When is the ball in play?

After watching a kids football tournament over the weekend, i wondered if anyone could tell me when the ball is in play after a goal as been scored?

a, When the defending team passers to another player

b, When the referee blows his whistle

c, When the defending team makes the pass and the ball travels 360 deg

Law 8 - The Start & Re-start of play

• after a team scores a goal, the kick-off is taken by the other team.

• all players must be in their own half of the fi eld of play

• the opponents of the team taking the kick-off are at least 9.15 m (10 yds)from the ball until it is in play

• the ball must be stationary on the centre mark

• the referee gives a signal

• the ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward

• the kicker must not touch the ball again until it has touched another player

From a goal kick I think I am right in saying that it is in play when it goes outside of the penalty area.

Law 16 - The Goal Kick

The ball is kicked from any point within the goal area by a player of the

defending team.

• Opponents remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play

• The kicker must not play the ball again until it has touched another player

• The ball is in play when it is kicked directly out of the penalty area
