Peter Hickey Cup Quarter Final - First Leg

Troon 5 (Retchford 3, Oliver, Phillips) Camborne Park 3

Troon gave themselves a 2 goal advantage in this entertaining encounter. Player/manager was without Joe Day for this clash as well as Greg Manley-Wells who is away on international duty representing Botswana in the African Nations Cup. A competitive encounter was evident from the outset with referee Mike Carter having to sort out an early dispute between Troon's Rob Goldsworthy and Park's Pete Norfolk over who's handbag was nicer, Rob's pink Prada number or Pete's designer silver gucci.

After 10 minutes Troon took the lead following a left-footed strike from Steve Retchford after Park had failed to clear Haydn Wise's free-kick from distance. Within 10 minutes Park will level after a neat right foot finish. Dan Oliver restored the lead on 30 minutes rounding the keeper after a superb breakaway. Not long before half time the Park keeper handled Sam Mayou's shot outside the area and Retchford curled home the freekick to make it 3-1.

Park pulled a goal back within a couple of minutes of the restart after the forward slotted home after latching onto a flick on. Troon then took control playing there best football of the game with Jason Phillips's delightful dink over the keeper restroring the 2 goal advantage before Retchford completed his hat-trick with a strike from the edge of the box. Mayou's free-kick from distance apparently just flew the past the post - in Stithians that is after the midfielder's wayward strike landed 6 miles away.

Park rallied late on and hit the bar with a strike from range before pulling a goal back with their forward side footing home from 2 yards out following a corner. The Mario Ballotelli of Troon Louis Goss was also given a 10 minute cameo after apparently stopping at Camborne Tesco Filling Station on the way and filling up everybody's cars then paying for all their fuel.

The tie certainly isn't over but Troon have a slight advantage before the second leg in a fortnight; referee Mike Carter had a superb game and a special mention must go to Troon rightback Tom Williams who played the full 90 minutes depsite having a bad ankle and not mentioning this on one occasion.
