JJ Jones Duchy Football League from Michael Newcombe

AFC St.Austell sit proudly top of the Premier Division after a superb four nil win at Lamerton. Goals from Neil Ham, Luke Patton, Phil Hutchings and Alex Griffiths-Hughes gave them six points out of six and a plus twelve-goal difference.

St.Newlyn East are having a difficult start to the season after suffering a second consecutive defeat at Probus. The first half was evenly fought and goalless. Ross Vicary broke the deadlock for Probus in the 76th minute and Sam Bullen completed a two nil victory five minutes later.

Mevagissey scored a late goal to force a two all draw at St.Cleer. The visitors took a first half lead through Martin Davy, but St.Cleer equalised just after half time when Matt Bryant shot from distance over the keeper. The hosts then claimed the lead from the penalty spot. Alex Isted had a shot handled on the line and from the resulting spot kick James Colwill scored. St.Cleer with what is virtually last season’s Division Five championship side playing in the first team after a pre-season upset in management, held on until late in the game when in a fifty-fifty challenge, Mevagissey’s Sam Blount came out on top to equalise.

Saltash United opened their season with Tony Jane scoring four times in the 5-1 defeat of Torpoint Athletic. Lewis O’Rourke scored their other goal in a victory, which emphasizes that they will be amongst the challengers when honours are handed out at the seasons end.

Colin Wilson scored a brace as Polperro opened their Division One campaign with a 5-2 victory over Grampound. Andy Cordner, James Morris and Scott Sayer completed the home scoring with Lee Budge and Tim Peers replying for Grampound.

Foxhole picked up their first win in Division Two with a rain soaked 4-3 defeat of St.Breward. Sam Leaney scored a hat trick for the hosts with Calum Stuart claiming the other home goal. St.Breward replied through Dan Walsh, Karl Croft and Dan Mountain.

AFC Bodmin won their derby with Lostwithiel 3-2. The newly promoted team scored through Dan Haggett, Dan Hadley and Jonny Summerfield. Lostwithiel who scored a last minute winner last week hit back with goals from Bayley Phillips and Kevin Morcom, and already with only a few games played this division appears to be very closely fought and competitive.

St.Minver put in a dominating performance to thrash Calstock reserves 8-0 in Division Three. Jason Northcott scored five goals with Chris Simmons and Joe Robinson getting a goal apiece. There was an own goal as well by the visitor’s, but the most controversial moment came when Ben Beesley shot from distance right at the death, but with the ball in the air the whistle blew as it was entering the net, and the referee has confirmed that the goal was not allowed to stand.

Wadebridge Town are early leaders of Division Four with Aaron White giving them a second consecutive win by scoring the only goal at Gunnislake reserves.

Grampound reserves opened with a 3-1 win at St.Teath. This game was played in heavy rain throughout and there were a few tackles flying around on the slippery surface in a goalless first half. Grampound took the lead when a badly directed goal kick from the St.Teath keeper fell to Ryan Orchard and he returned the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The hosts equalised when their striker hit the bar, but Justin Burden reacted first to the rebound to score. Orchard was then brought down in the box, but saw the keeper save his spot kick. The ball went for a corner and from the kick the ball deflected between keeper and defender and rolled into the net for an own goal to restore the visitors lead. Orchard put the game out of reach when set free and hitting home a first time left foot shot.

Division Five newcomers Tregrehan Mills after their opening win last week, fell to earth with a bump after losing 5-0 at Southgate Seniors. Tom Wyman scored a hat trick for the hosts with a Dan Gregory penalty and an own goal completing the rout.

Lamerton 0 - Afc St Austell 4

The score line does not reflect the game as Lamerton at times were on top and had 8-9 good chances that couldnt convert.

Bad goals some due to the terential weather conditions and one really was down to bad reffareeing conceeded lamerton to a second defeat and when i say bad reffing i mean over ruling a linesman when the offside was obvious by 3 yards but ha... this is a debait that could go on and on all season and not everyone will agree so it is what it is.

Lamerton will take the posatives from the game and there was many and dust down and move on.

Bit dissapointed with comments that were heard down the pub, unnessasary but wont go into that.

There is no soar grapes before people comment and i aint opening a can of worms either game done and dusted.

hes had a few stiches but its improved his looks.

