Penzance Reserves 0-10 Falmouth Town Reserves

No wonder Town are the league’s top scorers, they were probably the most attacking team to visit Penlee Park in a couple of seasons. The Magpies defence, along with others this season could not contain the Falmouth strike force and at times it felt like any one of their players were capable of scoring.

Quick through balls were Penzance’s undoing and Falmouth go in front after just 5mins. Leading scorer in the league this season, Luke Work beats the off-side trap and flicks the ball into the net past the advancing keeper, Dan Baber to make it 0-1.

After that the goals come at regular intervals even with Penzance packing the mid-field by playing 4-5-1.

A clearance from the back on 14mins is knocked back in by Steve Brewer for Mike Brewer to shot in low, cross goal to double the lead.

3 more chances for Falmouth follow, a long ball is fired in but Baber leaps to palm it away for a corner, a shot is cleared off the line by Dean Mooney before Baber leaps high once more to palm away a shot.

3mins after the half-hour and it is 0-3 after Steve Proctor fires in low and hard forcing Baber to palm out and Wort has a simple tap-in at the back post.

3mins later and another goes in following a break on the left, a square cross, a shot parried away for Bobby Bryant to knock the ball in from 10yds.

Falmouth sit back a bit allowing Penzance to get back into the game and are nearly undone when they allow Jimmy England to break through the middle but his shot is saved by their keeper

H-T

The second half is almost non-stop Falmouth pressure on the Magpies goal. Penzance defend in numbers and apart from their taken goals Falmouth don’t get many other chances.

On 52mins, its 0-5 as another ball through the middle is fired in but deflected to Chris Morris who fires in low cross goal.

On the hour mark the ball is lobbed in high to the Penzance goal area where it bounces around, gets deflected, blocked before Work pokes it in from 6yds out to make it 0-6.

2mins later and another goes in, this time Jake Harvey runs onto the through ball, shooting in from 8yds out.

Penzance get a throw which goes long into the box for Matthew Best who turns and shoots but fires just over.

Following pressure with 15mins to go Falmouth add to their total. A shot comes in, Baber palms it away, another shot in is cleared to Steve Brewer who lobs the keeper to make it 0-8.

79mins and the ninth goal goes in following a run down the right, a high square ball and strong rising header by Morris giving Baber no chance

Nine nil down with no chance of getting back into the game and Penzance heads finally drop.

With 3mins on the clock Falmouth score their last when Morris runs in from the left gets 3yds out and fires in.

Mullion 7-0 Penzance Reserves

This game was much closer that the score-line suggests with Mullion scoring 3 late goals in injury time.

Penzance are the first to show with new signing Callum Gardner breaking through the middle forcing the keeper to dive right to push out a 30yd pile driver.

Mullion break on 7mins laying the ball off to the middle for Darren Maegor to beat Dan Baber with a rising 25yd volley to put his side 1-0 up.

A couple of chances fall to Mullion, a shot saved by Baber and another that goes wide.

Two late goals in the half on 41 and 44mins give them a 3-0 half-time interval lead.

The first comes after they work the ball down the right, knocking it over to Dan Thomas who chips Baber from 25yds.

The second follows a free kick on the right. The ball is knocked to the edge of the box for Jacob Lugg to fire in cross goal, low under the keeper.

H-T

The game is fairly even for the first few minutes until Mullion get a free kick wide right on half way taken by Shane Rosevear. The ball is lobbed in high, suddenly drops like a stone due to the strong breeze, landing on the penalty spot, and then bounces up and over everyone to nestle in the back of the net. 53mins gone 4-0.

Mullion shoot over the bar before Penzance win a free kick near half way. The ball is knocked in low and a flick-off goes just wide of the near post.

Penzance are now in the ascendancy and put pressure on the Mullion goal. A through ball to Jordan Anderson sees him beat two defenders; shoot only to see the keeper tip it onto the bar and down. Did it go over the line before the keeper turns and grabs it?

Jimmy England breaks through but his shot hits the outside of the right upright.

90mins on the clock, it’s windy, cold, come on ref blow the whistle. But no in the next 2mins Mullion score three times.

Penzance are pressing forward, a long Mullion ball out from the back to Ben Casey to volley in a screamer from 30yds.

