Good standard in the south west?

Recommended Posts

Over the past few years, I've read various people coming on this forum slating the standard of football in Cornwall.

Looking at yesterday's result in the vase where 6 of the 8 clubs from the SWPL progressed against teams from various leagues who are also playing at step 7 and above, it doesn't look as though this is the case.

Although St.Austell needed extra time to progress yesterday, it could easily have been a hammering with Ashton and Backwell creating nothing and generally looking very poor. I honestly believe Ashton and Backwell (a team that are currently 4th in the equivalent Somerset Premier division) would finish bottom 3 in the SWPL.

Does this mean the standard in Cornwall isn't as bad as what people like to think it is?
