Why does the Combo thrash the ECPL in the Senior Cup ?

Recommended Posts

The Senior Cup is not a fair reflection on the ECPL as most of the better teams aren't eligible.

Last year's top 10 was Torpoint Reserves, Sticker, Launceston Reserves, Bude, Plymouth Parkway Reserves, Tavistock Reserves, Elburton Reserves, Saltash Reserves, Morwenstow and Bere Alston.

Only 2 of these sides are allowed to play in the Senior Cup either because they are reserve teams, situated in Devon, or have been promoted to the Peninsular League so are no longer an ECPL club.

The 2 sides eligible are Bude and Morwenstow who were 4th and 9th respectively last season.

Therefore no evidence to suggest a widening gap between the leagues.

Sticker beat Falmouth in the evely cup final last season and Falmouth were the best team in the combo! not quite as cut and dried as you think!

Sorry about slow response, been working.!

Tinners played two Evely finals in the last decade: won one, lost one. Both East sides were full of ringers and nobody honestly gave a fig for the competition...in fact, a few yers ago, an alternative way of running iit was suggested, but it was typical of Cornish football that out of respect they could only change the format unless somebody died first.

So you're saying that all the best ECPL sides are now from Devon or are actually full of Peninsula players in all the games that matter, is that right ?

Lectures on the real world from a man in Truro ! tas that the one created in seven years by Kevin Heaney ? By the way, I live in Gloucestershire now....the St Just empire has stretched ! :yahoo:

There are some quality reserve sides in the ECPL and many of those players could easily play at a higher level.

Torpoint are a fine example of this and without question have been the best team in the last 5 years, good players and good managers. Former manager, Ricky Cardew won the South Western League with Bodmin and current manager Ian Stephens was a terrific player and is a top manager so there is a great pedigree within the ECPL.

These sort of people have only made the ECPL stronger.

Without the Devon teams the ECPL would be far worse off, what would Parkway, Elburton and the likes gain from playing in the P&D Premier. Nothing apart from a broken leg by some numpty.

Played in the P and D League for Uni. It's a woeful league and getting a broken leg is what I got by a numpty! So you're right...

Bude are on the up.
