  1. Byron - love your enthusiasm but your Maths isn’t your strongest subject! Congratulations to every side in the ECPL this season. Exciting times ahead with the merger next season. I for one will enjoy not having to chase players to play, wash kit, organise training, sweep changing rooms plus every thing else involved with running a club at this level and maybe, just maybe spend some time with the family for all too few weeks before we go again. Oh and just had the “excuse to end all excuses” as to being unavailable to play! One of my players is unavailable for Saturday because he’s flying to Miami to take part in a Reality TV Show…I wish I was joking!!!! Jiggy, SNEFC
  2. Probably would have taken a point at the start if you’d offered me it with key players missing through injury, work or the dreaded ‘stag do’! Our choice for our MoM also went to our keeper Ross Emery - normally a defender- but standing in for our regular stopper Nathan Prentice who was away on a lads weekend!! Good luck to North Petherwin for the rest of their season. Jiggy, St Newlyn East AFC
  3. FT Newquay Academy (?? 52) 1-4 St Newlyn East (Jackson Rochford 33, Harry Mugford 39, Owen London 56, Dan Woodgate 82) Scrappy game with some good football played at times. Good to be up against my best mate Al Lenton again in the Newquay dugout. Best of luck to Newquay for the rest of their season. Jiggy, St Newlyn East AFC
  4. Great report as always Callum. Think both teams will probably be disappointed not to win - 2 great saves from the spot from Prento for us which were key moments at that stage of the game. Owen London should have opened the scoring for us half way through the first half when he rattled the crossbar from the edge of the box with the goal at his mercy and he was frustrated in the last 10 minutes when he smashed one against the post which could have won it at the end. Great battle between Darren Hicks and our skipper Jack Thompson. Good luck in the League Cup final and many thanks for sweeping changing room. Jiggy, St Newlyn East AFC
  5. Both St Blazey and also Wadebridge have very talented and very young reserve sides that were a credit to their clubs when we played them. Shame we were bloody awful on Saturday though - can’t hit a barn door atm - and St Blazey thoroughly deserved the win. Jiggy , St Newlyn East AFC
  6. Liskeard Res 3-3 St Newlyn East Liskeard certainly started the better and enjoyed long spells of possession as we struggled to get a foothold in the game. The home side opened the scoring on 10 minutes from a direct free-kick that went through the wall and deceived our keeper. We felt slightly aggrieved as the referee insisted that Liskeard players were allowed to be part of our defensive wall provided they weren't interfering with play (we thought the law had changed to they had to be at least a metre away from the wall and not be part of it if it had more than 3 players in it - I'm sure I'll be told if this isn't the case). This seemed to spur us in to life and Dan Woodgate was unlucky not to equalise when his low shot hit a post. Woodgate did get his deserved goal 10 minutes before half time smashing home from a twelve yards. If Liskeard had the better of the first half I thought we had the better of the second and scored our second goal 5 minutes after the restart when Owen London's first shot was saved by Robathan but London reacted quickest to stab home. Liskeard equalised 10 minutes later - from another direct free-kick that mirrored the first one in every way!!!!! Woodgate again hit the post for us in the second half before restoring our lead 5 minutes later with another good finish across the keeper. He thought he had scored his hat trick minutes later only for the goal to be disallowed as he was adjudged to have been offside in the build up. Liskeard again equalised with 10 minutes remaining with a good finish in to the corner of the net. An otherwise good, competitive game played in the right spirit by both teams was marred late on when a Liskeard player was sent off for stamping on Newlyn's Russell Brooker with 2 minutes left to play. Good luck to Liskeard Res for the rest of their season. Jiggy SNEFC
  7. North Petherwin 2-0 St Newlyn East A good advert for the ECPL between two evenly matched teams on the day. North Petherwin started the brighter but Newlyn were able to hold fast and were grateful to a fine save from Nathan Prentice to stop the home side breaking the deadlock. However the breakthrough for the hosts came on the half hour mark when Newlyn’s James Turpie saw his unfortunate sliced clearance spiral up, over and away from Prentice - seemingly in slow motion - to nestle in the corner for an own goal. Both sides had further chances to score and both keepers were forced to make good saves. Newlyn thought they should have been awarded a penalty at 1-0 when Owen London was tripped in the area but the referee waived play on. North Petherwin finally made sure of the points but were only able to do so in the 92nd minute through a good header at the far post. Disappointing to lose but we wish North Petherwin well and good luck for the rest of their season and for the hospitality in The Stumble Inn after. Jiggy, SNEFC
  8. St Newlyn East v Morwenstow is OFF. Morwenstow unable to raise a team. We wish them well for the rest of their season.
