Sticker did well today against a side who despite containing some decent footballers decided their best approach was to try and kick us off the park. The young side we have showed plenty of courage to match their undoubted ability to end up comfortable winners.

Unfortunately Dan Meens who was one of the victims of several shocking tackles, will have his broken leg put into plaster later in the week.I was looking forward to two unbeaten teams fighting hard to stay in the cup, sadly one team did themseves no credit by trying to bully the opposition into submission Hopefully our next opponents will attempt to beat us by playing football and proving their team to be better than ours.

Get well soon Dan.

SO WAS THE PLAYER SEND OFF FOR THAT TACKLE KEVIN??

got to say as well never known elburton villa to be a kicking team :angry2:

anyway good luck in the next round as well :clapper:

No booked ,but the Ref who had a difficult game was honest enough to admit that his view wasn,t the best and having spoken to others probably got it wrong. He can only give what he sees and no beef with the Ref who is one of the best on the circuit. I think Elburton as their previous resultssuggest have the ability to be a good side but arrived today with an attitiude which was over physical to say the least.

Totally, totally agree with your sentiments Kelvin it was the most disgraceful performance I've seen from an opposing team at Burngullow, credit to the Sticker players in the way they reacted by continuing to play football and play Elburton off the park! They also showed great restraint too after seeing what had just happened to their team mate. Poor Dan was in absolute agony and in tears laying on the pitch and he is such an honest player! My best wishes to Dan, get well soon buddy!

Having been on the end of a 'kicking' from a new look elburton this season. I have sympathy with you guys and the lad with a broken leg, get well soon.

They are a completely different side from last season including Ryan Elliot up front who gets goals for fun(currently out injured) and the midfield with a certain ex Wessex Ben Washam who loves to kick.

I don't know your team but from what ive read, well done for playing football and getting a good result!

Would like to reiterate Jefferson Hog's comments about yesterday's game.

A great match for the spectators which proved to be the right decision to switch it to Langsford Park as both clubs made a few quid.

Could have gone either way, Tavy were the better side in the 1st half and deservedly came off in front, but once we made it 2-2 midway through the 2nd half we looked the more likely side to win it before the dreaded penalties.

Naturaly delighted to have won it in the shoot out and look forward to a favourable draw in the next round, but Tavy's name could just as easily have been going into the hat.

Thanks to Tavy for their hospitality and a mention for the man in black...Jeff Rutherford...after our last two games it was good to get a ref who on the day was top class.

How refreshing to see "deadly" local rivals agree to a venue switch-for the mutual benefit.Speaking to a good friend who saw the game,he reckoned it was one of the best games seen at Langsford Park for ages: and also one of the best crowds.

I would suggest,Coach KT your "few quid" was a massive understatement!

St Stephens Borough 4-2 Probus

Borough still not firing on all cylinders but a win is a win.

Fair play to Probus for their effort and determination.

Looking forward to our first ever encounter with Bere Alston next week.

I thought it was a decent enough game, on a good surface, although both teams probably have, and will, play better. We couldn't cope without the spine of our team - Fabian Richards (keeper) and Steve Way (midfield) unavailable, Pete Davey (centre-half) in goal (!) and Paul Cox (centre-forward) working, but take nothing away from St. Stephens Borough, they deserved their win.

I hope your lad who got a boot in the head from his team-mate is ok, although I suspect he will have a banging headache today.

