Can anybody answer the question, why senior players can not play Sunday football.

Still want to keep playing Peninsula league football but work commitments mean now and again i miss football for a week or two and thought it might be an idea to play Sunday mornings with some mates to keep the legs going, when i cant play saturdays. But apparantly only Junior players can play, is this correct.

There is a bit of info about this under the Sunday league forum. Basically ( and for want of better wording ), it's to keep the league at a certain standard so everyone who plays can enjoy their football. The onus of the league is to be 'friendly' and I for one enjoyed playing in it a few years back. 'Oldasitgets' will have the official word if he sees this topic.

The Sunday Leagues are designated "Junior" leagues by the Cornwall County Football Association Ltd.

Their rules do not allow senior players to play in "Junior" competitions.

The aim is to ensure that the teams have a reasonable chance of being evenly matched. In general, it works.

In the "olden days" the West Cornwall Sunday League had a rule that allowed two senior players in a team. It was quite effective at raising the standards and, if all the teams could find their two seniors, didn't mess up the games too much. (I used to get to mark Rappo twice a year.)

One year, the CCFA actually read the League Rules that were submitted each year and declared that this rule was not allowed.

It always has been a difficult rule to understand and enforce and has caused many problems over the years. The bit that does work is the prevention of top players just turning up to have a bit of fun scoring shedloads of goals against teams made up of pub players with a hangover.

I don't like the mechanics of the County Rule and have, in the past proposed changes which, as far as I can tell, have not been considered by the County Rules Committee.

When Leagues were obliged to adopt the "Standard" set of Rules from the F.A., the Junior/Senior question was suggested to be dealt with using a time frame. So, for example, a player would be a "Senior" player for a month from his last Senior game. Much easier to understand and administer than the County Rule - and much more realistic. However, the CCFA decided to stick with their version, possibly created about the time that hacking the opponents' shins was outlawed.

Hope this helps.

Well that about clears that one up then. Thanks for the detailed reply oldasitgets.

Remember playing Sundays years ago for Castaways, good times. Then back to Clinton for a drink, (normally hair of the dog for most eh Wardy). Stomach would ache rest of the Sunday from the laughter.

Rappo will still be knocking them in when he`s 60, its the double jointed ankles and hips, you should see his dance moves. :drink:

Popey was one of the greats. a true gentleman. We were honoured when he wore the green shirt. He sciored a home hat-trick on his St Just debut and his 83rd minute winner against Ludgvan in a replayed game at Lafrowda Park will always be remembered as an Act of God.

Perhaps, Able Semen (sorry, my spelling again), you have litle to do but whittle your canoe. Please keep abusing yourself rather than others.

Good luck to all ex-St Just players for the coming season, wherever they play.

Yes, Sailed Down The Helford Passage, it is. Im sorry it upsets you that i still play Peninsula, in fact i played for years in the South Western League and for some big clubs like Truro, Porthleven and Newquay including FA Vase, but i make no apology for my competitive nature on the pitch, however all that know me will tell you i am far the opposite off the pitch, rather avoiding confrontation and making some good club mates over the years, like Rodneys mighty greens. Steve and particularly Neil always made me welcome. And if i had a good game, Rodney would let me walk Rolo, a privilege for any Tinner. Sorry if i dont rise to the bait but if you dislike me because i did or said something on a football pitch, then you better join the back of the queue. x
