  1. Well here we’re at the end of another wonderful season in the duchy premier. I’d first like to congratulate every team in the division and also duchy for their efforts throughout the season. I’d also like to say congratulations to Nanpean on their double and congratulations to Polperro on their fantastic season - hard luck in the final!

The mouthwatering tie of the day was a familiar story.. St Mawgan v foxhole. Not only was this a repeat of last years fixture but it seemed to be the two teams everyone was talking about throughout the whole season.

After a delayed start, because of the first final, St Mawgan and foxhole were now set for battle at 5:30pm. St Mawgan stole the show early on, including their youth set up as mascots for the day - a fine touch by a fine club. Now it was about what the men could deliver and if it was anything like the season then this was set for a cracking game.

The game started with a very cagey atmosphere and it was Foxhole who led the initial charge, with a very high tempo and a clear plan to close St Mawgan down quickly. Foxhole had a chance to open the scoring with Bould struck a thunderous strike into the cross bar - luckily for the opposition it bounced to safety. It was then another attack from the foxes, again it was Bould leading the charge but this time came controversy. Bould, right in-front of me may I add, took a heavy touch in the box and as he watched the ball go out for what would have been a goal kick he swung his leg in the way of on rushing ‘keeper (Cole) - cries of a penalty from foxhole were greeted with the refs whistle, initially I expected a yellow card for Bould for his theatrical fall but it was a penalty and a huge moment in the Match. Bould stepped up and went from hero to zero in a matter of seconds as his penalty landed back in foxhole - a big chance wasted for the league champions.

After this it was a half of few chances until Bicknell (alex) was slid in by his teammate and hit his shot straight at Bullen who was rarely called upon in the opening 45 minutes.

Both teams would be content with being in the game still at half time before the game kicked off and this is how it was coming out for the second half.

Now it was St Mawgan who led the charge in search of a goal. St Mawgan were now enforcing their own game plan as they pinned foxhole back and battled the harder of the two teams. Eventually after a lot of hard work the moment came.. duchy leagues player of the season (in my and a lot of people’s opinion it appears) found himself on the end of a Jayne pull back and he made no mistake in sending the St Mawgan crowd to cloud nine with his 39th goal of a remarkable season.

The game had now changed. Foxhole became desperate and stopped doing the things they did well for long periods of the game and suddenly could feel the final slipping away from them for the second time in two weeks. It only took 6 minutes after the first goal for St Mawgan to score again, this time it was Jayne himself who found himself in a crossing position on the left and whipped the Ball into the far corner to add to St Mawgan cup hopes.

It was a strange last 10 minutes as foxhole never looked to really push on - maybe because of the well drilled Mawgan defence. With nine minutes to go Bould was in the action again, and again for reasons he’d rather not have been. He fouled the keeper and then talked himself into the sin bin, a disappointing final for a player that couldn’t quite fill the boots of their main man griffin.

St Mawgan were victorious and could begin to celebrate their first ever major trophy for their first team in the history of the club. Well played to both sides and congratulations to St Mawgan who deserved at least one trophy this season.

Well done to the league and the officials for doing a fantastic job all season.

  2. Fantastic semi final last night between two good sides. It has ended up being the two favourites in the final but didn’t Bodmin and veryan put up a fight!

Bomdin were seconds away from a lottery shoot out against St Mawgan and foxhole held on to a single (brilliant) goal to beat Veryan.

The Game started very fast and it wasn’t long before Griffin used his pace to beat the defender and earn his team a penalty, unfortunately for them Bould missed the resulting spot kick, nevertheless he made up for it with one of the best goals I’ve seen in duchy football this season.

Veryan pressed hard and almost got their reward from a corner - rattling the crossbar from a flicked header. Foxhole denfended really well and stopped Veryan from getting one back before half time.

The second half was a half short of chances, foxhole creating the better ones and hitting the post. Veryan had half chances but Whetters stopped the flow to most attacks.

Then came the talking point, with minutes to go Griffin was given a straight red, from where I was stood he pressured the ball and as the ball was gone he did jump with his feet raised, this always runs the risk of a red card for dangerous play and credit to the linesman (all three officials were brilliant on the day I thought) for sticking with his decision and after speaking to the Ref it was deemed dangerous. With the suspension to be released in 7 days it does mean Griffin is able to feature for foxhole in the junior cup final (this Sunday at hayle), but it looks like his three game suspension will see him out for the rest of the season. Foxhole will feel it’s harsh and so will Griffin but without these officials we wouldn’t have football anywhere.

