Darin Morse Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Mousehole 2 Foxhole 3 Saturday 4th February 2012 Foxhole made extremely hard work of overcoming a depleted Mousehole outfit on the Trungle Parc mudbath, two excellent late goals which contrasted starkly with their general play ultimately proving decisive. Despite quickly moving on to the offensive the Foxes were unable to notch the first goal which may well have opened the floodgates. Instead, Gotthardt saw a seventh-minute near post snap shot pushed wide by Angove and from the resulting dangerous corner, one of many from debutant Mewton which were not effectively attacked, Griffin's effort was deflected past the upright. Mewton ought to have found the net within moments but took an age to pull the trigger allowing Elstone to block, while Morrison's header from Griffin right wing centre lacked conviction. Mousehole had not been in it but nevertheless almost capitalised on Ryan Holland's poor throw when Nowell fed Waters who fired over. The visitors did not heed the warning and fell behind on twenty minutes when the out of sorts Stephen failed to deal with a routine high ball, allowing Waters to race clear and finish with composure. The lead only lasted seven minutes as another Mewton inswinging corner was bundled home by Adam Holland to signal a period when the Foxes could easily have sealed the points but attempts from both Gotthardt and Spaul sailed harmlessly wide while Griffin was denied first by the legs of Angove and then by a frantic clearance off the line by Elstone. After the break there was no abatement either in the heavy drizzle or the amount of possession enjoyed but with home centre-halves Trevail and Tonkin resolute there was a gradually diminishing number of clear-cut opportunities for Angove to worry about. Griffin's off day was summed up when he blazed hopelessly too high from twelve yards after outrunning a posse of defenders before shooting wide at the near post when firing across the keeper was clearly the better option. Skippers Holland and Tonkin traded cautions (for a foul on Waters and dissent respectively) and efforts from distance by Faircloth, Trudgian and Spaul all missed the target before Spaul's blockbuster from twenty-five yards finally found the net with eleven minutes remaining. Hopes of killing the game either by seeing out time or scoring another were dashed within two minutes when Bullock found himself totally unmarked to equalise from fifteen yards. However substitute Ross Turton was to save the day ninety seconds later with an exquisite lob following a fine turn to beat Elstone, but even then the victory was not assured as the spirited home team pressed forward during interminable stoppage time, the sound of the final whistle being met by audible sighs of relief. Foxhole (4-4-2): Ryan Holland; Joe Stone, Richard Faircloth (sub. Pete May), Adam Holland, Ryan Stephen; Connor Mewton, Jaydon Gotthardt, Oliver Morrison (sub. Ross Turton), Ben Spaul; Richard Griffin, Adam Trudgian. Mousehole (4-5-1): Oliver Angove; Luke Nowell, Will Elstone, James Tonkin, Mark Trevail; Oliver Pridham, Jamie Robinson, Tom Hooper (sub.
