phoenix Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Phoenix Bounce Back Camelford 0 LC Phoenix 4 After last week’s disappointing draw with Pelynt, Launceston College Phoenix ensured their title hopes got back on track with a four goal victory on a heavy pitch against hard working Camelford. The first thirty minutes where fairly even with both sides creating few real chances. This was more a gritty game, with hard tackling in the middle of the park stifling any real flow and movement. Phoenix, however, found a gap late in the first half for Harry Marsh to make a powerful run, latch onto a through ball and drive the ball home. Camelford temporarily lost their organisation and soon Phoenix were through again; this time Dave Sharpe slotted home coolly, allowing the alumni team a comfortable, though arguably undeserved, two goal lead at half time. The second half saw even possession for both sides, but now Phoenix did the basic things affectively. Solid at the back, with superb performances from Kev O’Donovan, Adam Daw, Jake Collings and Adam Chapman, Phoenix seemed unlikely to crack. This bore out when Phoenix claimed a third after Jon Bye found space and drilled the ball into the bottom corner, leaving Camelford no other option but to play all-out attack. The solid presence of Nathan Cox, Dan Castle and substitutes Dan Braunton and Leon Fowler in midfield, where Phoenix were so much more assured in the second half, blunted Camelford’s cutting edge, though a superb save low to his left from goalkeeper Eliot Astles reminded the alumni team that Camelford were capable of hurting them. The game was later settled when man- of –the- match Jon Bye connected with a Matt Brookes cross to claim his deserved brace and ensure Phoenix claimed all three points. The title race for Duchy 4 is heating up. The White Hart Hotel man-of-the-match: Jon Bye
OneBlueVoice Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Very fair and honest report phoenix, and have to agree in the main. Two strikes in quick succession really hurt us so close to halftime and definitely altered our mindset for the second phase. It was good to see both sides give it their all and play with the determination That it takes to succeed, even if it lead to a few spats, but thats always going to be the case when teams are close in the table.you LC definitely have one or two outstanding players and are definite title contenders, as long as they let their football do the talking.
MEX Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Was the Callington v Gunnislake game played on the 3G? if it wasnt, and it was played on that terrible bottom pitch (has been approved ECPL STANDARD)!! than why did the top pitch get called off? If the bottom pitch was used and the top pitch was unplayable, than I would be asking a few questions!! Callington pulling a fast one? 2nd team struggling fielding a side, 3rd team not going that well, but both teams get a result without the first team playing!
Richard Rundle Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 Junior Cup Eastern SF Saltash United 3rds 5-0 St Dominick reserves Just a day when nothing went right for St Dominick. An early goal from a break started the rout, and the visitors lost a centre back shortly afterwards to injury, with two more goals coming inside the first half. A second injury (this one looked and sounded more serious, ankle I believe) early in the second half and two late goals completed the afternoon. Not a single shot on target and only forcing two corners tells most of the story, it was surprising just how much the gulf between the two teams showed. Credit to the St Dom keeper who made a couple of really good saves, and the centre back they brought on as the first sub - after a first few minutes of looking like he had never played the position before in his life, from then on he was immense and the scoreline would have been even more decisive without him.

Not sure which pitch the game was played on MEX but i know that callington 2nd team only had 1 first team player who has played for the 2nd team every time the first team has been off so dont think that makes much of a differance really!
MEX Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 Thanks for the reply Tom, do you know where the new signings have come from for the ECPL side? Just thought it would have been a struggle to get two teams out with the recent departures. Still cant see how the top pitch was unplayable, and the bottom pitch was ok. I suppose you would have to do an early inspection due to Newquays travelling.
tomhall Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 Im not sure why the top pitch was called off and the bottom pitch was playable. Not being involved with callington I wouldn't know who the knew signings are but I do know that Ben Langton played for them yesterday n scored 3 so I guess he is 1 of the new signings!!
tomhall Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 According to the report in the indy he played and scored 3 for the 2nd team Mex