Cracking game and a cracking final coming!

I dont know why people are moaning about 1 player coming in to play for foxhole. Yes foxhole have players playing below there standard. But they got lee in as manager to bring the good times back to the club . They went through hard times they brought back stability with 2 teams now they are in the position to push on and get promoted. Wheres the harm in that? Surely its good to see a club like foxhole doing well. They are in the position to bring senior football back to the club with managers that know the right players to keep the club there.

Good luck to them. Going to be interesting when they play st mawgan again both tean the best un the league

The problem is for foxhole they have been competing against St Mawgan since the first kick this season, they probably expected to bring lee in, few back handers to players and not get troubled by anyone. Now they’re realising there’s an actually genuine duchy side that have outplayed them in both games this season (potentially two more games to come yet) and foxhole are now worried if they don’t have these senior players they will be in trouble. Having been around to all the grounds in the premier this season you always hear ‘foxhole are a fantastic side but half their players come from everywhere else’ whereas when you hear them talk about St Mawgan they say nothing but what a good side they’re.. that’s the difference for me, a real duchy side that have built up over years to challenge in this league.

I’m not a fan of being able to cross sign for different clubs. I think if you sign on for st dennis then you sign on for the club (Junior and senior) that way it stops people like Martin Giles making one off appearances for a club he has no interest in, only what colour the money is.

Be interesting to see what side foxhole have on April 13th..

This is going down to the wire in my opinion.

You were absolutely spot on. Last night was 2 young, quick teams playing football. Tonight was 2 experienced physical teams, not the same football played but I would still fancy Foxhole to win the final.

Foxhole were in charge throughout, didn't create too many chances, but when they did the Illogan skipper in goal was more than a match. Illogan didn't have the pace to cause Foxhole many problems on the break & it was Foxhole who took the lead when the number 9 Griff?, who had ran himself into the ground as well as being a bit of a nutter at times, got in on goal & made no mistake lashing the ball into the top corner. Illogan created their 3 best chances all in the last 5 mins, including an air shot from 6 yards a couple of seconds before the final whistle.

Over Foxhole well deserved winners but credit to Illogan who worked their socks off & didn't allow the duchy prem side  to have anything easy all night.

Thought there was a real anti climax to the fixture. Both teams looked nervy and failed to produce the football they’re capable of most weekends - granted it was a big game. Foxhole went too long and got frustrated and were helped by a questionable offside goal - nevertheless deserved a goal and the win. Illogan worked tirelessly in defensive but almost seemed to forget they were chasing the game and never ever looked like scoring or attacking foxhole, who’s centre backs couldn’t have hoped for an easier game.

Foxhole looking favourites for the cup as many predicted but far from convincing in the last two rounds. I think mousehole could give them a game if they’re not in the mood on the day!

Name the ringers then Callum kenny would of been 8 0 then and u can only play 2 senior players . Looking forward to see ur team full of ringers 😴 😴 😴 🛎 end

I understand where teams are coming from. I’ve watched you many times this season - fantastic team - my only problem is I dont recognise 2/3/4 of your players everyweeek because usually they play their football in different shirts for different teams.. senior ones usually.

Dont take anything away, you’ve had a fantastic season so far, but just from one example.. I watched you play St Mawgan in the junior cup and you had two senior players that day (one of which never plays for you according to Fa full time) the following week they weren’t there and haven’t featured since.. that is called bringing in ringers. (Don’t be disheartened guys, they still weren’t the best team even with these players).

On Saturday I watched the first half and yes.. it was your usual side.. but again there appeared to be another senior player making his first appearance.. what do you guys get out of that? You have fantastic players sat on the bench and you’re going well in league and cup, just believe in your own squad rather than relying on senior teams to get you through the season - I’d be  odd if they were taking my place! (14 players making no more than 2 appearances this season!)

Don’t get me wrong, I watched the first half and it could have been 9-0 in one half without the seniors, but if you want to be a great duchy team then play with duchy players in my opinion.

Anyone know what mark Paul was given by the clubs?

