Topcat Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 The biggest problem within girls football is the cut off point from playing amongst boys, I have a daughter who enjoyed her football up to the age of not being allowed to play within a boys team, unfortunately this coincides with their move from junior school to senior and alot of changes happen. They meet new friends from different schools, get introduced to many new sports, and the football is rarely continued as they split between various other sports. I tried a few seasons ago to ask whether the girls should be allowed to continue playing in boys teams for another season, this would then bring girls from different teams together when they reach senior school, and therefore create a better possibility for their football to continue in female teams. Flattly refused!!!!!!!!
Richard Chown Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Topcat, I believe that is the policy laid down by the English FA not Cornwall County FA.
Tommy Matthews Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Girls are now allowed to played in boys teams up to school year 8 and we have girls now playing in our "boys" teams here at Tretherras as the FA (not the CCFA) has relaxed its rules on female players.
Topcat Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Thats great news Tommy little late for my daughter i,m afraid, but at least it should help to keep young girls playing football.
Tommy Matthews Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Sorry to hear that Topcat, if she's still interested then get in touch with Warren Parker at the CCFA who's the Womens' and Girls' Development Officer who can put you in touch with female teams in Cornwall that might help. We had one of our Year 7 girls playing at Richard Lander School for the boys this afternoon and she was brilliant!
Sam Boston Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 I see many female players who would easily give the boys a run for their money and have, in the past, played with a few that have left me with enough bruises to confirm they are more than capable of holding their own! Tommy, if we can now have mixed teams until U13s does that mean girls no longer play 7-a-side until U14s? I always found it rather insulting to the girls' ability that the boys could play 11-a-side at U12s and they couldn't!
Martin Eddy Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 sam in my opinion the girls are being treated better by not playing 11-a-side.this gives them more time to develope not only as players but growth wise.i have always felt that we throw our children into full size football far to early.it is a very big pitch to cover, and it comes down to who can run the fastest and kick the ball the hardest.this takes away the skill factor from their game and also makes the result far more important than their development as players
Sam Boston Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 I completely agree with you Pat, I'm a great believer in 9 -v- 9 as an intermediate level.