I said to the lads there was no need to be concerned about the result as that team shouldn't be playing at this level. We just tried to enjoy ourselves in the 2nd half and it was working until you got those 3 quick goals.

Posted

well i dont think you deserved the result and the attitude just reflects the attitude down the pub and on the side line...

Big yourself up all you like, what ever we lost the game big deal at leaste we dont belittle opponents.

And to say about the facilities mr big time sorry we dont have all the things you have at your club you sad little man

Posted

YAWN YAWN YAWN :yahoo:Awful conditions, awful facilities but lovely pies  overall we deserved our win over the 90!!!

HA Ha shocking post, only thing your right about was the lovely pies! Lammi had 2 cleared off the line and missed 2 open goals,

2-0 down with 15 left and more than matching st austell and then the ref goes and overules the linesman for 3-0 which knocked stuffing out of lammi.

As for the awful facilities you had nice hot showers and a changing room, what more do u want.

LOL and by the way its at Least!! Im not putting you down and to be honest your a good side just thought we deserved our win! i cant comment on what was said down the pub but i guess it wasnt to good lol,aww and by the way im not sad im :yahoo::D:drink: I was finished LITTLE bertie but hey that says it all if you miss 2 Open goals, say no more!!! As for the sheds! c'mon!!!

Posted

what is your problem??? sheds??? yeah so what? we have what we have because we cant afford to have big shot facillaties you need to grow up as your doing your team mates no favours as your making them out to be d---ks just like you. when you go through the puberty stage let us know big shot.

grow up and dont pick fault with people, teams etc.... if your that great y playing duchy and not the 1st???

Hello all at st minver.

I am the player with the cut, I have had 7 stitches and the muscle above my eye sewn back together. It was a nasty cut from a challenge that couldn't be helped! I'd like to say if I had continued that we may have come back into the game, but in all honesty I think it would have been more haha!!

First game as captain and now out for at least 3 weeks, great!!

Anyway from the short time I was playing I can safely say that the st minver side would be one of the better sides in the ECPL. Good luck to them in a season where I feel they will win the league at a canter.

Cheers

Sorry if you think it was a mistake on my part. I gave what I thought was right at the time and stand by this even now as I thought your left back was playing him on when I looked across the pitch. If I was wrong I can assure you it was a genuine error and can only apologise!! Thought it was a good game considering the conditions and if one of your chances had gone in during the first half it may have been a different outcome, best of luck for the rest of the season!

Afc Bodmin 3-2 lostwithiel

Scorers for bodmin - dan Hadley, dan Haggett and John summerfield.

Very disappointing result for Lostwithiel. An awful first 20 mins for the away side and 2 soft goals conceded. After this we seemed to click into gear and thoroughly deserved are goal in the first half and should have had more. Very dominant 2nd half but just couldn't finsih things off in the final 3rd. Great finish by the Bodmin player for their third and I think this was their only shot on goal in the second half?! A well worked 2nd goal by Lostwithiel and then pretty much camped in the Bodmin half after that but missed opportunities cost us and I also think the damage had been done in the first half. We deserved at the very least a point but felt we should have emerged as winners come the end but credit to Bodmin for hanging on and the keeper is solid! I hope the lad who cut his head open is ok. Gutting result but that's football!!Lostwithiel scorers:- Bayley Phillips and Kevin Morcom

It is slightly annoying that you come on here every week and after a nice day out st.austell never deserved to win or there were a team of ringers! Hard faught game today I thought first two goals may have had a bit of luck with them being your goalie but last two were nothing to do with luck! Are st.austell the most hated team in the duchy? I reckon so! Good game I thought today lamerton looked a very good side no 11 up front looked class very good touch. Pitch was in a good condition lovely showers and lovely pies after the game all in all a good day out for me! Apart from the rain :)

Big ern, travelled to your place plenty of times from Newquayish and always win or lose been made welcome, not all of us are lucky enough to be blessed with top facilities, keep your team going up there, switched to play for Newquay now so the power hour on the way home is over. Good luck for your season

Thanks for all the positive feed back from Calstock, Once again you took defeat well & were a great bunch at the club after, glad your skipper will be back soon. once again good luck for the rest of the season.

Gunnislake Reserves v Wadebridge Town.

