East Cornwall Schools U 15 - 1- Yeovil Schools - 1- Yeovil win on penalties Cup Final

Recommended Posts

East Cornwall Schools narrowly missed out in this excellent Cup Final game played at Mount Wise. Both teams went at it hammer and tong from the start. Tom Ellacott nearly gave E C S an ideal start but his athletic volley was tipped on to the bar by the Yeovil keeper. After 15 minutes Jack Stevens collected the ball just inside the opponents half he carried it forward and hit a fine 25 yard shot that dipped over the keeper. The game was very tight and competetive and both sides put in some good strong tackles. The second period followed a similar pattern. Half way into the second half and the Yeovil left back drove in field and was allowed to carry the ball too far and hit a fine angled drive that just beat the diving Sam Trudgian. E C S came back strongly and Jordan Copp hit a left foot free kick that the keeper spilled onto the bar. Isaac Vassell was introduced and looked lively and when Jack Stevens hit a pin point cross Vassell didn't make clean contact and the ball somehow hit the bar when it seemed easier for it to go in. With a minute to go Copp evaded several challenges but unfortunately dragged his shot wide. Extra time was played in the same competetive way but neither team could force a winner. On the night Yeovil took their penalties better than the Duchy boys but our lads were the better team and can feel very proud of their performance last night and throughout the season. A big thank you to Lee Hazeldine and Alan Yendall for the excellenet manner in which they have looked after the boys over the last two seasons.
