Dave Deacon
Some of the biggest winning margins:- 7-1 Falmouth Town v St Blazey 1961/62 and would you believe it that in the season in question these two sides finished up champions and runners-up in the SWL! 6-1 Truro City v Newquay 1969/70 and St Austell v Looe 1971/72 5-0 Falmouth Town v Liskeard Athletic 1975/76 4-0 St Blazey v Porthleven (Replay) 2001/01 4-1 Truro City v Bodmin Town 2005/

Guest mariner
It didnt seem like alot where there at a guess i would say around the 200 mark but i could be completely wrong
Dave Deacon
It's always difficult to judge as people come and go during the afternoon depending on their allegiances. However, I'm sure there were more then 200, double that surely. All I would add though is that the afternoon lacked some of the usual atmosphere. Guest mariner
I agree, it did seem flat today.
Graham Martin
I also don't know the attendance figure - but as someone who sees Treyew Road week in , week out - it was certainly higher that some may have thought. There are 220 seats just in the small seated stand alone and most of those seats were taken at some point in the afternoon. Probably another 200 in the other seated areas - the standing areas [including clubhouse and marquee] were fairly busy. My estimate for the day - around 750. Goldeneye
I think the atmosphere may have been a bit flat, (and perhaps it affected the gate as well), as most people thought the result was a foregone conclusion. I wanted Camelford to win because with no allegiance I always support the underdog, but deep down I expected Bodmin to win. If I was the Camelford manager I would have used Dave Deacon’s posting of the biggest winning margins as part of my team talk, (perhaps that was what Dave intended!) . Anyway a great achievement in reaching the final and everyone connected with the club should feel very proud.
Graham Martin
I agree about the atmosphere - plenty of 'watchers' but very little with the 'vocals'. The Finals certainly benefit with the likes of St.Blazey, Newquay or one or two others being involved.
Paul
I agree about the atmosphere - plenty of 'watchers' but very little with the 'vocals'. The Finals certainly benefit with the likes of St.Blazey, Newquay or one or two others being involved. Lets be honest, neither club has much surport to get a decent atmosphere going. Truros ground is to open to get a decent atmosphere going. You need somewhere like Newquay, St Blazey, Pz, Liskeard, Wadebridge to name a few with decent stands and grounds that arnt to open so to bring the crowd together. Was this one of the worst crowds in recent history?
Graham Martin
Paul - Agree with what you were saying - but in recent weeks there has been a new 400 seater covered stand installed at the previously 'open' County Hall end which certainly gives Treyew Road a much more enclosed football stadium feel. It feels like a 'proper' Football ground now. There are now over 1,600 seats available and covered accomodation for about 800. The accoustics are good - as a Blazey v Newquay Final would have proved....! Credit to the teams who made the final - but most will agree they are not amongst the best-supported in the County. Tony
Plenty of noise and atmosphere created last year at the final by the large St.Austell contingent behind the goal at St.Blazey despite the hideous weather throughout. You just need the right clubs in the final and that's (literally) the luck of the draw.
David Bray
Suprised no one has mentioned the match day programme which i thought was excellent.
Ken Reed
Surely the `right clubs` are the two that make it to the final on merit. Why does a team have to be well supported to make it to the final? <_<
Tom Trust
I did announce more than once that if supporters went into the covered stand when their team were kicking that way it would funnel their chanting onto the pitch and create a better atmosphere for their team, but no-one moved. St Buryan had a rowdy group in the open stand further from the clubhouse and the Camelford crowd had a good number in the covered stand along the touchline. When Nuneaton came to Truro their hundred or so "Shed Enders" created a brilliant atmosphere when Nuneaton were kicking towards the new stand. Team Rep
Absolutely right Mr Reed! Sounds like some 'sore losers' out there!! Both Bodmin and Camelford reached the final on merit and got some outstanding results along the way. Although Camelford lost 3 - 1 on the day, their supporters were second to none. Players and supporters enjoyed the day for what it was, stayed at Treyew clubhouse until 9.30 pm and then moved into town to finish off the day with a meal and some 'clubbing'. A lot of supporters arrived home by coach around midnight, reflecting on a thoroughly enjoyable day. I would also like to add that, like Mr Bray, we thought the programme was excellent as well. Thank you.
Tony
My remarks were misinterpreted I think. The "right" clubs were in the final based on the fact they got through each round to make it to the final and much of that in any season is down to the luck of the draw. The fact is that sometimes teams in the finals have large followings, sometimes relatively small. Last season at St Austell v Saltash there was a much bigger and noisier contingent from St Austell. That's no disrespect to Saltash or this seasons finalists it's just sometimes there isn't as good an atmosphere at some matches as at others - the venue can also play a part. Guest Uncle Albert
The Cornwall FA have stated that the attendance was 800 at each final, so that's not bad for four teams who would be the first to say they were not the best supported. As for the atmosphere, I thought Camelford's supporters, smartly dressed in their blue and white, were a credit to their club, as were those from Bodmin dressed in their amber and black. They were well behaved, despite some over zealous stewarding by people who seem to let power go their head when you put them in a yellow coat and give them a walkie-talkie. The final certainly lacked the 'atmosphere' of last season's final when much of the 'atmosphere' was full of alcoholic fumes supplied by a group of St Austell followers who ignored repeated requests not to drink in the ground and caused several unsavoury incidents behind the goal. If they had been at Treyew Road on Monday and had repeated similar behaviour, those stewards I talked about might well have found much more to keep them occupied. Finally, well done to Tom Trust for providing an informative announcements service throughout the day - something which was missing at the semi-final at Wadebridge where not even the teams were announced to the crowd - and to whoever produced the matchday programme, which was surely the best cup finals programme produced so far. It's a great pity the day was marred by incidents behind the scenes which involved hierarchy of Truro City FC and which has since led to the very sad resignation of Ian Anear as secretary. I respectfully suggest Truro City can ill afford to lose somebody as committed and passionate as Ian, and indeed his wife, who was always welcoming. You cant keep losing good people and think you can succeed. I do fear for the long term future of Truro City.
Tom Trust
Thank you, Uncle Albert. I try to tell people what I would want to know as a spectator. (I'm not allowed to 'announce' yellow and red cards like they do at Pirates' games - football etiquette, I think. It doesn't happen anywhere in football that I know of but I think the F.A. should make it compulsory.) It is enjoyable trying to build up a relationship with the crowd - a bit like my Radio Cornwall days, except much more in my face! I thought both games were very entertaining. The Senior Cup was almost like a scripted event, with Camelford pulling one back and forcing the pace for a bit: cracking stuff!

Guest Uncle Albert
Dave, I think Easter Monday was probably the straw which broke the camel's back. The final straw, if you like. Mr Anear is too nice a man to say anything, and he has Truro City FC very much in his heart.
