Taken from the excellent SWPL site, these are the only confirmed transfers so far -

001 Mark Saunders From : Exeter Civil Service To : Alphington

002 Neil Saunders From : Exeter Civil Service To : Alphington

003 Adam Carter From : Torpoint Athletic To : Bodmin Town

004 Sean Johnston From : Penryn Athletic To : Truro City

005 Ben Clay From : Royal Marines To : Cullompton Rangers

006 Chris Duchenski From : Royal Marines To : Cullompton Rangers

007 Phil Everett From : Royal Marines To : Cullompton Rangers

008 Chris Garnsworthy From : Bickleigh To : Cullompton Rangers

009 George Robinson From : Royal Marines To : Cullompton Rangers

010 David Weeks From : Exmouth Town To : Ottery St Mary

011 Matthew Slark From : Alphington To : Ottery St Mary

Only 1 top 4 club has made a signing and probably they (Bodmin)only need a goal scorer to challenge Buckland for top spot.

What about the rest - who is splashing the cash in the race for the big prize money? Will any clubs speculate to accumulate and pay big money a week to rise above Buckland and Bodmin and win the pot of gold? How much is the prize money anyway? Will any of those clubs take promotion, once they've spent over 40k on winning the SWPL or will they be bankrupt??

I've been to most grounds in this league in the last few years as a dedicated "hopper" and most of them look like 40k would be well spent improving their facilities. Do any clubs invest in their grounds, or just throw money at the players?

Can add ian down from liverton to that, blimey Bovey aint half spending some money, heard they paid downer £1500 to sign and £100 a game

I have heard some ridiculous amounts being offered to "sign on" so wouldn't be surprised if this does happen in some cases.

Is Beckham suggesting that because he played with Ian Down a few years back he knows he would not accept such small amounts?

The amounts suggested on this thread give credibility to the 40k I mentioned - you only need to be spending 900 to 1k per game with 38 league games and 4 or 5 cup games to surpass that, without any money changing hands to "sign on".

Colleague of mine at work suggested at least two clubs West of the Tamar (one further West than the other) were struggling to attract players even when offering big bucks?

Maybe Sam Stevens and Joe Truelove rumour is not true?

Quote Looks like there could be a big turnover at ivybridge, seems a strange time for alot of players to be leaving with the new facilities seemingly ready for this season

Well unless things have improoved in the last week and I'm no expert, but will the new pitch will be playable before the clocks go back.

They must be doing a lot of rain dancing up there.

I hope the rumour is true that Neil Slateford is being given the opportunity to show Bideford FC what a fantastic player they can bring to their club, I am a massive fan of Neil's, I am not a St Austel supporter nor do I live in Cornwall but I watch local football in Devon & Cornwall with great passion and interest, there really are some very talented footballers that remain untapped/missed because of location, Neil is in my mind able to play at a much higher level and forgive me please for my views but I believe Neil and a few more of the young talented players should be looked at by professional clubs, yeh yeh I know that Neil isn't the biggest but look at some of the worlds best midfielders and not all are 6ft ers, keep the ball pass and move is more important, that is what Neil Slateford is all about.... Oh and I forgot to add he has a eye for goal be it free kicks or just open play.

Good luck Neil.

Ok don't know why your being so negative regarding Sean, but i'm sure hes better than you! Who are you & who do you play for?

Ok ok, enoughs enough. I appreciate that I have headbutted the corner flag on more than one occasion and probably more times than I'd like to remember.

However, I also can see that the word 'exceptional' is a little over the top for anyone (let alone myself) who plays South West Peninsula League Football.

Possibly even the word quality is a little too much but I accept this, I am not one to blow my own trumpet.

I'd like to think I will be missed at Penryn but only next season will tell whether this is true. Although, while I am on the topic of Penryn I would like to say that Penryn is a great football club and it was a great place for me to play football. It has some excellent people there who make the club work and I'd like to think that I have played some part in that, if only on a very small scale.

On that note, I hope Mr G Hips can appreciate that we are all unprofessional footballers who play because we enjoy playing football and not because we are, by any means quality or exceptional footballers, otherwise we would be playing at a much higher standard.

I'm sure you will find plenty more topics regarding transfers to talk about as the next few weeks progress and I will all but be a distant memory until boxing day when I smash home the winner away at Kernick Road (smashing the corner flag once or twice on the way)

Finally, at a time where transparency is a hot topic, and merely just a thought of mine, I wonder if more people would be prepared to use their own name on the Cornish Soccer Forum? Rather than hide behind an unknown sports injury badly repaired by doctors with glass rather than the more commonly used prosthetic implant......

Thank you for your support Cantona 7 and I hope to raise my head more for all to see next season