  9. St Newlyn East AFC are looking to actively strengthen their ECPL squad for the coming season. Unfortunately, we are losing some key players from our current small squad before the new season who are either moving abroad for work, stepping down to play at a lower level or simply “hanging up their boots” due to old-age! We believe we have one of the best pitches locally across all leagues - especially in the East Cornwall Premier League in which we currently play. As well as having an existing talented squad that would openly welcome any new players, we have recently refurbished our changing rooms and have fantastic post-match hospitality in our local pub – The Pheasant Inn. Our players are all given free club matchday kit (tracksuit and polo shirt) and club training kit, and also - thanks to sponsorship - don’t currently ‘pay to play’! If you would like a new challenge and are interested in finding out more ahead of our pre-season, please ring our manager Martin Grigg 07494564136 or email jiggy1906@icloud.com

  12. St Newlyn East 3-0 St Cleer Newlyn were good value for their win in our last home game of the season. A first half strike from Martyn Probert separated the sides at the break but Elliot Powell and Lucas Moses should have both added to the total but missed from close range. The introduction of Dan Woodgate and Ross London at half time gave Newlyn further attacking threat and the two combined to allow London to fire high past the St Cleer keeper to double Newlyn’s advantage just 3 minutes after the re start. London should have added to his tally but showed his right foot isn’t the same as his magic wand of a left with a tame shot in to the visiting keeper’s arms who was having a fine game with some important saves. St Cleer rattled Newlyn’s crossbar with a header off a corner but the home side made sure of the win when Martyn Probert let fly from 25 yards to burst the net for Newlyn’s 3rd on 78 mins. Good luck to St Cleer for the rest of the season and their plans for the future.
  13. St Newlyn East took an early lead against Gunnislake with Ross London scoring from close range off a Lucas Moses cross after just 7 minutes. London then was sin binned on 38 minutes meaning his side had to see out the half and 3 minutes added time with just 10 men. Newlyn introduced Dan Parsonage at half time and this changed the game - though not as we had hoped. His misplaced pass allowed Gunni to break and equalise within 30 seconds of the re start and he was then dismissed for an off the ball incident leaving his side with virtually the whole half to play a man down. This was the break Gunni needed and they used the extra man advantage well scoring another 3 goals in the half including a good header from a corner and the final one a tap in on 82 mins following a comedy of errors from our defence! A game to forget for us as our own ill discipline ultimately cost us but we now look forward to our last home game of the season next week. Good luck to Gunni for the rest of their season.
  14. Good, competitive game at The Mill last night. Torpoint went ahead on 5 minutes before 18 year old Owen London equalised for us on around 18 mins. The home side added 2 more goals to lead 3-1 before the first half’s VAR incident happened when Newlyn’s Elliott Powell thought he had scored a great header only for the linesman to say his view was blocked and couldn’t see it was over the line (I blame the ECPL for its lack of goal line technology 😂😂 - even the Torpoint keeper said after it was “miles over”). The second half saw Torpoint play good football with Newlyn more than matching them. Powell then did score his goal with around 15 minutes left with a bullet header from a corner…only it was past Nathan Prentice for an own goal. Ross London scored the goal of the game with a 25 yard curling shot that nestled in the top corner on 80 mins. Great to visit a top set up like Torpoint. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.
  15. St Minver 1-0 St Newlyn East Both sides couldn’t be separated and both teams rued missed chances in the first half. The St Minver keeper did well to tip a header from Newlyn’s returning Lucas Moses over the bar. St Minver hit the post early in the second half and the home side’s goalie then produced an absolute worldie of a save to dive low to his right to tip a goal bound header from Newlyn’s MoM Owen London around the post. The one, scrappy goal that separated the two sides came on 75 mins when a soft shot at the far post found it’s way to the goal. We felt we did enough and should have at least come away with a point but the performance was back to where we want to be after we let ourselves down in our last game at Altarnun. Good luck to St Minver for the rest of the season ⚽️⚽️⚽️
  16. St Newlyn East 1-2 Altarnun Great game of football at Cargoll Rd that saw Altarnun grab a late winner! Newlyn opened the scoring after 3 minutes when right back Josh Dingle arrowed a 20 yard low drive in to the far corner. We then spurned 2 or 3 glorious chances to increase the lead - Owen London unable to score at the far post and Martyn Probert’s shot well saved - and were frustrated not to have scored more in the first 45. The second half saw Altarnun come back at Newlyn and show why they are enjoying the season they are when they equalised after 10 minutes of the re start when they broke through the middle and a lob saw Saints keeper Jordan Cole at full stretch, managing to get his finger tips to it but the ball dropped just under the cross bar and in. Altarnun were always a threat from set plays and Newlyn looked to have held on for a draw but a visitor’s corner 2 minutes from time was headed in to give them the win. Overall I felt we deserved a point - especially after the first half- but that’s football I guess. Good luck to Altarnun for the rest of the season and thanks for all coming back to enjoy the chilli & rice in The Pheasant. Jiggy, Manager SNEFC
