Woking 3 - Truro City 3

Recommended Posts

Woking (Cowan-Hall 22 & 53, Sole 31) 3, Truro City (Watkins 36, Pugh 58, Afful 85)

City did themselves proud against the Division's champions.

Woking looked as if they were going to get their celebrations starting earlier than planned when they went 2-0 up, but a goal from Andy Watkins before the break kept City in touch.

The champions opened up a two goal lead again soon after the break, but before the hour Arran Pugh headed home and City were back in the game which was confirmed in the 85th minute when Les Afful touched home after good work by substitute Barry Hayles.

It finished 3-3 with all the crowd of 4.048 happy as Woking got out the silverware, and Truro left Kingfield Stadium with their heads high held.

Nice looking ground

Weird how the new big stand is behind a goal and all the others are standing terraces?

Was it built there due to space restrictions??

Impressive none the less.

Cat.

Looking out of the new stand the whole length of the pitch to the right has an uncovered terrace that is only about 20 feet in depth, over the fence there are warehouse/factory units, the far end behind the goal is about 30 feet in depth and a covered standing area, to the left looking out of the new stand the first third of that side is small in depth and open, the next third houses the original stand and the remainder is covered terrace similar to behind the far goal. When you say wierd it is when you have a mixture of 1950's structures making modern facilities look out of place.

Westfield FC who play in the Cherry Red Records, Combined Counties League Division One (Level Six) played host to us before the game, a nice set up, their pitch was lovely and flat, it looked a treat but I was told they have a flint problem due to it needing time to settle, like many places we visit it is a council backed complex covering many community functions, I noticed rooms for scouts and guides, a boxing club etc. nearby the local sports centre, in Cornwall many question the cost to the ratepayer when council/sports clubs attempt to join forces but this is happening all over the country and joe public benefits.

Westfield FC are in the same league as Guernsey FC who have the backing of the Guernsey Government, awaydays are fun, the away teams go all expenses paid, they start off at Southampton Airport are flown into Guernsey Airport where transport is laid on to transfer them to their hotel, should they wish to make a weekend of it they can have an extra night for £25.00, the guy at Westfield said it was a fantastic experience. Matt LeTissier is connected with Guernsey FC and they have the same ambitions as Truro City, with Guernsey government backing can they fail?

At times yesterday our small band out sang the Woking 4000 the best song being "You only came to see TRURO" but they had no answer to twenty odd minutes of "Lee Hodges White and Gold Army" we were all hoarse after that.
