Darin Morse Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Foxhole 1 Vospers 2 Saturday 28th August 2010 Foxhole's stuttering start to the season continued with a disappointing and deserved defeat to a workmanlike visiting outfit. The match had started at a frenetic pace, the Foxes immediately on the offensive but without seriously threatening a nervous-looking Barnes, a trait, alas, which was to continue throughout the match. It was against the run of play that Vospers opened the scoring on seventeen minutes when Adam Holland failed to clear his lines, allowing Jasper to set up Honeywill for an easy finish from twelve yards. Griffin, soon booked for fouling O'Rourke, then twice planted headers from dead-balls over the bar before the equaliser came after thirty-three minutes. Allen was cautioned for hauling down Rowe and, from the resulting Warne free-kick, Ralph nodded the ball back for Whetter to hook home. This ought to have been the spur the Foxes needed, especially when the dangerous Honeywill limped off soon afterwards, but they failed to convince and may have changed ends in arrears as Jasper blazed wide when well-placed. Despite the fact that their tactic at aiming high balls in the general direction of Rowe and Body was clearly not working, Foxhole generously continued to provide heading practice for the formidable central defensive pairing of Simmons and Allen. Warne was unable to convert from close-range at the far post, and Body somehow headed over Rowe's inviting centre, but there was little else to suggest a home winner. By contrast, Vospers attacked far more incisively, their midfield offering typical guile to supply Hoblin with space to fire in an effort well saved, while Mitchell's header was scrambled off the line by Bird, so their clinching goal nineteen minutes from time had been coming. The referee inexplicably deemed Geach's challenge on Hoblin to be illegal, and, from Beynon's flighted free-kick, Simmons rose unchallenged to power a header into the net from eight yards. Simmons fell awkwardly when scoring but the dire Foxes were unable to capitalise on the reshuffle provoked by his withdrawal and may have suffered further embarrassment when both Allen and Almond squandered late chances. Foxhole (4-4-2): Ryan Holland 6; CJ Bird 6 (sub. Kyle Friendship 5), Gareth Geach 6, Adam Holland 6, Bradley Ralph 6; Jason Warne 6, Richard Griffin 6, Lee Whetter 6, Michael Kempthorne 5 (sub. Brandon Tregidga 6); Mark Rowe 5, Michael Body 6. Vospers (4-4-2): Andy Barnes; Nick Souness, Ashley O'Rourke, Rikki Allen, James Simmons (sub. Martin Burgess); James Hoblin, Jason Beynon, John Scholes, Martin Mitchell; Jamie Honeywill (sub. Craig Brenton), Joe Jasper (sub. Rob Almond). Referee: Mr Mark Philpott (Falmouth) 6.
