In season 2008-09 in the Throgmorton Cup Wadebridge Town and Saltash United made 13 attempts to settle the Tie and I beleive 8 programmes had to be re edited.

The British record was set in the winter of 1962-63 when Airdrie and Stranraer settled a Scottish Cup match at the 34th.attempt

It was first fixtured for 12th.January and finally played on 9th.March 63

Its gettin a little bit tasty down at The Mill. 20 minutes in, fairly even game so far. Torpoint have had a couple of free kicks towards goal but nothing Dobwalls cant handle.

Posted

45 mins gone. Torpoint take the lead. Free kick come through from the back.. Goal scorer takes touch on right hand side of box turns and hits the ball under goalkeeper. Half time.

2-0 to Torpoint! Very dodgy free kick given by what can only be described as a very inconsistant referee on the right hand side of the box just outside, whipped in by a right footer to be headed back across the goal!! Referee unfortunately getting very poor.

Posted

Home side starting to run away with it now. Ball played down the left hand side, crossed it in to be met by an unmarked striker with a perfect header into the far side of the net.. 85 mins gone.

Dobwalls just had a goal dissallowed for offside. Ball played through flicked on to Josh Notman who slots the ball home under the Torpoint goalkeeper. Unfortunately for the well battling away team the flag was already up. Last couple now.

All over hear at the mill.. Fairly average game here today! Both teams found it hard to get there football going. Referee possible ruined the game a little bit with a few odd decisions! Great battling from the league one side but well done to Torpoint.

There were subs for the sides that I cannot remember from the teamsheets.

A very entertaining yet feisty afair in which it was half and half in terms of who the best team were.

From the first minute of the game Dobwalls began more positively with good play between the midfield which resulted in Eke playing a nice ball through Point defence to Harry Hook down the wing, but due to the speed of the pitch beat Hook to the touchline and out of play.

After 4 minutes Dobwalls got their first corner after good control and dribbling from the back from Phil Bromhead who played another sweet ball through the centre half and left back of Torpoint towards Harry Hook for the ball to go for a corner from the resulting throw in.

Torpoint created there first chance after 7 minutes when Mike Robert's hold up play brought in other Torpoint players. Roberts played in the Torpoint left back whose cross was well defended by Dobwalls who could only clear it behind for a corner which resulted in a clearance.

Dobwalls pressed again a minute later with the left back running himself into trouble trying to take on 2 players to lose possession midway into his own half. Andy Frost playing a ball down the right wing towards Harry Hook who won a corner for his team after good cover from Torpoints Centre backs.

The first free kick from the referee was awarded to Torpoint after 10 minutes 2 yards left of the penalty area after a nudge from a Dobwalls player which looked harsh but they are given if referees see enough contact off the ball. Luke Avis-Riordan delivered such a lovely ball which no-one from Torpoint could convert and Rhead for Dobwalls was able to clear. Minutes later another ball sent through to Hook from the Dobwalls defence was flagged off for offside.

2 minutes later Torpoint were awarded another free kick, again taken by Riordan for which no-one could connect with. Phil Bromhead again delivered a sweet 40 yard ball over the Torpoint defence for Hook who again was beaten by the pace of the ball and the speed of the pitch.

15 minutes and Dobwalls Rapson was adjudged to be offside which he wasn't but the Dobwalls supporters (the 1 that I saw) argued against the Linesman and even offered him his glasses.

Brian Stacey was the next Point player to have a chance at goal trickling through Dobwalls leading to Bromyard handling from the edge of his penality area and the free kick again not reaching a player and cleared.

Dobwalls were next to have a free kick from 25 yards from goal on the right side of the pitch taken by Matt Hawes. His kick hit the wall and when receiving the ball back and from his cross Fenwick cleared and the corner was cleared.

25 Minutes gone and Torpoint began pressing forward more playing balls down the wings a lot and making excellent crosses, Riordan again playing a ball which Mike Roberts stretched out for but could not get a foot on it. Had he done it would of been a goal.

Towards half time Hawes was booked by the referee for a late challenge before the game stopped for 3-4 minutes with an injury to Dobwalls Rhead.

As Blakey posted the first goal did come and from Torpoint. A free kick on the left side of the ground whipped in and controlled from inside the area from Riordan and Josh Grant turned and fired the ball past Beman. Very unlucky before the whistle going into your half time team talk.