Back to league action next week, where we need points to lift us up the table.

what team did u play for last season then

Sticker faithfull - hope the injured lad recovers to be playing again this year wish him a speedy recovery. The tackle was not deemed by the referee as a sending off - a yellow was shown some time after the unfortunate incident. I have seen challenges like this before - both lads went in but the Sticker player pulled out slightly before the clash. The ref showed no further cards for bad tackles throughout the game - Sticker played very well and deserved win. Football is a contact sport after all and as the ref was in control throughout whats the beef. All best in the next round. :SM_carton_y:

Best wishes go to young lad from Sticker. Unfortunate to see more bad tackles resulting in broken legs, seems more and more over recent years! We have also had incidents with an Elburton team kicking lumps out of us a couple years back and that also resulted in a young player for us breaking their leg who as also in the County Youth squad. I hope the message will sink in sometime for the 'kickers' of Elburton

Not that I was at the game last weekend but all the best to the Sticker player and I wish for him to have a speedy recovery...... However I was at the Bude game 2 seasons ago and do re-call the incident in how your player suffered his break. Please correct me if I am wrong but this injury wasn't caused by Villa players 'kicking lumps' out of him but for a late 'attempted block' on your defenders clearance from our striker! Again, the referee didn't believe it to be a sending off offence and gave the player a yellow card. I haven't posted on here for some time but felt I needed to comment on your post.

Wez You are missing the point, yes both players were going for the ball, but the villa player went in over the top and he was off the ground, if the ref didnt have a clear view then there shouldn't have been any card shown. It should have been a straight red, no doubt about! Also there were 4 further bookings for unfair challenges.Yes Sticker did deserve to win and the beef as you call it, is one of our players is now out for possibly the rest of the season!

Razor - the ref deemed the tackle a yellow and he was under some pressure from the sideline to give this in the first place - Sicker are undoubtedly upset by the injury but you are wrong to assume that further cards were shown for bad tackles - remaining cards were for dissent; check with the ref. All the best. :SM_carton_y:

Wez, yes the referee deemed the challenge only warranted a yellow and if had really listened to the voices on the sidelines as you suggest he surely would have shown a red card! he said afterwards he did not get a clear view! Yet he must have seen something to show the yellow. However we on the sidelines including the Sticker coach saw the challenge and it was studs showing and the player was actually off the ground! Thats what incensed us all! I can understand you trying to defend the player but thats not what we go to watch local football for, we get enough of that on TV! Incidently I never said that more yellow cards were shown for bad tackles,I said for unfair challenges! I was right in front of one late in the second half when one of the Sticker players on the right was side was deliberately tripped and consequently booked. Elburton Villa have undoubtably got some good quality players in the side as your results have shown so far but you were totally outclassed on Saturday but best of luck for the rest of the season!

I think remarks against Elburton Villa are a bit over the top with regards to being "dirty players". I, personally, was expecting a closer game. Both teams undefeated in there respected divisions but that went out of the windown after ten minutes. Sticker were by far the better team, finishing very clinical. Front two ran rings around the back four and the No 7 was the best player on the park, apart from his blatant dive which he got a free kick. From what I have seen this season Elburton Villa are not a "dirty team". They are encouraged to play football thats why they are top of the league.

5 bookings in total for Elburton, 4 of them for dissent. The main one which everyone is on about deserved a booking, both players going for the ball. How I saw it the Elburton player went over the ball and caught the player, he did not intend to break the players leg. The referee did not blow until 3-4 seconds after the incident, and I thought he was in a good position. But credit to the Sticker players, who could have seeked revenge, but just got on with the game.

Elburton Villa did not play very well at all, they deserve what they got, 'A footballing lesson' All credit to Sticker they have a fabulous set up and made the players and the small band of supporters very welcome. The very best of luck for the rest of the season to Sticker and hopefully the player who suffered the broken leg takes part later in the campaign

I'd just like to point out that as an Elburton Villa player currently injured but at the game that the tackle in question was a 50/50 and was going to go unpunished until there was a reaction for the sidelines. Ben Washam gets alot of stick but had never actually recieved a red card for a bad challenge the whole time i've played with him. I played for Elburton against Sticker in a pre-season friendly and was subject of some stupid tackles myself. It's always unfortunate when someone ends up with a bad injury and wish the lad all the best in his revovery. If the same Sticker fans were at the pre-season game they would tell you we are a footballing side and not a dirty team!! Well done Sticker Good Luck for the season!!
