Darin Morse Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Saturday 11th September 2010 Callington 0 Foxhole 1 For the fifth successive match Foxhole scored once, but this time Scott Laughton's second-minute toe poke past Tom Beman was sufficient to secure all three points for the battling visitors after a difficult week. While Callington enjoyed the majority of possession in each half, with midfielders Clarke and Widdecombe prominent, the Foxes successfully protected their goalkeeper to the extent that Ryan Holland was not seriously tested until the very end of the first half when he saved with his legs Burgoyne's drive, and then denied McShane with a fine save after Burgoyne had flicked on a long throw. Earlier, Widdecombe had fired wide when well-placed and Clarke had elected to shoot when Burgoyne was better placed as the home team sought a quick response, but the Foxes, prompted by the impressive Kempthorne, also had their moments with Griffin twice going close and Beman fielding Laughton's fiercely struck effort. The second period was to follow a similar pattern, with Ralph and Adam Holland repelling all that the lively home team could throw at them. McShane shot just too high and Green almost finished off a strong run with the equaliser as the Foxes repeatedly lost possession far too easily, but Callington ran out of ideas amid a raft of substitutions allowing Foxhole to see out time in relative comfort, particularly when Green was surprisingly withdrawn. Friendship's chip was the closest the Foxes came to a decisive second but they were happy enough, especially as the sensible refereeing of Mr Oldaker meant recent disciplinary issues did not resurface.
