Damo No 2 Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Stuart Rule All Star XI 5 .v. Trevenson Select XI 2 An entertaining friendly encounter in memoriam to Mike Rule which was preceded by a minutes applause. Despite a slippy, wet surface both sides played good football. Stu Rules side had superior movement and pace throughout their midfield and front line ( James Martin, Stu Rule, Steve and Luke Abbot-Smith to name a few ) but this was equally matched by the doggedness of Trevenson with old ( sorry - experienced! ) heads Neal Jeffree, Howard Seller and Ralph Halden complimented well by the movement of Ian Cunningham, Shaun Isaacs, Shaun Wilkins and Andrew ' Mushy ' Symons. Half time was all square at 2 a piece. Mike Barratt finishing well and Mushy scoring from the spot. Second half continued in the same vain as the 1st despite roll on roll off subs. Rod Bowman playing his first 11 a side football since September 2007 and who will be happy to head clear a cross whilst under pressure from his son Dan Bowman. The last 20 - 25 minutes was always going to be telling with Stu's younger assembled sides' ( all under 24 yrs old ) fitness coming through. The third goal could and should of been saved but Trevenson 'keeper Kyle Harvey tried pulling a save for the cameras! On a goalkeeping note Shaun Carter in goal for Stu's team pulled off a number of cracking saves. Two further goals were added and Stu Rule was presented with the Mike Rule memorial cup at the end of the match. A thoroughly enjoyable game and one which will be repeated annually. Stu Rule All Star XI scorers: Luke Abbot-Smith Stu Rule ?? Hoon James ' Jeb ' Martin Tom ' Seymour ' Butt Trevenson Select XI scorers: Mike Barratt Andrew ' Mushy ' Symons ( pen )
