Newquay 5 Camelford 3

Recommended Posts

This was the second cracker of game between these two evenly matched teams in 3 days. Reg must be wondering what his team have to do to beat Newquay because in both games Camelford played very well. The Camels opened the scoring within 2 minutes when the striker followed up to score after Ryan Barnes could only parry the first shot. 3 minutes later and they were 2 up when poor defensive play allowed the striker to run past the defence and lob over Barnes. Newquay scored almost immediately when Robbo finished at the far post after Jake Hartigan's free kick was headed back across goal. Shaun Middleton then thundered a left foot shot against the bar. 15 minutes later and Middleton equalised when a corner was not cleared and he stabbed past Colwill in goal. on the half hour and Newquay took the lead when a fast counter attack saw Paul Hampshire play a delightful pass to Sam Hunter to score with the aid of a deflaction. Half time came and we all drew breathe for 15 minutes. However immediately from the kick off a thunderbolt of a shot from a Camel player hit the underside of the bar and came out. Barnes then made a terrific left handed save as the ball curled in towards the far post. Barnes then made an acrobatic push over the bar from a free kick. Newquay scored again from the best move of the game and another fast counter attack. Orrin Crowle picked the ball up in his own half and carried it 40 yards before hitting a pin point pass to Roibbo who expertly laid the ball off for Middleton to hit an unstoppable right foot half volley from 25 yards. The Camels reduced the deficit to one straight from the kick off with a severe shot from the edge of the area. barnes then made 2 identical saves pushing the ball over the bar in the space of 30 seconds. The scoring was completed when a perfectly timed through ball by Jodie Dean released Robbo, who rounded the keeper but the from an accute angle and still outside the area, placed his shot inside the post. we all drew breathe for a second time as the ref blew his whistle. Phew!

was a fantastic game to be part of, both games between the two teams have been great games to watch for the fans, shame we have conceeded such soft goals in both games, we do have to react a bit quicker to the loose ball, credit to newquay who showed great composure as some of their finishing was sublime, all in all two games that have been great adverts for the peninsula league, looking forward to the home game against newquay later on in the season, like someone said in the bar afterwards, could have been 8-8!!
