  1. St Day have submitted all promotional paperwork as this has to be done prior to the end of December. We have had a stadium accreditation visit (formally known as ground grading) and we have a few items outstanding. We have been gradually working on items such as changing rooms, public toilets, hospitality, widening the pitch, digging out so that the pitch can be lengthen by 4m this May all over the last two years. We have to put hardstanding on 3 sides, seater stand, ticket booth and floodlights. All of which have gained planning permission (some in 2021). Work is commencing on Sat 4th May with some volunteers, then it's over to pitch contractors and ground contractors to complete the rest. We will shortly be instructing a floodlight company to get them install in the near future too. Hopefully that brings the world up to date with little of St Day AFC!πŸ˜πŸ–€πŸ’›

  2. Congratulations to Matt, Mass & everybody at Helston πŸ‘βš½πŸ†πŸΎ Also, a very well done to the other Cornish teams, acquitting themselves so well in such a demanding league. A special mention to everyone at Millbrook, putting in a hell of a shift, showing real togetherness & fighting spirit to put a team out & finish the season, when nobody gave them a hope in hell! All best to Westy & Co. Let's hope they can make it 2 up from the duchy 🀞⚽

  3. 90% of Helstons 1st team plus their manager travel down from the Plymouth area ! what connection do the Helston public have with Helstons 1st team ?? Not knocking it mind, what they do is their business. Congratulations to them on winning the Western league. From our point of view at Falmouth Town we are really proud of our players and backroom staff for giving us an amazing season reaching the last 8 of the FA vase, a semi final of the CSC to play this Wednesday at St Blazey v Newquay plus a draw this Saturday will ensure we are at home for the play offs. All this wonderful football watched by the Western leagues biggest attendances, Bickland park on matchdays is electric. Our journey under Westys management has been wonderful. There have been tears and there has been joy and we've loved every minute of it and look forward to more adventures together. Roll on Wednesday evening !!!!

  4. I'm not sure how Falmouth are punching above their weight. If it's on budget them please tell me what everyone's budget is, if it's on history then Falmouth's certainly stands up against others. Falmouth are the best supported team in the Western league, which generates it's own revenue regardless of budget, they've made the last 8 of the Vase, semi finals of the senior cup, got a great youth set up, well managed, good fanbase, why shouldn't they be challenging. All credit to them for competing on all fronts, running Helston close & being a credit to Cornish football.

  5. St Dominic being crowned league champions today after a one sided 4-0 victory over St Mawgan, thanks to the league and its officials, in particular Steve Ladlow who presented the boys with the trophy. After health issues it was brilliant to see Ken Harvey back at Lovells today, a stalwart of our club πŸ’›πŸ–€

