Mr motivator Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Which game will you never forget about, i have many but I suppose mine would be in the supplementary cup final, we beat Falmouth town at helston
GwinearNo.10 Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 As a teenager a couple of lads I knew started up a team St Erth and talked myself and a mate into playing for them . Our home games were on a cow field down Long Lanes with pig sheds for changing rooms . We had played 15 games lost 15 games shipping 90 odd goals along the way when we arrived at top of the table unbeaten St Day , we won 3-2 much to the amazement of all. Our efforts didn't go unnoticed and we were the lowest ranked team ever to be awarded team of the week in the Sunday Independent , happy days :clapper:

bluenose Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Bouff I remember you convincing me that I should play for St Erth....!!!! Our first game we lost 21-1...!!! I was a little worried when our keeper wore gardening gloves in goal....!!!! Second game we lost 17-1 and I never played again....the humiliation was just too much to bear....!!!!
cornishman64 Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 4 me it was malabar lifting the junior cup at newquay (didnt play) but as a club player wot a day good support miss the old days lol
Harsh but FAIR Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Watching Fal ath lose in the j.cup final after the Ben andros saga they didn't deserve to get there let alone win it. Good times.
Wingers shins Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Winning the junior cup season b4 last was my greatest moment. The way we prepared and the way we fought through all the rounds(and there was some battles) made it for me. Oh... and the piss up after was epic!!
St Darren Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Beating Perranporth in about 2003/4 in Area Semi Final of Junior Cup! What an evening that was!
DARA Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Beating Perranporth in about 2003/4 in Area Semi Final of Junior Cup! What an evening that was! Should'nt that be beating Falmouth Town u14's,
St Darren Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Huh? I remember beating Falmouth U/12's I think, or might have been U/13's
le boss Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Most memorable for me as a player would be my first game of men's football at 13 years old against a Mawgan side that had a very experienced "legend" playing for them who told me he was going to snap me in half during the game - and this was while we were warming up!!!!! Needless to say i was sh*****g myself but as the game went on and tackles were made by and on me I realised it was only just intimidatory tactics and from that day on i never backed down to anyone on the field - some would say i went looking for it ha ha. I will not name the player out of respect for him but thank-you. As a manager there have been several but nothing gives me more pleasure than to see our team play for each other and upset a few odds. I have watched several of our players taking some heavy defeats a few seasons ago and am so pleased that their perseverance is paying off.
bushy Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Mine definantly was the Terry jennings cup final at Wendron a couple of years ago, we(penryn) were 3-0 down with 20 minutes to go, we came back and won 4-3 in normal time, ending trispens 24 match unbeaten run( I think)
GwinearNo.10 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Bouff I remember you convincing me that I should play for St Erth....!!!! Our first game we lost 21-1...!!! I was a little worried when our keeper wore gardening gloves in goal....!!!! Second game we lost 17-1 and I never played again....the humiliation was just too much to bear....!!!! Is that you Adam ? I take no responsibility for that ha ha , I can't remember how many times I played for them but most were memorable , Mark must of decided those gardening gloves were unlucky because he just used to roll his sleeves up and play bare handed. Were you there when Andy Whear and Billy Butler had been out in Penzance on the lash and talked the new bar owners of Hiccups to sponsor us some new shirts , the guy turned up at our next match with these flash new two tone blue shirts to replace our old kit but was also in return expecting to manage us . After 5 minutes of the game we all returned to our usual positions ignoring all his tactics and plan , got thumped by a rugby score , needless to say he never returned and we were back in the 1968 Man United shirts the following week , having the p1ss ripped out of us by cruel children watching the game !
Magic Mike Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 made my debut in duchy division 4 west( the lowest of the duchy leagues then) aged 14 for Veryan FC back in 1996 came off the bench to set up the winning goal with my first touch as we beat "FOURLORDS" from up SNOZZLE way by three goals to two, followed closely by another game agaisnt the same team the following season where i scored from the halfway line lobbing theair goalkeeper who resembled super mario in the process all with only 9 men at the time as one of our cars broke down on the way to the game and they didnt get there until 15 mins after kick off. these are just a couple of memories in a career that has seen me clock up quite a few games and pile on a few more pounds! if you really wanna hear some stories just ask my old pal RAPPO