After a good pint in the Torpoint clubhouse and watching part of Fulham United it was back out for the second half which had already been 5 minutes in.

With what I saw of the start of the game, Torpoint were certainly positive and enthusiastic to finish the game off with Dobwalls struggling to close down the forward play of Torpoint. Within 10 minutes of the restart the score was 2-0. Again Brian Stacey this time scoring with a quality header back across goal which beat Beman. A harsh free kick, no. The Dobwalls player had his hand on the Torpoints player shirt which the referee and linesman clearly saw and rightfully gave the kick which Torpoint scored from and Dobwalls only having themselves to blame. Eke was mouthing off at the referee after the goal had gone in and was rightly booked for his dissent towards the referee.

Brian Stacey should of had a hat trick by the time he was left clear on to beat the onrushing Beman who did well to stop Stacey from getting the match ball at the end of the game after yet another great pass from Riordan.

Rhead was another player to be booked for Dobwalls.

The 3rd and final goal was a from a well worked cross after 85 minutes A superb cross by Mike Roberts on the far side who was outstanding (for his age lol Mike) The cross was met by a diving header from Brian Stacey to complete the scoring a set up a tie with Truro City Reserves on 21st January 2.30pm kick off.

Dobwalls goalkeeper hardly had saves to make throughout the game and the only time he really had hold of the ball was taking it out of the back of the net. The same really for the Torpoint keeper. The game was very much end to end with good defensive displays which the Dobwalls officials and staff should be positive going into the rest of the West Division campain.

Bricktop I wouldnt say an easy win for Torpoint as they should on paper and their league status win this game 7-0/8-0 or at least take the lead before half time and the goals that were scored were from set pieces that may have been defended on another day. (Apologies I read this again and remembered Torpoint did take the lead before half time lol)

It was good to see all the supporters and some familiar faces from other football clubs as well and thank you to the staff and committee members of Torpoint who made supporters feel welcome as well as providing a great hospitality this evening.

Thought dobwalls played well considering their in a lower league gave point a run for their money In the first half but lost their legs in the second half which made it easy from there on in for us to score.gave to admit ref was dodgy but his discissions wouldn't have changed the results to much.

No your right the referee did get some stick from both sides for decisions he gave but decisions that other referees would also give and people should accept the way they see something different than supporters as supporters will always see things different, as I did. Had I been officiating the game it would of been different from how it was seen from a spectators view but he did well and both teams were good for the money paid.

Your report is certainly a lot more detailed than mine Mr Cornwall! Very good report, as for me stating a dodgy free kick, my friend has just corrected me saying it wasnt the free kick i thought it was leading to the goal! I was talking about a foul seconds earlier. Not easy to try an watch the game and post on my phone haha!!

Oh yes I know the one you are on about. Where the player seemed to have been caught from behind which I saw and thought would be given and then when out wide the player was being pulled which the referees assistant was right to give. There are sometimes decisions where the referee gives near the assistant, who doesn't flag for and players still argue with assistants in frustration at why it was a foul when they hadn't given it but its great to have some banter when watching games about decisions.

Thats the one. I believe the one before Matt Halls recirved a yellow card for winning the ball. Still, not every decision can be perfect we all know that!

Phil Bromhead was one of the centre halfs with matt hawkes. To be honest the guys had good games as well as Harry Hook who used to play for Millbrook. There are a few ex Millbrook players who have moved to the Peninsula and Premier and its down to both Dane Bunney and Ryan Swiggs have produced in the last couple of years. I know hard to say this apart from Swiggsy who has stayed thick and thin with Millbrook. But all sides in the West Division of the Peninsula are starting to improve and will start to see those who are promoted to the Premier stay there and improve (Newquay will this year), St Austell, Penzance, Camelford and possibly Vospers and Truro in a couple of years.

It may have been from who again. The same guy who is NOW assistant at callington. Yes Lee Beer was there from callington fc who is only how his next opponents pan out should just like Truro who play Torpoint in the next round of Senior Cup so every reason why me nd u were there. Lee must have watched Saltash beat Liskeard today . View from the line saltash may beat cally but credit to darren edwards great manager at liskeard will spend 5 mins with n e 1 gav coulton outstanding but lucky not to be sent off or booked for having his hands around a liskeard players throat.