  7. Helston Athletic 1. Falmouth Town 0. Shepherd 15’. Att: 1179. Well it was Helston Athletic who came out on top of this game on Thursday at Kellaway Park played in front of a record-breaking attendance of 1179. In what was arguably the biggest league game in recent memory between two Cornish teams, especially given that it was billed as a decider for a title at step 5 level, it was Ricky Shepherd’s 15th minute goal that divided the teams and put Helston in pole position to secure the Toolstation Western League title. Falmouth opted to bring Jared Simms and Jack Webber back into their starting line-up replacing Cam Hutchison and Andy Elcock and Helston made numerous changes from their game against Barnstaple, notably Callum O’Brien replacing captain Harrison Jewell and the influential Jordan Copp starting in midfield. Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes to allow the crowd to get into the ground as the Helston staff struggled with the large numbers attending. When the game did eventually start it was fairly even initially with Helston content to allow the Falmouth defence time on the ball but defending deep to counteract the threat over the top from Oscar Massey. Particularly James Ward had lots of possession but there was a lack of forward options. The only ball on was to the feet of Massey or Rubin Wilson but the experienced central defensive pair of O’Brien and Jordan Bentley would not allow the strikers to hold the ball up and possession was often lost. Similarly, anything played any higher was won in the air by Helston. Helston then started to win some free kicks around the Falmouth box and also forced a few corners. It was from one such corner that Helston scored what proved to be the only goal of the game on 15 minutes. The corner was headed out by Falmouth to the edge of the box only to find Steve Colwill, he played it back into the goalmouth and Morgan Coxhead was unable to punch it clear, Aaron Bentley won the ensuing header and it fell to Ricky Shepherd in the 6-yard box who swivelled and struck the ball into the net. Helston continued to have the better of the game territorially, winning further free kicks in attacking areas although Falmouth had more possession. It was from these dead-balls that Helston looked the most dangerous with the aerial threat of O’Brien and the Bentley Brothers. Towards the end of the first half the game became more physical leading to a couple of bookings for Helston but, the score-line remained unchanged and Helston went in one goal to the good with Town Manager Andy Westgarth no doubt scratching his head on what was needed to change the direction of the game. The 2nd half started with no changes to either side but, Falmouth appeared to up the tempo of the game and started to look a little more dangerous. Helston on the other hand used all their experience and employed the β€œdark arts” to make sure every break in play was maximised. Similar to the defeat suffered by Town to Helston in the league cup, Helston proved a tough side to break down once they had the lead. Westgarth started to ring the changes after 14 minutes introducing Cam Hutchison for Jared Simms and Andy Elcock for Jack Webber and particularly Elcock started to make an impression with his sharp passing and great movement off the ball. Another important change came on 18 minutes with Luke Brabyn coming on for Rubin Wilson, and this posed a different problem for the Helston defence with Brabyn’s pace and ability to hold the ball up under the intense pressure from the strong centre backs. Within 25 minutes, Westgarth had put on all 5 subs with the fast-improving Kian Thomas replacing Tom Annear and Jacob Grange on for James Swan. Falmouth enjoyed their best period of the game as they pushed for an equaliser in the last quarter and twice the ball was centred from wide on the right and flashed across the goal but Falmouth were unable to get on the end of it. After around 14 minutes of added on time, caused by Helston’s reluctance to resume play at the restarts, and some injury breaks, the referee, who had a difficult game due to the importance of the match and the subsequent commitment from the players sometimes over-stepping the mark, blew the final whistle for a momentous Helston win. Helston are now firmly in the driving seat for the league title having drawn level on points with Falmouth and having a game in hand and superior goal difference. They would now have to drop 4 points at least for Falmouth to have any chance of overtaking them. Falmouth have two league games remaining against Shepton Mallett and Oldland Abbottonians and Helston are still to play Torpoint, Buckland and Clevedon. Are there any more twists and turns to come in this most exciting of finales to the Western League season? Falmouth will be hoping the answer to that is a resounding yes! Helston Athletic: Kyle Moore, Dave Barker, Jordan Bentley, Callum O’Brien, Callum Martindale, Jordan Copp, Steve Colwill, Aaron BentleyΒ©, Tom Paine, Ricky Shepherd, Curtis Damerell. Subs: Harrison Jewell, Mariko Baga, Kai Cornish, Tyler Elliott, Sam Carter. Falmouth Town: Morgan Coxhead, James Swan, James WardΒ©, Tom Annear, Bradley Leivers, Luke Barner, Jack Webber, Andreas Calleja-Stayne, Jared Sims, Oscar Massey, Rubin Wilson. Subs: Jacob Grange, Luke Brabyn, Cam Hutchison, Kian Thomas, Andy Elcock.

  9. You clearly have no idea of the efforts made by Phil and I and those in positions to support us in our arguments. If you think that we and them stand idly by and just accept the dictats you are sadly mistaken. However, when the answer 'make it happen' keeps coming back on repeat to every league in the country there's little you can do to combat that approach.

