Dobwalls 2 Plymstock 1

The new look Lantoom park side got their first win of the season in an entertaining game against their Devon rivals.

The game was played at a furious pace from start to finish with both sides playing some attractive football. The hosts took the lead after 30 minutes when a Ryan Richards corner found the target off a defender whose mistimed header eluded the keeper.

A couple of good saves by the home keeper kept the visitors at bay until the halftime whistle blew.

A minute into the second half Ben Gasgoine latched on to a through ball to calmly slot the ball into the bottom corner past the advancing keeper.

Plymstock came back strongly and reduced the arrears when Craig Holt found himself in space his low strike gave the keeper no chance.

Both sides created chances and an acrobatic save by the Plymstock keeper kept their hopes of getting something from the game alive.

Just before the end a speculative 40 yard shot by Dobwalls central defender Matthew Hawes cannoned back off the crossbar with the keeper well beaten.

The young Dobwalls team were clearly delighted with the result which will give them confidence that they can compete at this level of football.

The game was played in tremendous spirit and it was refreshing to see that both sets of players and supporters were a credit to their respective clubs for the way in which they conducted themselves on the night.

The referee who had travelled from Helston for the match had an excellent game.

I wasn't at the game (injured) but heard Plymstock had two good penalty appeals waved away, leaving the Dobwalls players laughing at the referee's poor decision!

One of the penalty appeals was so blatantly a dive everyone laughed at it.

Sorry to hear your injured james, so who is number 1 for that game then? is dan johnson still at the club cause he was playing towards the end of the season. Good luck to you and plymstock this season. Last season Plymstock were in the top 4/5 sides in the swpl to concede the least/lose the least games last season. It was one of the other stats, would have to get mike or phil to confirm that.
