St Darren Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Now I really couldn't give a monkies how England did, granted, its nice to have a bit of interest during the month of June every 2 years, but other than that, England just get in the way of Premiership football and generally ruin TV for an evening! Something was said on the radio this morning about the support there at Wembley last night, how some went to sample England at Wembley and all that. This is partly where the problem lies when it comes to supporting the nation, or indeed supporting any other side. If you pay to go and watch England, then thats what you should be doing, 'watching England', not admiring, some over priced, corporate eyesore of a stadium. Too many supporters nowadays just go to watch it for the experience of Wembley and not there supporting the team. Get England on the road again, places like Pride Park, Old Trafford, The Emirates, White Hart Lane, St Mary's, places where fans go to support the team and not to take pictures of some empty red seats because some corporate sponsor is entertaining some potential clients by giving them a glass of Pinot Grigio and a cucumber sarnie on brown bread. But no, because the FA have spent so much money on Sven, McClown, Capello, on Wembley and the bid for the 2018 World Cup, they need to keep games at Wembley to contribute towards the running costs and to not make the whole thing a waste of time. Until the national side go back to being part of the nation then the England National team will continue to get booed off the pitch by a minority of people who have no idea about how football used to be before Sky TV took over the game. Bring football back to the people! AGAINST MODERN FOOTBALL.
spurfect Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 St Darren, agree 100%.You have hit the nail on the head. Wembley had to reduce ticket prices last night to try and get the attendance up. Cheapest tickets were £20 or a family ticket would cost £60. People are losing interest with England. One good thing. No Tottenham players injured. Phew!!!!Relief!!!!
Guest Ancag Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 60 pounds is still too much for that entertaiment
whuru Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 What Entertainment ........ I agree with you Darren took Ben to see England at Anfield and Old Trafford and the atmosphere even though they were both friendlies was fantastic.. There are some great stadiums up and down the country that could host england games. I agree with you football is for the rich, nowadays Clubs would rather have empty seats than sell them cheaply there more interested in corporate boxes etc... I have even noticed a few empty seats at all the big clubs this season money is tight and its about time that clubs started to give back to the supporters who have kept them afloat over the years and start reducing ticket prices. if i took one of my boys to the emirates or even west ham you are looking at £70 - £120 for 2 tickets plus train fares and food and programmes etc and you are looking at £250 to watch 90 minutes of football. Gone are the days of squeezing up to the person in front of you to get two through one turnstile turn, or going through someones garden regurly at the Valley in the late 70's where they had a shed which backed onto the terraces which the owner had cut a sliding back into, and people just used to go through the shed into the ground and leave money in an honesty box. It was kept going for 5 years !!!! To sum up football in 2010.. overpriced, overpaid players over protected in overpriced stadiums and to be honest a hell of a lot of people have lost interest in it...........
spurfect Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 whuru, you must be going to the wrong grounds. Last game at White Hart Lane v Aston Villa, cracking game.cheapest seat £34.Sold out. Spurs next home games,Everton 23rd Oct,Sold out,Inter Milan Champions League,Sold out,Tickets a little dearer for this one,£44. Even our away games,Fulham ,Sold Out,Man Utd ,Sold Out. Tickets for Spurs games are like gold dust, the place is buzzing. I would like you to go to The Lane and tell people they are losing interest.NO WAY. As for England that is a different ball game all together. One pundit on Talksport said thank god the internationals are over,we can get back to the Premiership.
St Darren Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 John, beleive me you can still 'bunk' into games!! a Friendly for Liverpool at Crewe a couple of years ago, had a 'few' extras in there!! Spurfect, the majority of games get sold out for the big clubs, but it still leaves empty seats! Spurs have 38,000 is it??? could they regularly fill 50,000?? I doubt it, I know Liverpool wouldn't fill 60,000 during midweek games. Tottenham are going alright at the moment, would that still be the case next season if they didn't qualify for the Champs league?? this isn't a dig at Spurs! But the main point of the thread is England games! AGAINST MODERN FOOTBALL
spurfect Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 I think a lot of people lost interest with England at the World Cup. There is no way the F.A. would let England play at other grounds. After the world cup,Capello promised a new era. Im afraid we got the same old same old, nothing new. I feel sorry for the poor sods, that spent a fortune and went to South Africa.
St Darren Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 I lost interest in England years ago!! even more so, now their games are on ITV I'd rather Liverpool won the Carling Cup (which they won't this year!!) than England win the World Cup
