Penzance Reserves 1-5 St Agnes

A bad day at the office for the Magpies as they lost to a very good St Agnes side that will be pushing for the title come seasons end. After going 2-1 down heads seen to drop and it felt they were just seeing out time at the end. A lot of youngsters in the team bodes well for the future as they get praise from a lot of supporters from both teams, but Penzance need to be harder into the tackle.

St Agnes are the first to show with a long shot over the bar followed by an early goal on 11mins. A through ball down the middle sees Mike Burn beating a challenge before sliding the ball past the advancing keeper.

Four minutes later the home side are back on level terms when a long ball from the back drops down at the edge of the box. Joe Day jumps and despite being clattered by the St Agnes keeper nods a looping header into the net. The team are celebrating whilst Day lies prone on the ground dazed from the challenge.

The rest of the half is mostly St Agnes’. They break right; a cross goal shot goes wide. Another break right and Ryan Gendall has to make a sharp save at his near post.

34mins and the Saints go in front. A corner on the left comes over, is cleared to Alec Penrose who volleys in high from 15yds.

H-T

Gendall has to deny St Agnes again early in the second half. A throw on the right is laid off, the shot is saved by the keeper spreading himself wide to save with his legs and clear. Another shot in goes over the bar before Penrose gets his second a minute before the hour mark. St Agnes come down the left wing, knock over a cross pitch ball, Penrose steps inside his marker and fires into the net under the keeper from 15yds.

Penzance have a free kick on the right. Day lobs it in and Ryan Andrew gets a free header but the ball goes over the bar.

On 69mins St Agnes get their fourth. A hurried back pass forces a high kick to clear. The ball drops to Tom Benney who fires in a low shot from the edge of the box.

The last minute of normal time St Agnes score again. They work the ball around the edge of the box; Mike Burn nips in to place the ball into the corner of the net from 15yds.