RAPPO Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Yeh definately got a few stories Cat!!! Thanks for reminding me about that final Bushy!!! We didn't get out our own half last 20 minutes, know how those guys felt in the alamo now!! :(
RAPPO Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Thought of something now!! Question for Mike Odgers this one i think!! Don't know if you come on the Trelawny bit mate but one of the games i most rememberish was when Falmouth beat a star studded St.Blazey team in the South Western League Cup Final at Truro 1-0 maybe 91/92?? I remember scoring in about the 75th minute and we hung on for dear life!!! Remember it being the longest 15 minutes of my life mate!! We had the lad from Mullion in goal because Philpy was cup tied and he was brilliant!! Remember it being Trev's first cup final win at the 13th? attempt!! Apart from my goal after 7 minutes on my Exeter debut v Bournemouth that was my favourite goal ever i think, being a Truro boy at Treyew Road and a few hundred F Troop behind the goal, also Steve Nute in goal for them, what a keeper Mike!! Great days!! Any chance of the teams, Ref, etc Mike?? :clapper:

Great days!! Any chance of the teams, Ref, etc Mike?? Bloody hell Rappo - now we are going to get a story on every goal you ever scored i bet. I remember the first time we ever met - you were playing for Truro Minors U'18 in Helston - must have been 1983 or 84. You came onto the field with your 80's perm and your satin-look shorts pull so far up that even you were peeping out. You had bright white wrist bands on and i thought "what the hell have we got here!!" Cant remember the result - i think we won, but little did i know that it was my first taste of a real legend and a true gent. I must have kicked you cos you are not that special mate lol. x
RAPPO Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Thanks Mike! Knew you would have the details mate! Bash, i think i remember that game because we didn't lose very often and you beat us 4-2!! Think you had a beard even then at 16 mate and i was abit scared to start off with but you didn't kick me hard enough cos i scored both goals!! I only remember that cos i had a 25 yard free kick top corner which got a thumbs up from my dad which was like getting blood out a stone! He usually told me i played crap and he was usually right!! Good days bud, i miss those old shorts they are down past your knees now!! Heard you're doing a top job as a manager, never had a doubt Bash, keep up the good work mate x

Guest BenTheYeti Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Halsetown Res. vs Robartes about 5/6 years ago I think, although I didn't play.. they were unbeaten in the season previous, and came into the game against us unbeaten in that season too. We were 5-0 at half time, some of the best attacking football I've seen at this level (and not a ringer in sight too which was nice).. second half they threw everything at us, and literally threw it.. they used to have a guy playing for them who would aim huge throw-ins at the crossbar for a melee to ensue. They got it back to 5-3 then we went up the other end and scored another 3 in about 10 minutes with the game finishing 8-4. Jonny Webster was playing for them and I was running the line, gave their striker offside (and he was off by, 2-3 yards) and Jonny Web came steamrolling over to me, grabbed me by the throat and muttered something in Cornish about being a cheating $%&*%£!.. Luckily the ref saw him before he snapped my neck in half! We went back to the Halsetown Inn after the game and none of the lads would believe we'd won, let alone by that score. Most memorable game I've played in would be a cup semi final around the same time, at The Saltings against Storm who were 4/5 places above us in the league and pushing for promotion, but we'd just beat them a few weeks previous somehow, so felt up for it. We got battered for 90 minutes, think our keeper touched/kicked the ball more than any other player, especially with our captain coming off from centre half with a broken shin after 20 minutes. Somehow we won the game 3-1 or 2, and went on to win the final comfortably against Mousehole or Marazion I think
kj87 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 after all the saturday high tempo games it was a sunday game i member was playing for booters against a very strong west cornwall side near enough there 1st team and it was lashing it down n for some reason the ref let the game go ahead n we had a bare 7 hungover to hell players so we threw our old boy manager n his injured assiant up front and grabbed 2 kids that always came along to watch signed them up n chucked them on n said play ur hearts out... 90 mins later we drew 0-0 the fact that both teams took the tie seriously and we had no functional players and bein a sunday game made the draw that much better n defo a good excuse to stay out n get smashed:D