  13. Impressive second half from the Seagulls. When they get into their rhythm they are a joy to watch. I enjoyed my first visit to Trungle Parc, although ground currently surely needs upgrading should they be in Step 3 next season, as they could be. Seats in the stand uncomfortable and I thought mine might break…… I’m not THAT big and heavy!! It is, for now, not a fun experience walking along the track en-route back to the village either. I was told new stand/s imminent and, of course, the β€˜Trungle Track’ there are plans for. A further improving ground to go with a continually improving team would be fantastic. Interesting to see hear / see Jake Ash at work. He always cuts such an impressive figure. Here’s hoping Mousehole realise those play-off ambitions on Saturday!

  15. Parkway 2 W & H 2 This could prove to be a vital point for Parkway, but for most of the game I Ifelt it looked a tired team lacking in ideas, with - Dylan Jones excepted - little to offer up front. Like a lot of struggling teams failing to score goals, they started brightly enough with an acrobatic attempt by Reece Thompson and a free header that Jack Crago put wide. 20 minutes gone and PPFC haven’t scored and the confidence and energy levels slip for the next hour. 41 minutes a mixture of brilliance and catastrophic defending see the visitors in front. Josh Tobin picks the ball up in the middle of his own half, runs unchecked for 30 yards, spots Pakes hopelessly off his line and lobs him from 35+ yards. No tackle on him at any point. In the second half W & H we’re pretty comfortable. Solid but not flashy with dangerous outlets out wide. Dylan Jones, was the only offensive player who carried any guile or threat. He kept running, probling, and seeking to drag defenders out of position all afternoon. Deservedly MOTM. Overall, W & H kept their shape, defended well and on 65 minutes looked to have concluded a β€˜classic away performance’ by going two up. A low Flaherty strike was got down to well by Pakes in the home goal but luck was not on his side. His parried response was met by a smart finish from a tightish angle by Josh Powell. 82 minutes sees a lifeline for Parkway. A slide rule pass from the Jones on the left and a neat finish from Callum Hall. Game on! The crowd gets behind their boys! On 88 minutes a ball into the box’ the head of Matt Wright and Jones responds quickest to the loose ball and lashes it into the foot of the net. That old Parkway never-say-die spirit pulls a point out of nowhere. The remaining minutes were fantastic. Both teams piled forward looking for a win. Breathless stuff, but it ends at 2-2! The point gained should not disguise that Parkway are way off where they need and would hope to be. Sure, right now, they are running on empty, but even with a full tank some are just not good enough. Whilst the tactic of lumping it into the box and aiming for Wright’s head did work yesterday, it’ll not do so often. Slow ponderous forwards don’t do well at Step 3. He makes Adam Carter look speedy this fella! Thompson not good enough for this level. Crago a winger not a forward. JBE came on and did little. They need goals this week and Dylan Jones can’t come up with the goods every time. Pakes, the under rated Callum Hall, Williams, Jones, Purrington, the injured Lane and White (for experience and know-how) I’d keep for the next season….. maybe Rose and Crago too, but the rest are not good enough for SLP football. I think a change in the dugout needed too. I know Parkway fans love Hobbs, understandably due to past successes, but his limitations are obvious too. Bellowing inane nonsense from the touch line is not leadership! Even he was pretty muted until late on yesterday. As with Truro City, the fixture list has added to, and partially created, Parkway’s troubles. No competition integrity to seen in this league. Four games in eight days to finish a torrid season with points desperately needed. Unfair. No recognition of player welfare and that these players have jobs to go to. Despite all this, it is a poor side at PPFC. If they β€˜get out of jail’ this week drastic personnel surgery will be needed for Step 3. Having seen Parkway a few times this season, the swagger of old, intensity and self belief and the sense that Parkway would prevail has been entirely missing. Obviously with a β€˜Ben Seymour’ level striker they would be staying up, but the malaise goes deeper than that, IMO. What say others?

