A non-league footballer has been sacked for posting offensive messages on Facebook.

Farnborough's Adam Bygrave was also fined two weeks' wages after admitting making numerous comments about race, disability and paedophiles.

The Conference South club called the defender's behaviour "unacceptable in any walk of life".

Bygrave came through the ranks at Reading, before playing for Gillingham, Weymouth, Histon and Hayes & Yeading.

In a statement, Farnborough FC chief executive Steve Duly said the 22-year-old had left the club with immediate effect.

He said: "The club have acted swiftly having only found out of the accusations late last week.

"Farnborough Football Club is committed to its community roots and it will not accept such behaviour or actions from any of its employees or supporters.

"We do believe though that this is a totally isolated incident."

'Repeating banter'

The player himself issued a statement saying he "deeply regretted" his actions.

He said: "As much as I totally accept that they are inappropriate and will offend many people, I believed I was just repeating banter and jokes from numerous sources.

"I accept the severe punishment handed out by the football club as I have left them with no option.

"I hope people will accept that I have made a mistake, and just because I have posted comments of this nature, it does not mean that I believe in them."

That bandwagon has taken me to Billericay and Weston-super-Mare already,

next week it conveys me to Basingstoke and Maidenhead, follow Truro City

and see the country, Essex, Somerset, Hampshire and Berkshire, we're on

the footplate for the whole journey.

The Senior Railcard is taking a hammering but so is my wallet.

People on Facebook and Twitter are unfortunate they are subjected to

idiotic comments similar to some of those posted on these forums.

WE HAVE BEEN TOLD - The HMRC money has been safely deposited with the Lawyers.

Problems? What problems - Hat, Wand, Rabbit, Head, Buried & Sand - Take your pick.

News to some people that should know Mountaineer!

Hello Dave, I read it somewhere as a FACT, it was 2/3 weeks ago after the club was sold on 7th June,

I think Mr Stephen Schaw Miller may have the answer to ALL our questions.

Since typing this posting I have continued my search to discover that many postings, threads and website avenues that were open to us have either been deleted or closed denying access.
