cornishteddyboy Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Cornwall Combination League 18th September 2010 Wendron United 1-0 Penzance Reserves The youngsters of Penzance could not have tried harder to break Wendrons eleven man defence. A weakened Magpies with 6 players out due to injury and first team call-ups had a front five who were only 16/17 years old, one recognised defender in Darren Ball, had to call on the services of manager Allen Spencer-Smith and Ryan and Liam Andrew’s dad Brian. The youngsters were up front and the older players organised themselves at the back. Penzance arrived late due to traffic delays and after a quick warm-up lined up with what must be one of their youngest attacks ever. Even so they attacked from the off and dominated most of the game apart from a fifteen minute spell at the end of the first half. Wendron break down their right then walk the ball around the middle of the box, resulting in a low shot saved by Ryan Gendall with his legs. For the next twenty minutes it’s all one way towards the Wendron goal with Tiffer at the back for Penzance shouting “Hold the line”. A long ball left to right sees Liam Andrew cross to Lewis Caspall who turns and shoots but the keeper saves at the bottom of the post. The ball bounces out to Tom Putterell who shoots over from 6yds. Another break from the right, cross into the box, Andrew shoots but the keeper gets down to push it away. Wendron break right, cross in, a long shot goes wide. 26mins gone and Wendron get the games only score. Penzance lose the ball on half-way. A quick cross pitch ball forward sees Simon Williamson race straight down the middle firing in from 15yds. From the celebrations it looked as if Wendron had won the FA Cup! Wendron on the right work the ball across the goal, shot comes in, Gendall palms away for a corner. From a Penzance throw on the right, Caspell knocks in a curler which fools everyone into thinking it’s going out but it skims the front of the bar, bounces down to Putterell who can’t control it and he knocks it over from 6yds. H-T The second half starts with Penzance on the attack and it stays like that almost the whole 45mins. The only trouble, due to an eleven man defence Penzance can only shoot from long range. They get a series of corners which the keeper has to flick, kick and palm away and he was Wendrons man of the match. Unfortunately there was little close-in action. Penzance break right to left, the resulting cross goal shot has to be finger-tipped away over the bar by the keeper for a corner. Penzance break left, cross goal shot from Andrew just wide. Wendron break left, the ball is whipped over to the near post but the shot goes over the bar. F-T Penzance Man of the Match goes to Ross Badcock. Organised the mid-field and got the attacks going. Penzance – Ryan Gendall, Darren Ball, Ross Badcock, Ryan Holland, Allen Spencer-Smith, Liam Andrew, Joe Chadwick, Jimmy England, Tom Putterell, Lewis Caspall, Ross Williams Sub – Brain Andrew (Williams 79) Corners – Wendron 4-9 (3-2 1st half) Fouls conceded – Wendron 15-13 Penzance Crowd – 23 (3 from Pz. Would have been 4 but he was roped into the team)
murphy Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 dont quite agree penzance had all the play i thought wendron had most of the first half play an brought good saves from your keeper. and second half you did play well but all in all think wendron deserved the 3 points even if penzance were short.supposedly.
cornishteddyboy Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 Penzance were missing Tom Dann, James Street, Joe Day and Ryan Andrew fron their usual starting line-up. plus another couple of squad players.