  16. Survival for Parkway would make taking the job on from Hobbs even more attractive for the likes of Cusack and Henderson. Alternatively, it could be said that Hobbs deserves another crack, having negotiated the club through a difficult season with injuries, and problems with the pitch hampering progress.

  17. Regarding Steve Massey, I'm not always certain that his managerial record at his numerous clubs stands up to scrutiny, but what cannot be denied is how much of a passionate advocate for Cornish football he's been over the last 30 years or so.

  18. Tuesday 23rd April 2024 Foxhole 0 St Blazey 1 (Newton 70) Since putting fifteen past their opponents over two weekends eighteen months ago, Foxhole have now gone three games without even scoring against St Blazey, who fully deserved their victory with an assured performance. Displaying greater mobility, stronger in the challenge and more composed on the ball, the visitors were just better throughout. The Foxes' backline, sorely missing Peers and Dingle and, within ten minutes of the start, Damerell, actually defended pretty well against a talented forward line, whose movement, pace, aggression and desire were excellent and perennially threatening. It was no real surprise therefore when Newton's free-kick out wide found the top corner, his team then seeing out time relatively comfortably although Robinson had to be alert to deny Rowe's late drive. Foxhole (4-3-3): James Prynn; Reece Davies, Zach Smith-Brokenshire, Angel Coates, Luke Damerell; Aaron Beresford, Nathan Allen, Andrew Butler; Benno Bould, Chris Kilbey, Cam Bidgood. Subs: Courtney Rowe, Dan Ball, Owen Curtis. Well played the super Foxes. Good luck to St Blazey. Many thanks to Paul Cackett and Dale Isbell.

  19. Magnificent performance tonight from parkway. After going a goal down I feared the worse but Dylan jones scored a brilliant free kick immediately and they went in 1-1. 2nd half hayes and yeading jusy seem to die off and parkway looked the stronger outfit who wanted it more . Maty wright finished off a good move for the 2nd before Thompson made it safe. great night and parkway almost safe now. you could see the relief on Lee face big result for the club.

  20. So what exactly are you suggesting should be done? The Western League, Peninsula League and St Piran Premier Divisions all come under the Leagues Committee at the FA. Strong and repeated representations were made into that body and to those who sit above it. Representations have also been made (by St Piran) through Cornwall FA to the Regional Manager who is also very supportive and is taking it forward. I have little doubt that the conversations will continue after the season is concluded as the poor communication and lack of understanding of the difficulties encountered this season must not be repeated.

The FA dictate the end date of all matches at St Piran Premier level and above, the leagues have no choice. They did move a little but only a few days. Your concerns are shared and have been fed up the FA chain by not just the leagues but also by Cornwall FA.

  30. Hi Dave Seen ur post/tweet about the pitch at St dennis, just to clarify we were waiting for the ref to call it on/off to which the grass would of been cut if on but the goal mouth was far from firm and didn't want to risk the mower or the weight of the mower unless absolutely necessary,we have a double header fixtured for Saturday so we r hoping the weather stays dry as we r forking it every day to get air to the root and to try and shift the damp. I even enquired about paying for a shock wave treatment which is Β£800 + only to be told it'll be a waste of money if its too wet as it will slump back and seal itself back up,we have tried several times with forking the pitch but as soon as we feel we r making head way we have rain and it puts us back to square one,we've taken no money since before Xmas n now have a back log of games that we really could of done without,a collapsed drain wasn't what we expected or wanted at this stage of the season. We have a lot of work to do to rectify this and we will endeavour to make sure its ready for next season.

  34. Which club has the biggest budget for players? Additionally, I would imagine that they will be competing for the same players if Parkway are relegated, as much of Helston's squad are Plymouth-based. Could create an interesting dynamic if one club outspends the other and one of them is weakened. Maybe Matt Cusack, if he had a choice, would go for the club that can provide him with the best squad. Certainly from the outside looking in, Parkway seem to have the most sustainable model.

