Penzance Reserves 3-3 St Agnes

The last quarter of this game had both sets of supporters on the edge of their seats. Could Penzance hold on for their first win of the season of could St Agnes take something back to Enys Park. With twenty minutes to go Penzance were 3-1 and holding but once again they started playing long ball instead of passing and holding on to it but in the end St Agnes equalised with 92mins on the clock.

For Penzance, two points dropped rather than one gained.

St Agnes get the first shot in on goal after a couple of minutes but the game is only 5mins old when Penzance go in front. They work the ball across the middle of the park to the left where Max Davis speeds into the box and fires under the keeper from 15yds out. A good start, 1-0 after 5mins.

For the next twenty or so minutes St Agnes have the upper hand and better chances. They break towards the right hand corner with Tom Benny, who manages to turn and blast one from 25yds forcing Penzance keeper Craig Nicholls to make a two-handed clearance for a corner.

More pressure follows. Nicholls has to save point blank from a shot, a goal bound header is cleared off the line, and luckily for the Magpies from a free kick on the right to the near post a flick just spins over the bar.

After some backs to the wall defending, Penzance finally crack on 26mins. A through ball and Benny is one-on-one with the advancing Nicholls. A clever little lob sees the ball nestling in the back of the net. To be truthful a well deserved equaliser.

The goal sparks Penzance into life. A Ryan Holland shot is fired over the bar but on the half hour Penzance get their noses in front again. A cross pitch ball to the left to davis, who then takes it half the length of the pitch to the edge of the box. He crosses and Steve Hancock volleys in at the back post.

St Agnes break, Penzance stop claiming off-side, a low shot is pushed away for a corner by Nicholls. Penzance guilty of no playing the whistle.

Thomas fires in a screamer from 35yds that the St Agnes keeper grabs at the second attempt. Joe Day runs onto a high ball which the St Agnes keeper heads away. Joe tries a backwards scissors kick that floats wide.

Both keepers have to make good save from close range shots just before half-time.

H-T

Strait from the restart Penzance increase their lead. A cross pitch ball into the box fools the keeper and Holland has a simple tap in from 4yds out. 3-1 after 46mins

After that the game quietens down with both teams cancelling each other out. Penzance get one chance when the St Agnes keeper has to punch clear a shot following a cross pitch ball. The rebound is fired in just wide of the upright.

On 72mins, St Agnes’ fightback starts. Benny runs through from mid-field, rounds the keeper and taps into an empty net, 3-2.

Penzance are now on the back foot, kicking long. Holland is booked for dissent as he is fouled in St Agnes box and everyone, crowd and players see it apart from the ref. Penzance’s Adam Fletcher shoots just wide.

Then into injury time St Agnes get a corner on the right. The ball comes in, a bit a bouncing around and Benny forces it over from close range. 3-3 after 90+2mins.

Penzance – Craig Nicholls, Ashley Thomas, Tom Hosking, Ryan Holland, Steve Hancock, Mark Vercesi, Joe Day, Max Davis, James Street, Liam Devine, Andre Otto

Subs – Adam Fletcher (Davis), Wayne Edwards (Vercesi), Jimmy England, Kieran Brownfield, Charlie Penny

Corners – Penzance 0-10 St Agnes (0-6 1st half)

Crowd - 64

1 point gained for us in the end but after all the chances we had, we felt a point was the least we deserved! Once again Nicks has a great game against us!! same every bloody year!!

Referee had a decent game with decision making I thought, but the abuse he took and the effing and jeffing that he let go was unbelievable, especially after he said about it before the game in the changing room!!

Some strike by Ryan to hit our lino when he was pissed off at one decision! another referee may well have sent him off!!

we said the same Hayd, but I didnt' think he was that bad really. But the language was terrible!! some lads on the PZ side have got some proper issues!! mind you, some of us were bad as well.

Good side though they had, not sure how many differences from Saturday! if it wasn't for Nicks, we'd have won though!!

I totally agree with the swearing and i'm a Pz supporter. That lucky shot that hit the lino was uncalled for, however funny it seemed :D . Some of the players had a real fustrated temper in the game - Ryan Holland and Tom Hosking, but i don't blame them, we (pz) had too many chances but kept missing. We have the right ingredients but cannot seem to get it to work just right! Good luck to both respective teams!