I can’t imagine St Mawgan rated him higher than 30! Foxhole - 130 perhaps

With sticker not being in any sort of tussle for trophies this season, I’ve been driving around to grounds and watching games. I was waiting for this tie and I’m waiting again for next week, I just don’t want to see the same ref make the same mistakes and ruin the same game.. as does everyone else. Take him out of the lime light and that’s fair for all parties in my opinion

  7. Now, I don’t care who referees, doesn’t affect me in the slightest. But, as you can see from this thread dave, I’m not the only one who thought Paul buscombe didn’t have his finest day yesterday - top ref on his day, I’m not debating that. Surely after what’s happened this week he should be taken away from these sides this weekend? Just imagine the uproar if he was to do the same again..

So the obvious game to go and watch this week was St. Mawgan vs Foxhole and my god, it did not disappoint. I’ll give a quick roundup in an honest and neutral form unlike the report that I’ve just read further up this forum.

Mawgan started quicker playing downhill and the right back finished well to put his side into a deserved lead. Against the run of play, foxhole got back into from some sloppy defending, allowing a good cross which Griffin finished superbly. Shortly after, Mawgan whipped in a free kick which was volleyed home to put the home side into a deserved lead at half time; it could have been more however as the keeper pulled off a fine couples saved from long efforts from the Mawgan boys.

Foxhole played downhill now and it was all how they could respond with conditions in their favour, now this is where the game completely changed. The referee, I’ve said before I hate moaning about refs but anybody at that ground, including foxholes contingent, I hasten to add, knew that this was an awful performance. The ball gets crossed into the Mawgan area and with one of the most blatant pushes in the back of the defender you’re ever likely to see resulted in a handball and a penalty. Everyone stood around was laughing at the referee. What a shocker. Rumours that he lives in foxhole were seeming true by this point... the pen was unjustly scored. The rest of the half sort of played out with no real excitement going on as Mawgan defended well against the not-so-sharp front foxhole line.

    Extra time.

First half goes by with again no real issue.

second half and you won’t believe what happens now. With minutes remaining and the dreaded (for players) penalty shootout looming, the referee has only what can be described as ‘blonde moment’ as the foxhole striker (think it was that griff bloke but hard to tell) is hunting down the Mawgan centre back who’s running towards his own goal, the Mawgan keeper comes out and misses the ball!! But then with everyone waiting for the CB to clear the ball, the striker just throws him to the ground (completely ignoring the 2 fouls prior to this particular moment) in what would only be seen in a wrestling ring! The crowd laughed again waiting for the free kick to be given but no... brain fart...for mr referee! Gives the goal without consulting the linesman who was waving furiously! Amazing scenes for the neutral but some truly horrific refereeing on display. I feel oh so sorry for the home side as they never deserved to lose this game but foxhole, you take what you can and good luck to them, I’ll be waiting for the next round draw and will be watching foxhole wherever they go ( in hope of some more drama! )

oh god, referee, what have you done...

First thing that needs to be said said, what an advert for duchy football. Two of the strongest outfits I’ve seen play in this league for a long long time and they didn’t disappoint.

In terms of the football, I didn’t know what to expect, but I expected goals and for the foxhole keeper that would have been the case. Mawgan were possessed for the first 30 minutes and made this brilliant foxhole side look like they had never kicked a ball before. Mawgan got their well deserved lead and it appeared that their running and class was too much for foxhole at this point. Then, the game changed. Two bits of class, the cross and the finish.. now that’s why foxhole can boast that they’re the top side in duchy football currently, they has created nothing and suddenly we’re back in the game.

The first half looked like we’d be going in level, but once again, Mawgan scored. One of the centre backs (who were brilliant for 120minutes) scoring a volley from a well worked set price. This lead to Mawgan being the team in control again and just moments later and a minute before half time the keeper stopped St Mawgans striker from adding a third by tipping his effort into the the crossbar.

Now this is what I hate about football.. slagging off a referee, but there is no way anyone can talk about this game without doing that.

Foxhole knew if they could get a goal it would be hard for Mawgan, but Paul buscombe (who I must say has refereed some cracking games before) have the foxes a late Christmas present. With the centre half getting shoved from behind so much he fell over and the ball hitting his swinging arm as the result of the push, Paul buscombe pointed to the spot, which the foxhole striker calmly finished. Game on.

Giving great credit to the ever organised Mawgan side, they limited foxhole to just one shot on target the whole second half but foxhole were strong in possession and controlled proceedings until the final whistle.

Extra time was upon us and it was innivtable this would be the case with two fantastic sides.

A very solid defensive display once again from Mawgan meant that foxhole couldn’t score down the slope - I think everyone can say, it was a half where players looked tired and struggled to create.

