Well done Jamie for keeping it together I'm sure your club will be fine with two local Troon boys in charge

Good game better result...enjoyed it today for Grampound 2nds wish i had more time on pitch but nonetheless team effort and whole team looked good, defended well and every attack was quick and with good finishing. Should of scored but didnt land right for me to get me up and running, but great pre-season result well done lads. :clapper: :c:

Troon 1 (Danny Claypit) Grampound 0

A completely new Troon 1st team clicked from the start as they over turned an organised Grampound team who will undoubtedly hold their own in their league next season. Firstly we’d like to thank Grampound for travelling down with two teams for these friendlies, and staying for a chat etc afterwards.

Troon got off to a terrible start when newly elected captain Jason “ Beefy” Smeeth lost the toss, not a great start at all!! With both teams playing 4-4-2 they seemed to cancel each other out a little, but credit to each team who played some brilliant football from the start. Troon had a lot of possession in the middle third and created a chance when good play from Scoot “Gadaffi” Smeeth layed a ball onto Ashley “no name” Smeeth, who ran through on goal, skinned, yes skinned the keeper only to find a Grampound player on the goal line who blocked his shot off of the line. Grampound were confident on the ball, and near the end of the half created a chance when their left winger cut in and hit a low ball across the 6 yard box, but luckily Chris “Woody” Wood managed to tuck in and get a foot in on the cross to clear it away from danger. HT 0-0

After a quick 5 min break both teams went head to head again, with a similar story, Troon having a lot of possession but Grampound defence standing their ground. Grampound’s player of the match was their big lad in the middle, who’s name I do not know, but was outstanding throughout, Troons Richard “Pip” Scott was equally as good, snapping at his heels every time he had the ball and hassled both of Grampounds players without fail. Danny Jewell returned to Troon to continue the Jewell legacy on, as his dad played for Troon 1st team for many years, bagged hundreds of goals, and is still at the tender age of 40……….playing for Titans in the mining league, Jeweller was awesome throughout the game, winning everything in the air, and getting a toe in when needed, Beefy also looked as hungry as ever, anticipating runs, balls, and played out of his skin for the full 90. The game was played in good spirits, both teams having rolling subs, Danny Bell and Malcolm Nicholls started off upfront, both created a lot of space and some great runs for each other from the start. Danny Claypit and Dan Oliver came on to replace them and they also hassled and worked their socks off upfront, not giving them away defence a second on the ball. Troon took the lead when a great ball from Gadaffi was met by Clappit, who got in behind the defender, who them clipped his heels and brought him down for a penalty, Claypit stepped up and brilliantly slotted it into the top corner to make it 1-0. Troon’s midfield worked their socks off, Darren “Pecker” Browning on the left was brilliant throughout, and showed the hunger that Troon have been missing in recent years, getting up and down, covering for Woody at left back when needed, once who loses a few pounds he’ll continue to be a great asset to Troon….!! Lol, Gareth Honer and Pip worked their socks off in the middle of the park, with Gareth getting forward and creating chances for the forwards as often as he could. Ashley No Name Smeeth continued to work hard on the right, and even moved into the middle to pull the strings for a few minutes, and was looking although he had been at the club, playing senior football for years. Leigh Isaac’s had little to do in Troons goal, except one free kick which he positioned himself for and had no troubles with, he came out of the goal when needed, and was a steady as a rock in the nets.

So 1-0 was the final score, and great start for a newly established team, in which we had only 2 players, out of 15 who finished last season with the club, who says money doesn’t talk hey….??!!! Lol, like I’ve already stated, Grampound were a credit to themselves, playing some great football, they even gave a chance to some of new lads, including a young lad upfront, number 18, its great to see football clubs giving a chance to all kinds of players, even in men’s football.

Good luck to Grampound FC for the forth-coming season. A special thanks to the Rusty and Denise Marles, and Jason "tit" for helping out on the day, and ever present Malcolm Faull refereeing the reserve game, marking the pitches, and doing a great job at the club.

All 3 teams at Troon train on Tuesdays at 18:30 up the pitches, of you fancy joining an up and coming club, who have 2 junior teams, and one in the Combination then come on up, and see how it goes. We are a welcoming club and we will greet you into the teams with open arms. if you would like to know anything else about Troon AFC then PM me of text/ring me on 07896973085. Aslo i must add the ref was outstanding, and a credit to the national game......!