Where do things stand when the referee blows his full time whistle with 9 minutes to go?

Should a match be replayed?

The reason given, which was a good reason, as the pitch was waterlogged. We had a massive down poor for ten minutes. Then the ref decided enough was enough and the conditions worsened and it was unplayable.

With Gunnislake being 1-0 down, we were on top of the match and looked like scoring. With Wadebridge’s 2 chances to Gunnislakes 10+

Did Colin Penhorwood (not sure of spelling) do right by giving Wadebridge the win?

Can I have someone’s suggestions please as its playing on my mind!

Pauller8 - why slag other teams facilities off?? Maybe you have a short memory?? As a few years ago st.austell had one of the worst facilities in the county with a stand noone was allowed to sit in a pitch with an awful slope and crap playing surface and a bar that wasn't allowed to open..!!!! Don't get me wrong you guys up there have turned it around an it was looking lovely when we played there last week but it did take a few years to get there and allot of money which most junior sides don't have! If you don't like junior facilities I suggest you play senior football for better facilities if your actually any good with your feet and not just your mouth..... Keep it going lamerton you might not have the best facilities but at least with you there we get to play a game on a saturday

Posted

Yeah your right about the club a few seasons ago but we still kept on winning the leagues :yahoo: didnt we!!! As for not being good enough go back a week the score line speaks for its self my friend

Posted

you played against one 1st teamer outfield i wouldnt say that he alone changed the scoreline as for the 1st teamer in goal....well we could of had anyone in there to be honest!! Now clear off

Thanks very much to all the Lamerton people yesterday for getting the game on, the pitch was in great condition given the horrendous weather conditions in the week leading up to the game.

Particular thanks also to the two old boys in the tea hut who provided tea and coffee to myself and all our supporters without being asked at all and they also orgainsed orange for half time, people like this, who turn up every week and give their time are fantastic.

Thanks also for the marvellous food put on back at the pub, the best we have had for many a year. I'm disappointed you feel we were disrespectful, i felt that we conducted ourselves well all afternoon, thanked you for the game, wished you luck for the rest of the season and ALL went back to your pub for a drink, something that many teams i know often dont bother to do.

We have come through every league since duchy 5 so believe me we have played at every ground with every type of facility imaginable, believe me, we are anything but "big time" we are a bunch of mates, having a laugh on a saturday. I apologies if a comment was taken out of context, we are not like that at all.

As for the game, we didnt play well and our keeper had a great game but 4 nil and hitting the bar twice and post is hardly a disaster.

once again, many thanks for yesterday and good luck for the season. id be grateful if no more was mentioned about this load of rubbish.

thanks.

You say you are 'not like that' but Pauller's comments about the opposition facilities are quite disrespectful. As a club you should remind players like him that he should conduct himself a bit better on a forum as it could affect the reputation of your team.

Posted

Pauller you crack me up mate! Sounds like St Austell will ruffle a few feathers this season.....but thats always gonna happen when other teams get well beaten by a good side. Duchy Prem title is between you Fowey & Saltash i reckon.

How's the knee feeling?

Posted

i can't understand why teams have to go on about bad changing rooms as long as you get a shower at the end of the game and the changing rooms are dry who cares, as some clubs just don't have the funds to be able to have nice new ones . as for st austell not so long ago when your team came down from the east cornwall you came to our pitch and had a a moan about our facilitys before the game which seem to spur us on which we ended up winning 20-0 but after the game we invited you back to the pub and showed you respect and back then your home facilitys weren't that great but we never complained or moaned just got on with it . i think that all duchy teams have highs and lows as players come and go so if your in duchy prem or duchy 5 you get a lot of different standards of changing rooms so just get on with what you came to do play football !!!

Posted

St Austell have a very good team who on current form seem to be striving towards that Duchy Premier title (early stages!), but I disagree that they "shouldn't be in that league". They played Polperro (East Cornwall) in pre season and were completely outplayed and out of there depth at that level. Perhaps Duchy Premier is where they should be?

Posted

Good thanks Pauller....glad to hear the knee is feeling good. Luckily mine seems to be holding up ok too! Always a difficult injury to return from mate but cruciate knee injuries seem to be so common nowadays!

Keep up the good work in Duchy Prem mate and keep up with the banter on here....well funny but so many people bite!!
