Cloughie Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 How are Veryan not playing their 1st league game until September 15th, one week after the cricket season finishes. I thought everyone had to start their league programme by September the 1st. Anyone able to answer this please.
newlyneastno.10 Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 suppose they just asked for it and the league granted them permission.., you dont ask you dont get :ninja:
Cloughie Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 If what you say is true, and I state IF, I think that is totally unfair. I'm sure many of us will be starting the season with lads committed to cricket, and missing the start of the season.
Cornish67 Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 we at trelander start on the 15 of sept do to cricket in truro

Did you ask to start later..?? i dont know the full facts as im not associated with them at all, just assuming thats what they did
Kash Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 I think youll find that for health and safety reasons you cant have cricket and football right next to each other, happens alot on council owned pitches! I may be wrong! I do recall missing first and last few games of football season due to playing cricket, maybe their whole team are cricketers?
Magic Mike Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 the pitch actually takes up part of the outfield of the cricket pitch @ veryan
Cloughie Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 No, because it stated that everyone must have played at least one league game after sept 1st, Liam . I know you can put no fixture on the form. I just feel Veryan, are trying to gain a advantage, If Gary wheildon and some lads play cricket that's unfortunate but it's the same for us all.
Cloughie Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 At St Columb,( years gone by) we played our first four games away until the cricket was complete.
countyman Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Sorry guys but this is absolute rubbish and the Duchy League should look into it. Every Club knows it has to play a fixture by the 1st September. If Veryan have a cricket pitch bordering then they simply have to request "Away" only on the fixtures form that every Club has to send in. They can play midweek local matches on a Tues or Weds evening, or away fixtures until the cricket is finished. Many Clubs face this situation - at Newlyn we simply requested away only or midweeks until the cricket season is finished. I am no longer involved in the Club, so my comments are strictly my own - however it strikes me that this needs to be addressed by at leat one Club Secretary out there. Mr Whieldon and his cricket-loving players must accept what every other Club has had to deal with for many many years. This will give Veryan a distinct and totally unfair advantage over every other Club out there. PLEASE tell me that someone has contacted the League about this??????????????? Or are you all just happy to see a new Club continue to take the p£$% out of the rest of the Clubs out there??
Cloughie Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 If I have got my facts correct, I will look into why. if Veryan and my club are neck and neck at the end of this season. It will be interesting to see our run in of fixtures compared to theirs.
Dave Deacon Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 This will give Veryan a distinct and totally unfair advantage over every other Club out there. I'm assuming they will gain an advantage by having the cricketers available come September, but will there be that many players doing both? Isn't this claim of an advantage a little over the top or am I missing something else?
wally6 Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Surely teams with games under their belt will have the advantage over a team who starts the season later? Players will have pitch time with eachother and be match fitter.
Cloughie Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 It's no good having games under your belt if you have lost them because you were under strength, because players are tied up with cricket. Veryan can play friendlies in mid week.
Dave Deacon Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 ...because players are tied up with cricket. How many does your club Cloughie have playing both cricket and football on a Saturday?
Cloughie Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 Three, two for Newquay and one at Roche. If Veryan have more than three, I understand their position. But the duchy league should state that you can delay your season until the 15th to all clubs. But not everyone to play their first game by september 1st. That's my view.
8 quid Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Don't think St.Stephen duchy side start till second week of September but don't think it's through choice.
copey Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Don't you think this is all way over the top? How would they be gaining an advantage from not playin? surely its a disadvantage?? Being not match fit!!and considering there a brand new team im sure there all raring to go!!! An i think veryan have alot of cricket players in there team but im sure gary isnt trying to gain an advantage about wen there first game is fixtured for!maybe this is just how its panned out!!
bolt Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Some miserable people out there !! gd luck to veryan on there return to duchy five
Pidgeon Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 How is it a disadvantage? Best players not available for the first few weeks of season because they are playing cricket. By not playing until they can play, It's an unfair advantage. Especially as other teams have to deal with key players missing as they are unavailable. I hope it rains a little for those weeks so those players don't do either.
cornishteddyboy Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 Why can't the fixtures be sorted out as in the Combo. With Ludgvan, St Day and Holmans having adjoining cricket pitches the fixture secretary gives then several away games at the start and end of the season, meaning they play the same number of games as the rest of the teams. They catch up on their home games during the winter months.
countyman Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 This is the whole point CTB - every other Club has to deal with being short of players at this time of the season - they still have to fulfill their League committment by playing at least one fixture by the 1st Sept. Morning local derbies, evening midweek fixtures, AWAY matches - all of these are used by Clubs to meet this committment. Apart, it seems, for Veryan. And no, Mr Deacon, there is "nothing more" to this, just a point being made that every Club should be on a "level playing field". And it is a distinct advantage for any Club to postpone a match from a date where they would be short some of their best players, to one where they are all available.
stokefan1 Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 we at camborne park dont have our first league game till the 5th of september
copey Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Still don't understand why countyman you are still going on about this!its duchy 5 football. Veryan as a club havnt been fixtured in for a game until that date not there doing! It just seems like some teams are moaning for nothing!! Get over it!! Everyone will all end up playing there fixtures doesnt make any difference when they are played!!!

Everyone will all end up playing there fixtures doesnt make any difference when they are played!!! to be fair to countyman he didnt start this post and he is only stating what everyone else is thinking.., but at the end of the day i do agree with you.., theres no point moaning about now,
kernowred Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 It all boils down to the fact that the 2 sports should never overlap anyway!!!!! why this is, is beyond me!! Im totally cool with veryan starting later, gives my team more match time, plus at Newlyn in the autumn and winter months it blows a hooly, not a good place to come in muddy, windy conditions!! bring it on Gaz, look forward to playing u guys, with a couple of old newlyn players in there..... Win or lose we will share a beer or two... Good Luck lads
kernowred Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 oh yeh, one other thing!!! i hope the ex newlyn east players have fulfilled their financial obligations to the club...otherwise they wont be able to play!!! better check
copey Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Glad someone agrees wiv me! An ur rite cricket an football shudnt cross over!!! all the teams will enjoy the facilities and playin surface at veryan an the moanin will all be forgotten!!probably the best set up in the duchy league!!!
LukeWoz Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Best set up in duchy? Me and you usually agree with each other liam lol. You don't get much better than st columbs and st austells set up in the duchy league but to be fair to veryan st columb and st austell are towns and st columb are an east Cornwall league club really and st Austell are one of biggest clubs and Places in Cornwall and veryan is only a small village. I look forward to playing veryan, I remember playing there 10yrs ago for st columb res when I was 15 and I remember it being a good set up there
copey Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 An i ment as in facilities an pitch!!!!as for a small village! Cant compete wiv the likes of st austell as they have swp standards!lol
