    Million 2 vs 5 Hayle
mullion scores first early on with header from a corner Hayle soon took control with Cameron Irish scoring an overhead kick and it got better for Hayle around 35 mins on with Sean watts scoring in bottom corner form 25 yards ....it seemed the mullion goalkeeper hadn’t played football before at some moments in the game then just before half time the most bizarre goal you will see this season the Hayle goal keeper Danny ford scored from his own area going over the mullion keeper and into the net.. the Hayle defending going into the break was very good .....second half started with mullion claiming a goal but it seem like the striker kicked it out of fords hand and after consulting the lino a free kick was given...shortly after Jamie lightfoot mullions striker had a header saved by ford which any premier league keeper would of been proud off as he sprung up in the right top corner to top round the post ...Hayle defended very well in the second Half well regimented alough the Hayle right back could of walked on another day for a few tackles after he already received a yellow ....hayles midfield  were fantastic at times with Kane Williams by far the best midfielder I’ve seen in this league ....another fantastic finish from Irish late on sealed the win for 4-1 mullion did pull another goal back with ford seeming to have made another good save but crept In which received the biggest cheer after ford and the crowd had made enemies of each other through out ....just on 90 minuets Kane Williams scored a impressive goal dipping the keeper from around 35 yards ....Hayle with a full strength squad will be right up there this season and I tip them to get better with the squad togetherness the seem to have hall the best too both teams for the season

Perranwell 1 Illogan 2 - Tale of two penalty decisions, both wrong, one not given and should have been (no idea who Matt Lane has upset, but to get 0 out of 3 in 3 weeks is more than frustrating!), the other one was given but shouldn't have been, Illogan player already on the deck (slipped) when the Perran player slid in. Poor poor decisions spoiling an otherwise decent game, The Well can't buy the rub of the green right now.
On another matter, which wasn't in Combo today, but none the less appalling. I understand that a lino in the Holmans Goonhavern match was assaulted by a player. If this is true, the player should be banned from football, it's inexcusable.

For those of you that may be interested, the Hayle pitch only slopes a maximum of 4 feet from end to end ( roughly 1:80) and slightly more from corner to corner. It was designed this way to maximise the land drainage. Over the years before we took it on the field was in Broccoli for much of its life. Hence tons of sand was spread over giving good drainage. The wind we can do nothing about, as the prevailing wind is South West it tends more often than not to blow across rather than up and down. The pitch laid as per FA preference North to South. All of the previous is why over the past 17 years we have had to call off 12 games two of which were for ice or snow.

    Culdrose  0-13  Goonhavern,
This was a one sided affair as the scoreline shows, but credit to Culdrose players who gave their all until the final whistle.
I'm posting on here more to praise the referee for todays game,as we had no appointed ref for today Shane Mayer offered to officiate the game which was agreed by the league and both clubs,he was brilliant, gave what he saw and made everything clear to the players and dealt with every situation in a clear and concise way.The players and managers from both sides helped by not arguing or contesting every decision and the game was just able to flow.

The only people who really lose out are the long suffering committies that are left to pick up the pieces. Not moaning just a fact.good luck to all clubs this year, apparently we all love football. Simple fact is not enough players for the amount of clubs and if you have better facilities you will attract players easier.

All the above is right and probably more than has been said. The long serving managers should get a medal - Steve Curnow take a bow ! Up there with the best and a thoroughly nice bloke too.

There's a good support network for referees in Cornwall - one of those are regular Referee Association meetings - however they don't have many attend; at our meetings we average 13.
We can't always blame players and managers - sometimes the referees must also take into consideration the way they act as I've seen a few this season already who have bought alot on themselves by their attitudes and persona. Whilst the majority of the time it is the teams at fault, it's not all the time.
One of the biggest problems we have between player and referee is the lack of knowledge for the laws. I'd lost count of the amount of times last season I'd make a decision that I'd get correct in law, yet because this players weren't aware of it, they'd give me a hard time. Three times I pulled the lawbook out last season to show that I was correct - I got apologies after the game but the damage had already been done during the game.
The other issue we face, particularly in the Trelawny League is that it Is the league where the referees begin their careers. They have to start somewhere to learn their trade; so they will make regular mistakes, they will make some odd decisions and some won't manage games brilliantly but that is because they are only just getting the game time and experience.
One thing that certainly doesn't help recruitment and retention is the battering they get on social media - it been particularly rife this season. Not so much in this part of the forum, but certainly in the Combo and SWPL sub forums.

