Penzance Reserves 2-5 Penryn Athletic Reserves

Penzance were beaten by some sloppy defending and the pace of the Penryn attack. Time and again they were outpaced through the middle of the park.

Early on Ryan Gendall has to make a double save. Penryn break through the middle shooting from the edge of the box. He saves with his legs, then another shot comes in and he gets down and clears with his legs again.

Penzance gain a free kick on the left, knock it in and head just wide of the back post.

Gendall is called into action again leaping to palm the ball up and away for a corner as Penryn work the ball left to right across the pitch, the striker breaking a tackle to shoot.

Just before the half-hour mark Penryn go in front after they break right, knock the ball across the pitch to David Broglino who scores from the edge of the box with a deflected shot that loops over the diving keeper. 5mins later on 33mins Penryn go two up when Tom Annear break into the box, shoots and once again the keeper is beaten by a deflected shot. 5mins to half-time and Penzance slip further behind. A through ball into the middle, Shane Richards runs onto it, low shot from 15yds into the net past the advancing keeper.

3mins later Penzance score through Ben Williams. They break left, cross the ball to the back of the box for Ben Williams to flick a header in at the back post.

H-T

Gendall has to palm away a great curling shot from Ashley Thomas after he goes on a run from mid-field beating 3-4 defenders on the way.

66mins and a poor Penzance pass across the back sees Richards nip in and shoot. His shot bounces off the bottom of the post and Annear nips in to score the rebound making it 1-4. 5mins later Penzance again loose possession with some silly passing and Jason Roberts nips in to chip the keeper and score the fifth.

This seems to stir Penzance and they start playing some neat attacking football and 10mins later on 81mins, youngster Tom Putterell gets his first senior goal. A long ball from the back, through the middle sees him run onto it and he knocks it in under the keeper from 15yds.

F-T

Penzance Man of the Match goes to Lewis Caspall. Ran his heart out up front and every time he showed a bit of skill he was clattered by the Penryn defence but got up without complaint.

Penzance – Ryan Gendall, Tom Dann, Darren Ball, James Street, Lewis Caspall, Ross Williams, Jimmy England, Ryan Holland, Joe Day, Ryan Andrew, Ben Williams

Subs – Liam Andrew (Holland 65), Tom Putterell (Williams 65), Sam Clough (England 69)

Corners – Penzance 1-6 Penryn (1-3 1st half)

Fouls conceded – Penzance 6-15 Penryn

Crowd - 49

Great report CTB. Good game to be involved in with us controlling large periods of it. I have to agree with your choice of man of the match he was awsome all evening, causing us defenders problems with his nimble footwork.

I want to see one game where the other team give Lewis some room and he can really show people what he can do with the ball.

Trouble is, in the combo you get closed down too quickly or after beating your marker a few times you start getting clattered every time you get the ball.

Lewis is a quality little player. Great left foot. Keep up the good work on the programmes CTB! Loving the 'guess the ground' feature! Top stuff. :clapper:
