GARY Marks has resigned as Porthleven boss after five years at Gala Parc.

Kevin Richards will replace Marks, who revealed he had become "disillusioned" with the club, whose title challenge was spectacularly ended by a run of nine league games without a win.

"I have not been happy with the way things have been going since Christmas and I thought the time was right for a change," said Marks.

"If the club could have kept their side of the bargain then I would still be there, but in the end I just thought enough was enough.

"I have built the squad from nothing over the last five years and I just feel let down by the club.

"I feel like I have been doing the job on my own since Christmas. We were in a great position to win the league, but since the turn of the year I have felt disillusioned with the way things have been going."

Porthleven were six points clear at the top of the table, before a disastrous run saw them eventually finish sixth in the table as Penzance claimed the division one west title.

"With five or six games to go I felt we were in a good position to win the league," said Marks. "But the run we had was horrendous. I think half of that was down to the club, injuries and myself after I had become despondent, and I think that shone through to the players.

"I feel disappointed that it has come to this, it was a cracking club but I feel it is now time to move on and let somebody else have a go.

"I wish them all the best in the future, but I think without a budget next season it is going to be very difficult."

Marks has revealed he already has "one or two" offers to return to management, but he is in no hurry just yet following his acrimonious exit earlier this week.

Just wanted to wish Kev well on becoming first team manager at Port. A true Porthleven man - who has done a fantastic job with the Combination League side for many seasons - especially this campaign - a season where many Reserve players have made the step up to help out the 1st team.

Having played and captained under Kev for many seasons I am sure he will bring stability and success back to the club.

Good luck Kev - see you at pre season

As per usual Mr Marks has blamed everyone for his demise. Having acheived the sum total of bugger -all in his time at the club, he blames them for his under-achievements . He has known for some time the financial situation at Port and has taken that into consideration in his continued position as manager. Now having left the club which loyally supported him, he stabs them in the back. He seems to forget that his poor man-management alienated a lot of his senior players, and that in the end was a major factor in Port's poor run as the season came to an end. The club has lost a lot of good players to other teams this season and if it had not been for the strength of the second team and using some of those players to bolster his small squad Port could well have been fighting relegation.

Just stand back a moment Mr Marks and except pointed critisism to your faults, without whining that you done your best but............................................??
