Jobsafish Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I was absolutely devastated to hear of the death of Ron Curnow on New Year's Eve, completely sudden. I have known Ron and Kaye for years. Kaye was my cook at school and damn her meals were good and Ron was my first football manager as a 13-14 year old playing in a mens team at Cury. I remember him telling me he used to play football for Mawnan Smith as a young man, maybe someone remembers him playing? But I remember him for being my manager and a good friend at Cury and at that time we were up and down the Falmouth Helston Leagues like a yo-yo. We had good teams for a time and then not so good, but he was a good man and was always dedicated to the cause. Some of you may remember him when Gweek had a team in the Falmouth Helston league (going back a few years now) there were some ding dongs between the two teams. I also remember the Cury team he managed, I cannot remember what year it was, it may have been somewhere between 1987 and 1989, maybe even before. But I was a young lad that used to go and watch the football at Cury on a Saturday and anyway at that time Cury had a really strong side, players like Nigel Nicholls (great player with a great left foot and now referees and a good one at that), Colin Trerise (always cool under pressure as centre back and great in the air with his head), Malcolm and Raymond Fox (Ruan Boys), Phil and Gary North ( was like having Tony Adams and Martin Keown in the back four, hard old players), Dave Rose, Steve Crouch (deaf as a post but lethal up front), Richard Benny (big farmer lad played centre mid, solid as a rock). There were many more but far too many to mention, but the reason I write this is to try and get the message out there to anyone that knew Ron Curnow that his Funeral will be in Mullion on Monday 9th January starting 1430. If you knew Ron please come and pay your respects and lets give the boy a good old send off. God bless.

Stu Massey Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Deepest Sympathy goes out to Kaye and Family, for a tragic loss of one of the worlds nicest guys in Ron Curnow. I was proud and privileged to be associated with Ron during our sucessful years at Cury FC, and to this day i will never forget how proud as punch Ron was when he represented Cury at the pre match dinner prior to our Junior Cup Final appearence at the hotel in Penzance. His knowledge of local football was incredible, and him and i spent many a friday night on the phone discussing team selection for the following day. I am so sad that i cannot attend the funeral today, but Ron, you will be in my thoughts RIP. I believe that there were mutterings around benefit match in aid of Ron, and therefore to say more than happy in helping organise this , perhaps Cury old boys v current ? If you are up for it please give us a text or a buzz . s.massey89@btinternet.com 07530210491 Stu Massey
