Penzance Reserves 4-2 Perranwell

It’s surprising when the back four have confidence in the man between the uprights and a couple of first teamers are included in your squad. After some abject displays the last few games Penzance were a totally different side tonight and a slightly weakened Perranwell bore the brunt of weeks of frustration.

Penzance kick off facing the entrance end of the ground and for the first few minutes the match is spent around the Penzance box before starting to open up.

The first action results in a goal for the home side. On 14mins the Magpies have a thrown on their right. It is thrown to James Miller in the box who whilst facing away from goal, turns his defender one way, then the other before turning and knocking a low shot under Perranwell keeper Paul Williams.

The next 15mins the game becomes end to end with Perranwell having a succession of corners. On one break they get down to the goal line before the weighted cross seems to avoid all their strikers.

Penzance break one on one. The keeper comes out, the shot comes in and he somehow saves with his legs whilst diving for the ball. Ashley Thomas has a strike from the right which bounces of the top of the post.

On the half hour Perranwell get a deserved equaliser. A cross pitch ball, left to right, Adam Barnicoat runs onto it, into the box and scores with a low cross goal shot. 1-1 after 30mins.

The half runs out of steam and there are now more chance for either team in the half.

The second half is only four minutes old when we witness one of the best cross field balls seen at Penlee Park all season. Ryan Holland from his own half knocks a long ball left to right to Thomas, right onto his boot. Thomas runs down the right, crosses in for Gerran James to head in from 6yds out. 2-1 on 47mins.

Perranwell have a corner on the right. The ball is swung over but a strong cross goal header goes just wide.

After seeing a brilliant cross field ball we see a great one handed save from Williams. Penzance work down the left, cross in, Miller shoots from close range only to see Williams make a great leaping one handed save to palm the ball away for a corner.

55mins Penzance go 3-1 up. From a corner on the left the ball comes over. It ping-pongs from player to player before Jamie Devine knocks it in cross goal from 6yds out.

Another Penzance break with Thomas on the right. He runs into the box but skims the outside of the post with a cross goal shot.

72mins Penzance score their fourth. Once again they break right, cross square to the edge of the box for Bradley Wills to show some neat footwork before firing in a low shot under the keeper.

Perranwell get a goal back when they retain possession inside the Penzance half knocking the ball about before a through ball sees Tom Phillips fire in a low shot from the edge of the box. 4-2 after 77mins.

Max Davies of Penzance gets the ball before running 70yds down the wing before squaring it to Lewis Caspall. He runs forward 20yds but shoots over the top.
