For those of you that may be interested, the Hayle pitch only slopes a maximum of 4 feet from end to end ( roughly 1:80) and slightly more from corner to corner. It was designed this way to maximise the land drainage. Over the years before we took it on the field was in Broccoli for much of its life. Hence tons of sand was spread over giving good drainage. The wind we can do nothing about, as the prevailing wind is South West it tends more often than not to blow across rather than up and down. The pitch laid as per FA preference North to South. All of the previous is why over the past 17 years we have had to call off 12 games two of which were for ice or snow.

Holmans Lino is a qualified linesman as was required in combo last season with reference to trelawney league though  it is purely a voluntary one in which any one can run the line . It’s a difficult situation when a non ref refs you win he was great you lose he was crap bit like a real ref 😳 no one wins least of all the man in the middle 😊

Agreed. There have been lots and lots of positive reports for Pz whilst on their long unbeaten run. Then they lose, but no credit to the winning side. Just a gripe! Typical football mentality. It’s very common. The best team usually wins on the day. They probably did play below par, but that is possibly due to the opposition being better.

My thoughts exactly. Can understand people's frustration at having a ref taken away late in the week, but to suggest another team may be short of numbers as an excuse to not play is seriously clutching at straws. It's WC's prerogative to agree, or in this case, not, to a volunteer referee to take charge. There was an instance last season where they agreed to an opposition manager referee the game, away from home. During the game, the home linesman flagged to disallow a goal, then the away linesman flagged later in the game and the referee ignored it, after saying earlier he had to go with his assistant!!! So I'd say they are totally within their rights to decline, even if that means extra games later in the season. Frustrating, yes, but no blame can be attached to anyone here.

And this sums up pretty much why we are short of referees!
Rock bottom of the football pyramid where players (including myself) are at the bottom of the talent pool... Like i say to everyone who bitches about referees... If you want better match officials, get better at football!
Referees have to start somewhere. It's all well and good criticising them - however it should be done in the correct manner.

    Culdrose  0-13  Goonhavern,
This was a one sided affair as the scoreline shows, but credit to Culdrose players who gave their all until the final whistle.
I'm posting on here more to praise the referee for todays game,as we had no appointed ref for today Shane Mayer offered to officiate the game which was agreed by the league and both clubs,he was brilliant, gave what he saw and made everything clear to the players and dealt with every situation in a clear and concise way.The players and managers from both sides helped by not arguing or contesting every decision and the game was just able to flow.

We are at the rock bottom level of English football, in relative terms all the players are pretty damn poor also - that's life, that's where we are.
There were 21 scheduled Duchy League games yesterday 3  of which would have had no appointed referee. A full fixture list is 28 games - where are 10 extra referees coming from?
Are we ever going to realise that it is not helpful to be slagging off referees  on a public forum?  On top of which, what good is it doing your club? Nobody reading such reports feels sorry for the team involved, it just look like they are whingeing, usually because they lost.
And finally, 'only one red card was justified' - isn't really a plus point.

I come on this site to read the reports about the local games and see who is beating who and all the topic consists of is the repetitive slagging off of the same teams and its players moving from one club to another. Am I the only one that finds it boring and childish? No wonder football is declining both on and off the pitch in Cornwall. If I was a youngster considering starting to play adult football an read this, then I would run a mile. Come on guys, lets talk about the football. Does it really matter who is playing for who and who is getting paid? Stop all the carping. I'm sure there are skeletons in everyone's closet so the holier-than-thou attitude is a little ironic!!!
Administrators - can't you do something to stop all this non football clap-trap???

There's a good support network for referees in Cornwall - one of those are regular Referee Association meetings - however they don't have many attend; at our meetings we average 13.
We can't always blame players and managers - sometimes the referees must also take into consideration the way they act as I've seen a few this season already who have bought alot on themselves by their attitudes and persona. Whilst the majority of the time it is the teams at fault, it's not all the time.
One of the biggest problems we have between player and referee is the lack of knowledge for the laws. I'd lost count of the amount of times last season I'd make a decision that I'd get correct in law, yet because this players weren't aware of it, they'd give me a hard time. Three times I pulled the lawbook out last season to show that I was correct - I got apologies after the game but the damage had already been done during the game.
The other issue we face, particularly in the Trelawny League is that it Is the league where the referees begin their careers. They have to start somewhere to learn their trade; so they will make regular mistakes, they will make some odd decisions and some won't manage games brilliantly but that is because they are only just getting the game time and experience.
One thing that certainly doesn't help recruitment and retention is the battering they get on social media - it been particularly rife this season. Not so much in this part of the forum, but certainly in the Combo and SWPL sub forums.

Wendron United Thirds 5 Newlyn Lions 0
Wendron dominated the game for the majority of the 90 however Newlyn kept going until the end. Both teams got the ball down and played some brilliant football at times. If I'm honest, we could have been into the double figures had it not been for some superb goalkeeping and some quite poor finishing 👀
I must say a massive thank you on behalf of both teams (and the League) to Premier League assistant Referee Simon Long who gave up a rare Saturday at home due to the international break to help with the shortage in the Trelawny League. It's fantastic that despite being one of the country's top assistants, he still gives back to the grassroot community. Great to have a catch up with him today. He had a very good game and was well received by both teams.

And that's exactly what it boils down to. I spoke to a number of referees yesterday to try and get them involved. Referees that were active last season but haven't done a game this season - and what you've said above is exactly what they said to me.
They get stuck during the game and then they get stuck online. Instead, two are going to watch games and the other few have other plans.
I reffed continuously over the last two seasons and thankfully, I never got hung out to dry on social media. However, I got quite a bit of grief from certain individuals last season when on their games that I actually lost the enjoyment and passion for it. That doesn't happen to often with me however, it got to the point where I wanted to have a rant at players both on the pitch and on social media... That's why I've stopped reffing!
I would class myself as a good referee who knows the laws almost verbatim. I would enforce those laws to the best of my ability but that wasn't enough for some.
Now I'm back enjoying playing with pretty much no grief at all
There will definitely be a shock next season when the Temporary Dismissal system is introduced at step 6 and 7
