Trevenson 1 Truro GWRSA 7 h/t 1-1

The weather was dreadful at Camborne School but both teams attempted to play football. With the strong wind and heavy rain at their backs in the first half,Trevenson only managed to score one goal which was never really going to be enough and so it turned out.

All the best to both teams for the rest of the season.

Troon 4-3 Shortlanesend

I'm sure woody will be on later with a decent match report

Troon after steam rolling the opposition in the first 3 games and classic quotes from player/manager Jody Marles such as "I want to re-live the glory years" were getting carried away and so this game proved. If there's so far been a question mark over this well assembled Troon side it's been how will they respond when things aren't going well? It's not good football and great goals that win you anything it's the character your side shows when the chips are down - and Troon came through this test against a dangerous Shortlandsend side with a victory they were made to fight every inch of the way for.

Troon played against the hurricane/wind in the first half and although they found it difficult to clear their lines the home side gained the first real chance of the game when Dan Oliver was put clear although for once the majestic strikers touch let him down and he over-ran the ball allowing Noonan in the Shortlandsend goal to come out and block the ball with his legs. On 20 minutes the inevitable happened although it was in some fortuitious circumstances when Brandon Light's corner found it's way directly into the net despite attempts from Ady Martin in the Troon goal and a hand of god attempt from Rob Kellow on the goaline.

Shortlandsend thundered numerous attempts at goal without severely testing Martin until an effort from distance from Gareth Bone took a wicked deflection off Woodman who had time and again put his body on the line blocking several efforts and the ball flew into the bottom corner leaving Martin stranded.

In the second half the reverse of the first half happened with hurricane Marles showing no signs of dieing down. Graham Cook's cross nestled into the side netting before than man Oliver ended off a fine passing move to make it 2-2 with still well over 30 minutes remaining. Shortlandsend though refused to lay down and when Ash "give away 10 freekicks a game" Wills conceded a free kick on the edge of the box they were given a lifeline. Light grabbed his second of the game as he fired the ball into the roof of the net past Ady "The Statue" Martin in the Troon goal.

Troon continued to dominate possession although heroic defending, good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept Shortlandsend in front with Wills sowing up the club miss of the season award when crashing an effort against the bar when unmarked from a free kick 6 inches from goal. With 4 minutes remaining Troon were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and you guessed it that man Oliver curled the effort into the far corner to bag his 7685th goal of the season. Troon now saw that the game was there to win and after great play by Cook on the right wing he smashed a hard and low cross into the box to which Noonan could only parry and Oliver yet again was on hand to bury the ball into the net to win the game. Shortlandsend protested in vain that Noonan who was injured following the collision with Oliver was fouled.

Soon after the final whistle went and Troon made it 4 wins out of 4. Shortlandsend are a talented side and played their part in this game - no doubt that they'll be challenging for honours at the end of the season as hopefully will Troon.
