Barker Bowl Semi Final Result

RNAS Culdrose 4-2 Porthleven Rangers

An amazing achievement for the lads. Went along to help out today as a lot of work committments, coupled with the semi-final rules of eligibility meant that with 15 minutes until kick off we only had 9 eligible players able to play! Once again an outfield player, this time 52 year old Martin Edwards had to play in goal. With 30 seconds until kick off two lads turned up late to give us 11 to start, but no real preparation.

We went 1-0 down after 3 minutes from a corner but battled back and created a number of chances before a soft penalty allowed us back into the game. Both sides missed opportunities until we scrambled the ball home to make it 2-1 just before half time.

Rangers came out for the first 10 minutes after the break as the better side and it seemed the tie had swung in their favour when they drew level around the hour mark. For some reason though they did not take control at that point and we eventually got back into it and had our spells on top. Once we took the lead the rangers players seemed to lose heart and in all honesty the game was so open in the last 5 minutes that we could have made it more than 4, alternativley Rangers always looked like sneaking back into it.

The game was played in great spirit, two decent club linesman in Cozy and Neil Rudkin made a difference.

Reaching 2 cup finals will mean nothing if we cannot get the 6 points we need from the last 4 games to stay up. A really strange topsy turvy season in which being succesful in the cups has hit the team hard.

Good luck to Rangers in their quest for promotion and hopefully we can do them a favour by securing 3 vital points at Camborne Park this Saturday.

Culdrose deserved the win Rangers failed to play any where near their best. To be fair Culdrose could have won it by more, if their over keen forwards had held their runs a little longer. Rangers never really tested old man Martin in goal even after he showed off his volley ball training all to often.

A strange season for Culdrose to say the least Two finals and yet still fighting to avoid the drop. What ever happens Rangers wish them all the best. A good bunch of lads.

Well played and thanks Scooby the Monkey has well and truely been sent to the stands this season at least.
