Penzance Reserves 3-0 Ludgvan

I don’t think there can be anyone from Ludgvan who wouldn’t say that Penzance should have won by a wider margin. Somehow Penzance left their scoring boots at home and missed chances that were begging. For long periods the Magpies who were giving a run-out to three first team squad members were camped in the Ludgvan half especially during the second half.

Within moments of the start Ludgvan clear off their line after Bradley Wills runs on and knocks the ball past Wayne Wager, Ludgvan’s keeper. From the corner Joe Chadwick heads just over.

Chadwick misses an open goal seconds later when he fires over from 6yds out. A poor Ludgvan goal kick goes to Joe Day who runs in one on one then flicks the ball with the outside of his boot and watches it agonisingly roll past the right upright.

Penzance go in front on 22mins when a corner on the right is knocked deep for Ryan Andrew to head back cross goal into the net.

It is now all one way. Chadwick again heads over when a long Tom Dann throw reaches him on the 6yd line. Wager is on his toes when Penzance break right to a narrow angle. He has to flick a cross goal shot away for a corner.

Just at the end of the half Ludgvan have a throw on the right. It is laid off, the pass comes over but the resulting shot is wide.

H-T

The half starts with Penzance on the attack with Ludgvan having all 11 behind the ball. 6mins in and Ross Badcock scores to make it 2-0. Penzance work down the right, cross into the box where three youngsters knock it around to each other without taking a shot. Badcock rushes in and fires home from 15yds, the ball squirting under the diving keeper.

Wager makes amends when Penzance get a free kick on the left. The ball is knocked in, headed out, a shot comes in and the keeper finger tips the ball away for a corner. The corner comes in and Ryan Andrew fires the ball onto the crossbar.

A minute after the hour mark Chadwick gets the goal he deserves. A Penzance corner on the right is knocked in across the front of goal and Joe gets the faintest of touches at the near post to fool the keeper, the ball going in at the back post.

Chadwick picks up a poor goal kick but hastily boots the ball over the bar. Joe Day has a shot as does Liam Andrew, his going cross goal and just wide.

Ludgvan almost pull one back at the death as Penzance relax after making a set of substitutions. They get a free kick on the edge of the box (everyone first thinking it is a penalty when the ref points towards the box). The kick goes around the wall and bounces off the bar. The last action sees the Hurlers get their only corner of the game on 91mins but it comes to nothing.

Man of the Match until his substitution was Steve Burt. A mid-field general that Pz have been lacking.

Penzance – Ryan Gendall, Darren Ball, Joe Day, Joe Chadwick, Bradley Wills, James Street, Ross Badcock, Ryan Andrew, Steve Burt, Tom Dann, Ben Williams