I think the main problem is the moaning and grumbling refs get thrown at them which is why more people aren't willing to step in and give it a go. Plus the fact that as madron manager I was under even more scrutiny as to whether or not I was favourable to my own team or not.
Luckily the game was played excellently by both teams and i think i only mucked up a couple of decisions, premier league refs do it and they are paid, so all in it was a good day all round and 20 odd lads got a game of footy.

If you want to be a manager you need to know loads of good players or be mates with. It’s no longer about being a big club, if that were the case sides like Falmouth, Newquay, Porthleven, Penzance would be regularly at the top. There are several clubs out there that rely on one person to do all of it, take them away and they lose a load of players!
The amount of phone calls that a manager had to make and even then there’s no guarantee of them turning up. Football has changed massively in the last 15-20 years.
A crazy job for anyone to undertake for no gain apart from a loss of hassle.

Been there done that wouldn't want another go now , ok if you are a top side  and can attract players but it is harder if you are a struggling team , play with my mates?  Why  if you are a good player test yourself at the highest level you possible can ,  you can always hang out with mates the rest of the week ,  players do follow managers , that is a fact of football,  it's hard attracting  players the so called better ones that a club would like to improve a team want paying ,  that is probably  the first part of a conversation , and I have spoken to several managers ex managers and money does raise its head . Managing a team is 24 hours 365 days a week , no rest  either massaging some players egos  or putting an arm around someone and trying to help support them off field . . The list is endless . It is a thankless task like all jobs running a football club . You have to have a very understanding partner to be involved in football .

With the rumours going around about joffys position.who in their right mind would want the job.finding anybody to volunteer in football is getting harder but being a manager must be the hardest job of the lot.when the game finishes on a Saturday they then start thinking about the next game and who is going to turn up.gone are the days when the same squad that turned up today will play the next game.then you have the players who leave to play with their friends.not to mention being dragged off on here for what ever reason

Back to the football Hayle lost a tight game 3-2 away to Helston , Helston started off the better and were pressing Hayle back , and took an early lead Hayle levelled with some Heslston hesitation  in the box between the keeper and the defence  and Chris Goodall  got between both and managed to head in , some more Helston pressure  but Hayle slowly got back in the game and the Helston keeper made a couple of cracking saves , half time level , second half Hayle were the better team in the early exchanges and took the lead , through Kane Williams bundling the ball , Hayle were on top but could not put the game to bed with about twenty to go Helston started to press Hayle further back and got an equaliser  , game was a bit open with both teams creating chances late on Helston scored the third and It was to late for Hayle to reply . In my opinion a draw would have been a fair result ..  but credit to Helston they  kept pressing  and took the points , good crowd ,  great facilities , and Helston so far are the best footballing side Hayle have played this season , pity about the result  but another good game of football on display .

Wendron United Thirds 5 Newlyn Lions 0
Wendron dominated the game for the majority of the 90 however Newlyn kept going until the end. Both teams got the ball down and played some brilliant football at times. If I'm honest, we could have been into the double figures had it not been for some superb goalkeeping and some quite poor finishing 👀
I must say a massive thank you on behalf of both teams (and the League) to Premier League assistant Referee Simon Long who gave up a rare Saturday at home due to the international break to help with the shortage in the Trelawny League. It's fantastic that despite being one of the country's top assistants, he still gives back to the grassroot community. Great to have a catch up with him today. He had a very good game and was well received by both teams.