  35. Torpoint Athletic 4 - 2 Polperro Torpoint goal scorers: Westall x2, ManuelJ, Easterbrook. Been a few days since the game now so probably hazy on some detail and chances. But if I could forget the first 60mins of our match I would because we were absolutely dreadful. Though the impetus was ours, we couldn't string 3 passes together. Polperro had a deeper backline and let us have it in spells, but when we couldn't trap a bag of cement they should have pressured us a little more. Passes to feet were wayward or miscontrolled, and any more direct route wasn't looked after either. Sam Lane and Co were more than happy to clear up our mess and punt the ball downfield, which caused us issues as Panchbhaya and the other forward were willing to chase lost causes. We did take the lead around 30mins in, with a complete fluke too. Manuel received the ball infield from the right, and his intention of finding Easterbrook towards the left hand side of the box the ball flew towards goal and clipped the crossbar on the way in. It looked like a worldy and completely undeserved. Polperro's counter brought it back level as it should have been a few mins before halftime with a nice break down the left hand side was squared into the box and tucked away. 1-1 HT. The honest HT break didn't have an immediate reaction and though the lads knew we weren't performing, it took us a while to click still. The reassuring thing was we all knew what we were capable of. But from the restart, though we showed glimpses of improvement, it was Polperro who took the lead. Another attack born from our own breakdown resulted in a long ball between our centre halves quite high up the pitch in a race with Panchbhaya, who tucked away with a good finish. I had to admit their defensive work had earned the break. We equalised not long after the hour mark, with Jimi Taylor playing a lofted yet hopeful ball into a good area over the right centre half who on the turn had to deal with Westall, who showed strength to shield him off and drive into the box, and rifled the ball inside the far post from an angle. The introduction of Cam Ross had an immediate effect and his relentless nature coupled with Westall lead the team to victory. By this point we were finding passes to feet, and the right hand side of the introduced Power and Ross gave us a huge threat. The words I'd use to describe Ross aren't suitable for the forum and Polperro got the brunt of him, including a double nutmeg on two Polperro defenders, racking up at least 3 in his cameo off the bench and 2 assists. The first a simple lay off to Westall in the middle of the park, who took the last part of the game by the scruff of the neck, powering through multiple tackles to get to the edge of the box, showed nice feet to skip through another two before firing past the visiting keeper to take the lead with 10 to play. Completely in the ascendency now we wrapped it up with Ross again the creator, beating his man again down the right and firing a lovely low cross into the back stick for Easterbrook to tap home from close range for 4-2. For 20mins we looked really dangerous but as I said above it shows what we're capable of and they're the standards we want to set. Polperro were hardy and if it wasn't for a superb save from Dicko when faced with a 1v1, it would've been far harder to get the points. With both sides only having 13 players on the day, and Polperro missing top scorer Gwillam, thankfully our subs made a huge difference. With players returning we now host Launceston on Wednesday with all our Saturday fixtures wrapped up for the season. Weds, Tues and a Weds to go, plus a TBC likely a midweek, we sit 3rd having some results go our way. 2nd-6th is very tight and plenty to play for with 4-6 games to go!

