Goonhavern Res. 2 .v. Mt. Ambrose 3

A good workout for both sides and things certainly heading in the right direction for new Mt manager Steve Hick with our friendly results record standing at loss, draw and tonights win!

Both sides started brightly and battled well as we sussed each other out. The game was bogged down in midfield somewhat but Goonhavern started to find their rhythm first and we were grateful that they didn't capitalise on some of their through balls and flicks. Goonhavern took the lead when a cracking move and pass down the left and an equally good low ball into the box was finished by one of the on rushing strikers. Richard Ward and Jason Dyer were working hard up front but again we were guilty of not really testing the home 'keeper. The goal had took a bit of wind out of our sail and Goonhavern punished us when their striker hit a sweet shot to take a 2 nil half time lead. We changed a few personnel at half time, Adam ' smokes ' Williams, most notably, making his debut in goal. We did come into the game more strongly but Goonhavern were holding strong and trying to knock the ball down the flanks. We started to come into the game by getting on top of the midfield and we were rewarded when a high energy run around from Jason Dyer saw him hit the ball home. The goal gave us the impetus to push on and we started to find space and also forced a number of corners. Adam Rowse was our match winner finishing well on two occasions from close range. Goonhavern had the opportunity to equalise late on when Smokes saved a cross shot but failed to hold it and the Goonhavern lad running in was only able to sky his effort.

Played in the right spirit tonight and all the best for the coming season to all at Goonhavern on behalf of Mt. Ambrose FC.
