Penzance Reserves 0-3 St Ives Town

St Ives came to Penlee Park with one thing on their mind to totally disrupt the way the Magpies play. From the off they were “In Your Face” not letting Penzance settle or play their passing game. They gave away 19 free kicks for continuous minor infringements breaking up the rhythm of play. Penzance had a couple of players missing but they should have coped with Town.

St Ives kick-off and get a free kick on the left. The ball comes over, there’s a flick header and Dexter King has to get down at his near post to push the ball away for a corner.

Ashley Thomas has a shot that flies just over following a free kick on the Penzance left.

A through ball to Lewis Caspall on the right sees him run into the box. He tries a low shot that has the keeper scrambling at his near post forcing the ball away for a corner.

Another Penzance break with Dominic Clements this time sees him down on the edge of the box where he crosses for Max Davies whose flicked header goes just over.

Penzance get another free kick, 30yds out. Thomas fires under the wall and the Town keeper dives to push the ball away for a corner.

A St Ives corner results in a strong downward header that drops into King’s arms.

Another Magpies free kick on the right is knocked to the far post. Steve Hancock fires in but the ball is cleared off the line.

The second half is only a couple of minutes old when St Ives score their first. They get a free kick on the half way line on their left. The ball is knocked long, a flick on head sees King palm it away only for Jack Hughes to lob the ball over the stranded keeper. 47mins 0-1.

Another two minutes pass and St Ives are awarded a penalty. They break left into the box and their forward is bundled over. Ref points to the spot. Chris Lock steps up and sends the keeper the wrong way. 49mins 0-2.

Another St Ives break sees the ball cleared off the Penzance goal line twice.

Penzance have another free kick on the right. The ball is knocked in, a shot but the ball bounces off the keeper’s knee and away. He didn’t know a thing about it.

The final action of the game goes to St Ives who get their third when they break into the box to the goal line, lay it off for Ross Duncan to knock in. 87mins 0-3.