With foxhole now going up the hill they started positively and tried getting forward, but with about 5 minutes to go, the full back that had already scored was presented with an identical chance to make it 3-2, but for what can only be described as the save of the season it remained 2-2.

Now, you guessed it, time for Paul buscombe to give foxhole their birthday present too. With what I made just over a minute left before penalties, the Ball goes up in the air, the ref is a mile away from the ball and the striker for foxhole, who is experienced and does what he needs to do by pulling the centre backs shirt and elbowing him constantly to get around him , the centre back then passes the ball pass the on rushing goalkeeper and then it because a case of knocking the ball out of play for the entire back - who was fantastic may I add - but the pulling, pushing and fighting continued from the striker, by this point the referee hadn’t even got to the half way line, and the striker tapped the Ball into an empty net.

With weird celebrations and awkward laughs and smiles around the ground, foxhole knew they could take what had just happened and run.

Overall, foxhole will progress and carry on a great season, but I think they’ll agree and any neutral watching, this is a very good St Mawgan side who will push them all the way in the other competitions. Great credit to both sides!

I hope people will understand that the referee shouldn’t be a talking point in football, but so often is, but sometimes when there is a big game like this there needs to be consideration over the appointment of the referee - inconsistent and not one, but two awful mistakes which even the foxhole supporters were keen to admit.

Good luck foxhole, I’m sure duchy are behind you and I will be there to watch in the semis!

    Sticker AFC 1-1 Torpoint Athletic

    Torpoint XI: M.Westall, C.Westall, T.Copp, D.Rogers, A.Brayson, L.Gibbons, J.Robertson, T.Rowe, C.Bays, W.Ferguson, Z.Rosen

    Subs used: B.Robbins, J.Hill, A.Richardson

    Scorer: Z.Rosen

One of the few games on in the league. Off the back of the draw to St Mawgan, Torpoint travelled to Sticker looking to get their title challenge back on track. Early in the game, it was clear that both teams were adamant on playing as much football as they could. Sticker started the contest brighter, their No.10 was dropping into pockets all over the midfield and dictating the play. Torpoint made a few minor adjustments and soon took control of the possession and the game. The first chance of the game fell to Rosen after a neat through ball, he was unable to hit the target as his effort went wide. He soon made up for it those as a through ball from Westall wasn't dealt with by the hosts CB as Rosen hassled the ball away and slotted home from 12yrds. Sticker created chances of their own but the were unable to force Westall into any strenuous activity.

With the second half came the rain and hail. For the opening 15mins, Torpoint utilised Robbins' hold up play to keep control of their 1-0 scoreline. From the 60min however was all Sticker. They continually created chance and chance with Westall keeping Torpoint in the lead with 4 or 5 key saves. Sticker were awarded a penalty on the 80th minute after their young striker was fouled inside the area. Man of the match, No.10 was unable to find the net or target with his strike as he dragged it wide. Most sides would've been disheartened by this, especially being so young, but not Sticker. Their perseverance showed as a clipped ball was taken down superbly by the striker and with his second touch his slipped the ball past Westall and potentially ended Torpoint's title hopes.

Another frustrating week for us as we were unable to put the game away when we were on top, an all to familiar story this year. I was, however, massively impressed with Sticker. They reminded me of my young Torpoint side a few years back. They will trouble a lot of sides with their quality but will see frustration some weeks with the learning that comes with being so young. I really hope they take the step up soon, top club with top facilities and moving in the right direction. Their gaffa is full of passion for the side and I just hope the lads stay and appreciate his efforts.

I was also at the game on Saturday, fantastic report and I couldn’t agree more. A draw was the fair result, unfortunately didn’t help either team with there ambitions of climbing the table but a great advert for duchy football.

How do you see the title panning out Roy and gibbons? 2 or 3 horse face? Who do you fancy?

Well done again on a great report.

Favourites have to be foxhole and it would be nice for the trophy to make the short trip up the road.

I’ve agreed with you in terms of making foxhole favourites, but having watched them a few teams this season I don’t think they’re quite the team they’ve been made out to be.

Having not played torpint or St Mawgan in the league and playing a weakened sticker at home in the league, they haven’t really been tested yet. I look forward to seeing them go further and playing good teams, can’t knock them for winning the games they have so far - but definitely a team that are exposed defensively most weeks.

