Traditional start. Typical goalless tedium at the selling club, boring, boring Arsenal, politely applauded by their know-nothing prawn sandwich brigade. Time to give Wenger his free bus pass to Montparnasse.

Bet Wilshere would be up and running again if a decent side came in for him, such as Chelsea.

United, Arsenal, same fishy stink of past glories maquerading as serious challengers.

Wilshere will follow Van Persie, Fabregas, Song, Walcott and every other flgeling talent out of the Emirates. Time for the fans to learn "I'm for ever blowing bubbles".

Wenger is the Greenwood of the decade. Nice chap, intellectual, cultured, but like me, looking forward to retirement now.

I would grudgingly admit you a small chance, but only if Chelsea and City are concentrating on Europe and decide that domestic success is comparatively hebdomadal and unimportant......"done that, got the T-shirt."

Most of your international fans are Chinese. Judging by Chinese footballing specialities, your women's team may be a bigger priority in future. Follow the money and all that. With Young diving around all over the place, Evra screeching and poor old Purple Nose approaching the age where gender discrimination becomes more of a challenge, your style of play has been naturally feminised anyway.

That lovely green and gold kit would look more fetching on the United girls and you know how it irritates the Glasers. Oo, Rio, put it on, you know you're worth it ! :yahoo:

Traditional nonsense. Typical satirical tedium from the old man, boring boring Isaac Rosenberg, politely engaged by his fellow posters.

Bitter? No. I have posted questions before to you when your opinions, that is what they are, have fallen wide of the mark. No reply. You are allowed to have opinons, and this is great place to post them and get them out there for debate. But the way in which you present your opinions, cleverely worded of course, but usually very negative and partly derogative, sometimes deserve a reply when things don't go according to your "gospel". The replies are not forthcoming. Hoi Polloi are perhaps not as stupid as you think we are!

Isaac Rosenberg

He does waffle, he is a bit pompous and sometimes I completely disagree with his point of view.

However, other times he is absolutely spot on and highly entertaining.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you for both those responses.I completely agree with Ponsonby's perceptive and balanced critique. I can be a prolix scattergun and sometimes, particularly when busy or tired, get things wrong.

I'd like to think I am part of the Hoi Polloi,Mangle, so I'm sorry if you found my attitude to my fellow football enthusiasts condescending: this is unintentional. I'm sorry too if you have asked me questions to which I discourteously failed to answer. If you repeat them, I will do my best. Having been banned from the website without explanation for about two years because, I presume, the administrators did not like what I was writing, I was surprised to find that I was again able to post a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad that we share a belief in the right to express opinions, unlike some of the crypto-fascist individuals within the game we love.

My occasional visits gave me the impression the site was less lively than it used to be. What you regard as derogatory at least provides stimulus.

I don't have the certainty of a gospel. Comforting as that might be, I won't attribute such portentous cohernce to my utterances. However, I believe that football has the capacity to channel all kinds of dangerous forces acceptably. It is simultaneously both important and trivial: thus the paradoxical tone of some of my writing.

After football, my second love is theatre, another medium for the controlled presentation of conflict. Bear that in mind when decoding the role of North london football,England, magpies or Purple Nose in my writing. They are only symbolic enemies.
