And here we go again - many of us had had a very long 3 months, for differing reasons and personal cost. The forum has provided some much needed distraction (especially Silly Billy and Fenman’s jokes which have been a daily chuckle) - suddenly Big Al resurfaces and after this post I won’t bother coming back on - you ruin it mate. Keep safe everyone and will look forward to seeing you all as / when football actually starts again.

Surely this is all getting a bit farcical with no guarantees as to what is happening next season.

I heard from a very reliable source that St Austell have set a wage cap for next season of £30 a game with a £5 win and £5 clean sheet bonus - to me that is reasonable, with 200 fans (£1200 income) at home games it means playing within budget - yet all these ‘loyal’ St Austell players have suddenly jumped ship, citing ‘ambition’ or its easier training in Plymouth - they have done it for cash - plain and simple. It would be nice if St Austell said (which I know won’t happen) to those players that ‘you are not welcome back as you have dumped us for cash‘.

Helston / Mousehole and Falmouth have the crowds to pay more, let alone additional financial support, however the likes of St Blazey and Bodmin are clearly paying a lot more money, yet have very very small crowds - how or more realistically why - other than individuals ego.
Covering travels costs and a few beers is surely enough for players who are supposed, at this level, to be playing football because they enjoy it - perhaps that’s why so few players seem to play with any heart anymore.

I sincerely hope the seasons gets off to a flyer but would love it even more if all clubs, did as St Austell and started capping pointless money - and see who are the best managers / coaches and not who has the most money.
Thats my rant over and I do know ‘that’s the way it’s always been’.
Good luck to Alfie, back at Sticker with his dad

WOTP - I am sure all have their own reasons and it’s not for me to criticise players making money, especially now - I just wish clubs made it clear  to players who move for money that there are consequences. The season after next many of these same players will appear on similar threads and some clubs will fork out to welcome them  and the merry go continues. Why don’t all clubs openly impose wage limits (and stick to them) at least then we could see who are ‘great’ coaches and managers - not simply the ones with most money.

100% - firstly good to see you are ‘up to’ posting again, you are in our thoughts.
Firstly, Helston is a very well founded community team with good support and even without Mr Massey appear financially on the right footing.

However, I have to agree, last season Helston were prepared to buy the league (and good on them for their ambition). But next season, whenever that may be - they will have Calver, Tinsley, Dingle, Brokenshire, Slateford, Eddy, Goldsworthy all ex St Austell (yes a couple with Helston roots and three of them regular last season) so whilst Mr Massey has deep pockets one can only assume some current players won’t be there - perhaps some of their N Devon squad? Whatever happens they will still be very very strong and will buy the season.

My only concern is that once promoted to the Western Prem - most of the players mentioned have or certainly could have played at that level but ‘chosen’ not to - for work or family reasons, no doubt - so why would they once Helston get promoted?? In reality they won’t, all the youth Helston have will play bit parts next season against weaker teams and not be ready for a league higher - so what will Helston do?? Presumably bring in players from way out of Cornwall, which if they continue to progress is a logical move - it’s just a shame that so many aspiring Cornish players will miss a couple of steps playing for a Cornish team.

Really sorry for your loss Steve, no words can be of consolation at this time. Give Smokie some extra cuddles this week mate. As the lads have said, if you need anything or anyone just give us a shout on here Steve, I’ll drive over to Newquay and get you a coffee or a shandy and talk football for an hour or two and catch up with my mate Smokie. Look after yourself and don’t be afraid to give us a shout like the gents have said, it’ll be no trouble for us mate x

Richard / Dave et al - each year you have to come on the forum making a plea to the hundreds of people who use / read the forum for the very small running costs to keep it ad free and totally independent  - and each year it’s like pulling teeth. I know money is tight for everyone at the moment with furloughs / redundancies etc and there is little football to talk about BUT there have been over 400 individual views on this link - that’s £2 each (a can of beer) for a years worth of moans and banter about the sport we all love. I know you can’t say it - but it’s pretty poor from some forum users imo

Its worth the money just for the daily jokes from  Billy and fenman.

I went to the Co-Op today and bought a pack of Stallone Scones  apparently they are the best ting since Sly's bread .
Afterwards I went to the pet shop and asked to buy 12 bees the shopkeeper said " certainly " and counted them out ,I said  " there's 13 in there I only wanted 12 , he said " the other one is a free bee "
From there I went to the pharmacy , I'd never seen the woman behind the counter in there before I said " what gets rid of Corona Virus ?" she said " ammonia cleaner " I said " I'm dreadfully sorry I thought you were the sales assistant "
Our local vicar was unwell so his wife took Donald Trumps advice and injected him with Domestos , she's now  in custody charged with  Bleach of the Priest .
Social distancing is very difficult in our village supermarket because it's so small in fact it's Lidl .
    I keep dreaming I'm a horse , I wake up in a sweat panicing , it's happened 5 nights on the trot .
I've switched all the labels on my wife's spice jars in her spice rack . She doesn't realise her Thyme is Cummin .
I went to the doctors I said " It's strange I keeping thinking I'm Mickey Mouse then I fall over " He said  " I  think you must be having Disney spells " He said " is that all ?" I said " no there is one other thing  I keep thinking I'm a goat " He said " really how long have you felt like that ? " I said since I was a kid "
My cousin has worked in Asda for years , he's worked in the fabric softener aisle  all that while but they've moved him to frozen goods . He said " I really hate it I feel out of my Comfort Zone "
He is so distressed over it he went to the doctor about the stress he was feeling . The doctor said " drink  a glass of wine after a hot bath " . My cousin said "  Jesus Christ , a glass of wine ? I'm going to struggle to drink the bath water let alone a glass of wine "
Next door has lost her job , she was a dermatologist with the NHS  she got handed her  E45 today .
Sorry I know they are pathetic .

hoppit - you are of course right and safety of everyone comes first and cannot be ignored. I think we are all just missing local football so much - and hopefully enjoy the more, once we can spectate, together, again. In that context I hope Mark Smith will do well along with any new coaches / managers taking on the reigns - it is a big step as finances and egos often dictate squads  - but I believe Mark is setting off from a good footing - he built a ‘team’ with St Austell Reserves, and from rumour is looking to do the same with the firsts - looking at players based on skill and ability - and perhaps not just ‘reputation’.  Good luck to all - and keep safe

Slightly contentious and not a personal view, but if Jeff can get away with the Vicar joke...........

Hours after the end of the world, a border dispute emerged between heaven and hell. God invited the devil for conversations to find a way to resolve this dispute quickly. Satan, the devil, proposed a soccer game between heaven and hell.
God, always fair, told the devil, "The heat must be affecting your brain, the game would be so one sided, don't you know all the 'good' players go to heaven?"
The devil, smiling, responded "Yeah, but we've got all the refs'..."