I chose to go and watch St. Mawgan vs Helston as well and I just agree with all that “no I in team” is saying about the game. Mawgan dominated throughout and Helston arguing amongst themselves was counter productive as you’d expect. Fantastic goal from the Mawgan no. 11 and I must mention the Helston keeper had a fine game keeping out some good strikes. It’s not often I come to the east to watch games but I was impressed with Mawgan. I think they’re good but obviously “no I in team” is shagging the manager with that glowing report. Hardly set the world on fire from what I saw. Foxhole or illogan team to beat for me although they are an aging sides with heavy players.

I am not one to moan about referees, far from it, I’ve got refereeing qualifications and I like to talk up the best refs who deserve a mention. But, unfortunately I’m the st. Mawgan game I witnessed an awful display of refereeing, completely lacked control, The centre midfielder of Helston seemed an argumentative lad and was always in the referees face but was given chance after chance and finally was booked for a cynical challenge late on after some professional fouls throughout the game. The referee obviously wasn’t interested in talking to the players, just seemed like he was threatening them with sin bins etc. 50% of decisions were clearly wrong and actually as a spectator, I ended watching him more than the game! Very comical to see how wrong he could get it. But, please, read this in detail, the most unbelievable decision I’ve witnessed in years (and I’ve been around the grounds a while), the Mawgan no. 11 had broken through from the halfway line, clean in on goal with a defender behind him making up ground on the attackers right shoulder, so 11 shifts onto his left as he got into the area and just as he was about to pull the trigger, he was straight up pulled away from it by the defender on the wrong side. Anyone with half a brain reading this is thinking ‘goal, oh no, must be a penalty and a sending off’ stone wall decision in everyone’s mind. Nope not this Referee, honestly it was comical, he must have assumed that the attacker just didn’t want to shoot so ran away ! Baffling how a referee so poor at decision making manages to get those big games.

on a lighter note, whoever the referee was, please can someone find me his name, as I would like to go and watch him again! Made my day! I’d say he was biased but he seemed annoyed when any goal went in!

I didn’t want to talk about the referee, he was very very poor and he is capable of ruining big games, as he tried yesterday. He wasn’t on either side yesterday, he wanted all the attention and that’s why I refuse to go any further with my comments - I’m not giving him the attention he craves.

Very good point, the goalkeeper for helston made some great saves to even keep this a close cup tie.

I dont know the young manager at St Mawgan. I’ve watched them play a few times and I can say they’re a real force, they played at a 5 or 6 out of 10 and still looked dominant against a trelawny prem side.

I think the cup is going east!

  13. First thing I will say is wow! There are some really good teams left in this cup and I can’t wait for the next round already.

I chose St Mawgan v Helston as my game to watch (after a tough decision not to watch the game at mawnan).

It’s not the first time I’ve watched these sides this season, but both sides were up for this cup tie from the get go. Helston, who I have seen dominate games with this calmness and physicality couldn’t quite get into the game in the opening exchanges. St Mawgan, who were the better side throughout the game, had early chances and their attackers could have put them 2/3 goals up early on. Helston then battled and battled well, which led to a comical goal and gave them a 1-0 lead. St Mawgan reacted like all good teams should, without playing their fast flowing football, they managed to get the ball down and start playing crating promising moments. St Mawgan equaliser came from the best player on ththe pitch on the day, Morrison (who any junior team would be lucky to have) had levelled the tie at 1-1. Mawgan then spun the tie around when another player full of quality scored a goal worthy of putting Mawgan ahead (2-1) and this then gave Mawgan the lead at half time.

After the break helston were going down the hill and they started the second half by putting st Mawgan under pressure, which was dealt with well by the back line. Helston showed good moments but struggled to get anything on the St Mawgan goal, a tale of the game for them unfortunately. The tie got heated with big tackles and a lot of heated arguments off the Ball, at this point I could see the tie slipping away from helston as St Mawgan just looked more composed and knew what was needed to win this tie.

Right at the end, st Mawgans striker, who deserved a goal for a great display, scored a great goal and ended the tie. St Mawgan were the better side and even playing at half the ability I’ve seen them play this season, they were still too good for a good helston side.

Everyone mentioning the likes of foxhole, mousehole and illogan as the teams to watch, I can tell you from my own experience this season, you won’t want to draw St Mawgan, a well drilled side that have the makeup to go all the way in this cup.

    Hurry up the next round!

If illogan are as good as most of the West people on here are making out, id expect them to win comfortably. No disrespect to st merryn but they are probably one of the weaker teams left
