Man City goalkeepers

Seems like Man City are trying very hard to worm their way out of the goalkeeping 'crisis' that has struck them after Shay Given' injury at the weekend.

Why should Man City be given the chance to bring in an emergency loan when I'm sure they have academy goalkeepers at the club that should provide cover for the Faroe Islands international Gunner Nielson! I'm sure the bigwigs at the Premier League will buckle under the pressure though and give Man City whatever they ask for!

As they would for any club in that situation. GK is a special position, it would happen in any comp, even the WC. You seem very worried about getting the 4th place!

I beg to differ, GK is no more specialised than other positions on the pitch. Anybody can play in goal, it's just that some are better at it than others, just like every other position on the pitch.

Last season, during Dec 2008, Everton had no strikers available and had to play with Tim Cahill or Felliani up front, did they get an emergency loan until Jan 2009 (when the transfer window opened) to bring a forward in... No! Earlier this season, when Man Utd had mssive injuries to their defence, and I believe went to Fulham with the centre half pairing of Michael Carrick & Darren Fletcher, did they ask for an emergency loan to get a defender to cover the injuries.... No!

What I'm saying, Man City have an international goalkeeper available, as well 2 Academy goalkeepers available to act as cover on the bench, they're not exactly devoid of all goalkeepers at the club, so they should just suck it up and get on with it!

I dont think they would even in the World Cup. If they do why dont we just take 2 in the squad, take another outfield player and if one of the GK get injured then appeal?

Surely every professional club should have a backup they can depend on.

The WC squads were increased from 22 to 23 to allow each team to take 3 GKs. But, I maintain, if all 3 were injured FIFA would allow an emergency GK into the squad because it is a specialist position. Outfield players are outfield players and generally are adaptable.

Yes, lots of clubs have spells when they are devoid of strikers or centre-backs or whatever but that is the nature of the game and if you are unlucky with injuries it can harm your season.

Man City still have 9 keepers registered at the club! Hardly a shortage! They decided to loan out Hart, but they also decided not to attempt to sort this when there regular no. 2, Taylor, got injured. Did Chelsea whine abou about it when Cech then Hilario were injured? Did United moan when left with no defenders? Did Liverpool moan when Torres is injured and they have no cover? (Oh no sorry that Rafas fault)Citeh made there bed and should be made to lay in it, yes its unlucky but thats the way the cookie crumbles. The league are making a rod for their own back if they allow Fulop to go there!

We all hope they fail to finish 4th but not for the lack of a GK. You do realise that 4th only gets you to Q3 of the CL and that you actually have to beat another team to get to the last 32 (CL Group stages). I believe it was Everton that fell at that hurdle a few years ago.
