Blues10 Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Helston 2-1 Godolphin Not the best conditions to play in, but saying that it was the same for both teams! Both Helston and Godolphin played excellent football considering the pitch tearing up early on! Helston scorers were mark goldsworthy and Liam eddy, think it was the young left winger for Godolphin that scored direct from a cross!
Dave Deacon Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Yes considering the conditions, game was a good one. Thankfully the ref Kevin Knowles, only had to show one yellow, i think, and that was right at the end of the match when the visitors keeper said something out of place. I felt if anything Godolphin should have pushed on more to have tried for an equaliser, especially as Helston were enforced to change their goally at the interval. However manager Derek Martyn felt after the game they did as much as they could. He was full of praise for the opposition, the best he's played against other than the current leaders.
Blues10 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 I thought kev reffed brilliantly today, in those conditions there were a few miss timed tackles! Godolphin are a cracking bunch, all the best for the rest of the season :)
derek martyn Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 A great game considering the conditions. Helston are a very good side with 2 damn good strikers. Top set of lads + management team, the chilli n chips wasn't bad either. Good luck to all at Helston FC for the rest of the season.
The Python Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 This is the sort of game you don't mind paying £3 to watch, two good footballing sides. Helston for the first time in a long time played with a back four rather than thier normal back three for me it worked well and they looked a stronger unit at the back, I think the team struggled a little in the middle if mid-field with only the two of them in there, in my opinion they could do with a stopper someone who is going to stop the Opposition playing through the middle however the two lads out on the flanks worked hard, Charlie Young I thought for a young lad this was a great experience he never stops running and always wants the ball he never shirks a tackle (my man of the match),and as Derek said above the two lads up front are really playing well. With rumours of Hugh Howlett signing from Penryn things are looking good for Sid.Also heard their is some unrest on the bench with players not getting enough playing time, Unfortunately that is always going to be the case when a team is doing so well and it would be a shame to see any players leaving.
Blues10 Posted February 6, 2012 Author Report Posted February 6, 2012 Hugh howlett is officially a Helston player.. Brilliant signing!
Soccer Follower Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Certainly strengthens the bench for Helston.
Josh_Dron Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 As much as I dislike Helston, and for no apparent reason, they have done extremely well and really taken to the league. They have just the right blend of youth and experience. What is really impressive though is the fact that they are all, or at least the majority of, are from in and around Helston. Obviously want to play for the club, for each other and for Sid, who has done a fantastic job since taking over. Hugh is only going to make the squad more impressive. Will be interesting to see how many players stick about though as their squad increases and players will get restless - its hard to rotate a side getting results. The club need to get their reserves up to Combo football ASAP though, again Le Boss is doing a fantastic job and has a very strong squad there. But they will want to keep players at the club and players not in their SWPL side will need to be ready to make the step up, or down maybe, if needed and at the moment that will be hard to do effectively. They are a club going in the right direction. As for Youngy, played with him at the Dron and managed him at Under 18s. Player with a top attitude and never stops running, always gives it his all and although not technically the best around he is probably one of the most effective.
CharlesYoung Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Very good game to play in. Think all the Helston boys enjoy playing against the top sides and Godolphin are one of those teams. Good to see Goldy and Liam notching again, not that its a rare thing to see.
