THE BALD ONE Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Does anyone else feel its time to move the football season dates. Why not play during the summer months ? We do not have to worry about excessive heat anymore . This start stop season is becoming very frustrating.
Ian Pethick Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Can't see you exhanging pasties and cider for Pimms and cucumber sandwiches somehow . You could get your wish though , at this rate we might not finish until approaching June anyway .

At this time of year even at Professional level games get called off.
hoppit Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Good idea but don't suppose the boys that play cricket and football would agree, would probably choose cricket which would make the SWPL even more sub-standard.
THE BALD ONE Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 Play the cricket on the Sunday ? How many Indian summers do we have ? How long do they last ?
hedgerow Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Its bad enough trying to get players at the start of the season for games as they are away on holiday. Stick to as it is, lovely windy saturday afternoons, not many evening games under floodlights, don,t appeal to me. Nex thing you will want to play in flip flops :clapper:
THE BALD ONE Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 Typical poor reply from a scouse fan .................. lol. Afraid of change buddy eh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Train Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Hedgerow has a point. The world unfortunately doesn't revolve around football. In the summer sun you want to be going on holidays and going beach, aswell as other commitments. You wouldn't be able to get a squad 2geva let alone a team
St Darren Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 and the injuries!!! the grounds are rock hard in the summer
THE BALD ONE Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 Starting the season a bit earlier , more evening games , finishing the season later !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reducing the size of the leagues !!!!!!!!!!!!! Not having so many cup competitions ?????????? Just a thought. But hey ,we could always keep it as it is and not play for weeks on end.
DanBlazey Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 No. No. No. never. Completely unworkable for far too many reasons to list here. I watched Duchy League this afternoon and I don't know what I'd do without my winter football fix.

More midweek games scheduled in the first half of the season. There were virtually no midweek games scheduled for December and January and the weather was fine for it. In comparison to the last two seasons, the weather has been much kinder and as a result much fewer games have been called off. I'm not expected a large pile-up of fixtures at the end of this season.
THE BALD ONE Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 Dan, we have 6 games to play more than you , so you may not have a problem - but we will .
hedgerow Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Have to say agree with Danny Boy. Why do Clubs have floodlights, for show ? If midweek dates are available, let use them. Get aas many games played before the winter sets in, if possible, less games to worry about towards the end of the season. It is also a good money spinner for Clubs. Certainly not afraid of change, all for it. If it benefits everyone involved in the game. Look forward to watching many evening games between now and the end of the season.
Magic Mike Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Shared facilities between cricket and football means a lot of places would struggle with summer football.
THE BALD ONE Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 I also agree with the evening game scenario . To be honest I much prefer Friday evening games.
mad ferret Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 No thanks, summer is for the beach and rugby league....... Winters would be rubbish without football.
Ian Pethick Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Was there not a lot of initial opposition when Rugby League moved to the summer months ? I am not in favour personally of moving to the summer . I do though think that things like more midweek fixtures in the early months of the season , moving all cups involving senior leagues to midweek only and even a break of few weeks in January to allow pitches to recover are all things to consider .
