Darin Morse Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 Foxhole 3 Holsworthy 0 Saturday 18th September 2010 Foxhole's second successive victory was ultimately as comfortable as the scoreline suggests but the outcome may have been different had both Chidley and Rowe not squandered early chances when well-placed. However, the Foxes had also started brightly, testing Allen and Ward with some dangerous crosses and some neat inter-play, with Friendship invariably prominent. Shortly after Banks had been cautioned by the excellent referee for needlessly handling Ryan Holland's throw, Chidley fired a free-kick narrowly wide but, within seconds, a long ball out of defence was flicked on by Rowe for Laughton to unlease a thunderous volley inside Fuller's near post on 26 minutes. Holsworthy almost replied immediately, but Whetter's great tackle prevented the imposing Bunning from pulling the trigger. It was a crucial moment, as Foxhole doubled the advantage on the half hour when Friendship's long throw-in was only half cleared for Kempthorne to strike an 18-yard half-volley through a mass of legs and past a slow to react Fuller. The lead was deserved, but nevertheless the points were far from safe as the burly Rowe's strong running caused the home rearguard some anxiety until his withdrawal on the hour. Holsworthy changed ends with their impressive skipper and left-back Liam Dart now occupying a midfield berth as well as a new shirt to replace the bloodstained one incurred after a tussle with Griffin, and his intelligent prompting soon created an opening for Chidley, but Ralph saved the day with another well-timed challenge. However, on 53 minutes, Whetter scored the decisive third from 30 yards with a brilliant shot that gave Fuller no chance. Friendship ought to have added a fourth but he scuffed his close-range effort, while Irons blocked Bird's attempt after a fine run, but the visitors gave little indication of notching a consolation, save for Chidley's drive which was deflected over the bar after Ryan Holland had parried Bonney's initial drive. As the play became increasingly scrappy, Griffin was booked yet again five minutes from time for a gratuitous foul on Dart.