A minute later and it is 6-0 as Chris Ensink beats the off-side trap at the centre circle, runs in one-on-one, rounds the keeper knocking the ball into an empty net.

90+2mins and a throw on the left is lobbed over for Lugg to shoot in low past the keeper to make it 7-0.

Penzance: Dan Baber, Sam Clough, Jimmy England, James Street, Graham Stirr, Matthew Best, Dean Mooney, Nathan Hook, Ed Wilkes, Jordan Anderson, Callum Gardner

Subs: Will Southcott (Hook 60), Sam Nicholls, Allen Spencer-Smith

Corners: Mullion 6-2 Penzance (3-2 1st half)

Troon 4-1 Penzance Reserves

Even though they lost Penzance played quite well and at times were the more dominant side. For once it was a sunny day at Troon but as usual there was an strong cold breeze blowing across the pitch.

For the first few minutes Penzance are on top without creating a clear cut chance before Troon manage to break out of their half. On 14mins they try a lob into the box and Steve Proctor sticks a hopeful leg out and the ball deflects off it and up and over the keeper into the net.

Troon now push forward looking to increase their lead. They break right into the box with Ben Gadson but his rising shot comes off the post. Another break on the right is knocked long for a powerful header but keeper Dan Baber is equal to it and tips it over for a corner.

Troon repeat the move on 20mins but this time the header by Kurtis Long finishes up in the back of the net to put Troon 2-0 up.

The only other real chance of the half falls to Penzance. A free kick 30yds out is bent low by Jimmy England, around the wall but the keeper pushes the ball out at the bottom of the post. The ball is deflected out, a shot comes in and the keeper gets down again and blocks it.

H-T

The second half starts fairly even until Troon get a throw on their right after 56mins. The ball is laid off to Jamie Marles who cross spins off his boot and cross goal into the net to make it 3-0.

Nothing much happens until there’s just over 10mins to go. A throw on their right is crossed low into the Penzance box. Somehow the ball gets loose to Darren Browning who fires in from 10yds to make it 4-0.

This sparks Penzance into life and they dominate the final few minutes. A goal is pulled back when they win a corner in the 81st minute. It’s lobbed into the box, starts ping-ponging around, is knocked out then in for substitute Ryan Williams, playing his first game, to head the ball in from the 6yd line.

Another Penzance corner on the right is swung in by England for Saul Pankhurst but his flicked header whips past the back post.

RNAS Culdrose 6-0 Penzance Reserves

Once again Penzance travelled to the Naval Base and came away empty handed. They could not cope with the quick darting runs of the Culdrose forwards conceding four in the first half the first after only a couple of minutes.

A quick long ball over the middle for Michael Clarke to run onto and he gets the first of a hat-trick, flicking the ball past the advancing keeper from 15yds out.

Deep defending from the Magpies keep Culdrose out for the next 12mins until they break right down to the corner flag. The ball is laid back to Jamie Adam to strike the ball home, low across the goal from 15yds.

Another attack from left to right ends in a cross goal shot that Penzance keeper Dan Baber palms onto the bar and away.

29mins on the clock and Culdrose are awarded a penalty. A quick break by Danny Brookwell sees him upended in the box. The ref points to the spot and Stephen Hughes steps up to take it. Shooting low to the keeper’s right, Hughes sees it saved but Clarke following up places the ball into the net from 10yds out.

2mins later and it’s 4-0. A quick break on the left, crossed to Clarke at the near post who knocks the ball in from 3yds out.

Penzance break on their left, lay the ball off to Saul Pankhurst who shoots low only to see the keeper get down and grab the ball.

Culdrose break left, fire in a rising shot that Baber pushes up onto the top of the post and away.

H-T

At the start of the second half it gets very rural as sheep wander across the corner of the playing fields!

The half is much quieter chance-wise with both teams cancelling each other out.

A Culdrose break forces Baber to palm a shot around the post for a corner.

On 75mins a long ball from Culdrose, down their right finds Adam who runs into the box and fires in from 10yds with a low cross goal shot.

5mins before the end Hughes makes up for his penalty miss. The ball is knocked long left to right across the front of the Penzance area, Hughes runs in one-on-one and fires in high cross goal to complete the scoring.
