Div 5

Frogpool 1-5 Hayle

Hayle deserved the win but we battle well. Matt Waddell scored froggers only goal after a free kick from ten yards into his own half bounced through everyone and into the net.

Well done to Hayle.

More importantly congratulations to West Cornwall, Divison 5 Trelawney winners!

Dunn Cup Final

Goonhavern 1 St.Buryan 0

League and Cup double for Goonhavern

A game where both sides worked hard but the quality, for some reason, wasn't quite there last night.

Ian Gosling hit the bar direct from kick off but it was St Buryan who started the far stronger side; the left winger in particular was causing us problems and missed a good chance after about 15 minutes. Tony Chapman pulled off a good save after this (could've been before) as St Buryan continued to dominate. We started to buck our ideas up as the half wore on. Gosling hit the bar again and Luke Brown also hit the bar direct from a corner. Joe Carlyon also missed a great chance heading wide from a another Brown corner. 0-0 half time.

Second half was more of an even affair. St Buryan didn't create the chances they had in the first half although they got into some dangerous positions on a few occasions. Marc Wilson missed a couple of good chances after coming off the bench and St Buryan's 'keeper pulled off a great save from a Gosling free kick.

The deadlock was eventually broken with about 5 minutes to go when Gosling directed Ben Goldring's attempt into the back of the net.

St Buryan will probably feel hard done by; they matched us all over the pitch and in truth I thought the game was destined for extra time. Either side could have won it but thankfully we managed to grind it out, something which we have done well in our last few fixtures of this season. Last night's result also means that we won the Dunn Cup without conceding a goal which is particularly impressive having regard to the teams we beat to get to the final.

The game was well reffed and the pitch was in great condition despite the recent downpours - well done to Illogan.

Can't disagree too much with what has been said. I thought we, Buryan, really took the game to the league Champions. First half we created a few good chances and should have worked their keeper more. Gossy hit the bar first half once straight from kick off and another where he had no right to. Our centre backs did a fine job in keeping him quiet and all Goonhavern's good play went through him. Their number 10, Luke something, played in a deeper role and had less influence than when we played them in the league. Joe their skips put in a decent performance, but was somewhat lucky to stay on the pitch after a fair few wreck less challenges, although the same could be said of our left winger - who was a constant threat all game.

Second half was pretty even, shared possession but neither side creating any prop chances. Buryan had a penalty shout for handball turned down. From where I was at left back the players arms were up but I didn't see the contact so wasn't in any real position to make judgement, although my team mates and those on the side seemed pretty convinced.

Deadlock was broken 3mins from time according to the Lino. Gossy just dropped off his man and diverted a weak shot by falling backwards (attempt of a bicycle kick) that bobbled in off his shin.

Credit to Goonhavern who played well in spells, but really thought we stopped them from playing and we feel aggrieved not to have won the game.

Several of their boys said they didn't deserve it, which was a nice compliment, but we would rather have the winners medals. Best of luck to Goonhavern in the combo next season, and congrats on your league and cup double.

Pitch in superb condition and thanks to Illogan for hosting well.

Really well reffed by Mike Carter and his officials, really good seeing someone ref with a smile on their face and seeming to enjoy the game.