  36. Saturday 20th April 2024 Foxhole 2 (Bould pen 52, 53) Torpoint 2 (Robbins 4, Clarke 47) Once again the slow starting Foxes conceded an early goal. Prynn was penalised for handling outside the box, allowing Robbins to flight the free-kick dangerously, the ball fizzing into the net following a deflection. The gangly Clarke almost doubled the lead minutes later, but his fierce drive crashed against the bar, prompting a relieved home side to find their feet, albeit without looking over threatening. The best chance fell at the far post to Bidgood, but he was unable to convert Smith-Brokenshire's inviting centre. Rowe was brilliantly denied by Brown at full stretch immediately following the restart but, within moments, Clarke's effort crept past Prynn, again aided by a deflection. Faced yet again with having to rise from the ashes, Foxhole responded superbly with two goals inside a minute. First, Sam White felled Reed-Bennett from behind, the penalty being confidently dispatched by Bould, who then volleyed home Kilbey's excellent cross. Despite dominating the remainder of the match, they were unable to complete the comeback to leave St Minver the only winners on the day. Foxhole (4-3-3): James Prynn; Jowan Dingle, Zach Smith-Brokenshire, Angel Coates, Luke Damerell; Aaron Beresford, Nathan Allen, Lee Reed-Bennett; Benno Bould, Courtney Rowe, Cam Bidgood. Subs: Reece Davies, Chris Kilbey. Torpoint: Robin Brown, Jack White, Sam White, Sam Roberts, Byron Robbins, George Mills, Josh Babb, Zak Pearce, Nathan Franklin, Ed Clarke, Ryan Warren. Sub: Harry Chambers. Well played the super Foxes. Good luck to Torpoint. Many thanks to Rodney Campbell and the visiting lino.

  37. It is just a hobby Choppy, & players playing at the lower levels will quite happily play 3/4 games in a week, especially if they have something to play for. When I played for Porthleven in the old West Penwith league, we played 6 games in 6 days to win a cup final on the Bank holiday Monday. That included playing 2 games on the Saturday to ensure we got a day off before the final on Monday. Thats what we play the game for, because it’s our hobby. If your not committed to doing that, play something else or don’t play sport at all.

  39. Falmouth comfortably beaten by a Mallet side who out fought, out ran and out played them from the first whistle until the last. Falmouth were unable to live with Mallet skipper Jacob Sloggett who tore them apart. Falmouth offered little in response and I can only remember one shot on target which was a tame free kick from the corner of the penalty area. Falmouth who have looked so good on their visits to Somerset in recent weeks never got any control of the game and were well and truly rattled by a Mallet side who ran out deserved and comfortable winners.

  43. Watched Newquay vs Truro City Res with Newquay winning 1-0 ,wasnt the prettiest of games to watch both teams looked like the end of season couldnt come soon enough . Newquay controlled the game really and Cam Turner does what hes best of just commanded the midfield Newquay had young Sharp playing from the start and he didnt look out of place well done young man . Newquay went 1-0 up after a brilliant pass to Coen Briggs who finished brilliantly ,Truro youngsters played lovely football but never really looked like scoring and just had a few pot shots that Brodie Cole dealt with ,with ease . This Newquay team will be challenging for the league next season they just need a good old Centre Forward ,they have so many good youngsters coming through the club is in safe hands . Tom Moxham was given Mom he was good but i would of given it to Josh Evans he covered every blade of grass and didnt give the young Truro players a chance to be on the ball for long and my Mom for Truro goes to there captain Jamie EDLIN he had a fine game . The ref had a good game all the players behaved themselves ,i was looking forward to see Teddy Horton playing for Truro i was told he was a very good player but he wasnt there as far as i know . Newquay got the big game on Wednesday and who knows they may spring a shock result wish i was going but dont want to drive back in the dark so will follow the game on Twitter . Well done Newquay for a very good season but next season about time some silver wear was put in the cabinet been a long time . Well done to John Fabby and his fine young team they just need some old heads in the team to help them out . Ok thats that for another week next weekend Holsworthy and thats that then we get the pre season friendlies to look forward to i expect i will spend most of my time at Wadebridge watching there games hope Newquay get some decent friendlies how about Man UTD Legends match be a huge crowd like when Liverpool Legends came to town

  46. Torpoint AFC 3rds 4-2 Liskeard AFC Reserves Scorers: Clarke, J.White, Babb, Lewis Another night under lights at The Mill. Finally a bit of dry weather which unbelievably made the pitch a little bobbly!! Huge thank you to Lee and the Liskeard team for agreeing the fixture so late. The game started brightly for both sides who clearly wanted to get on the ball. The visitors were better of the sides early with Broadwater consistently dropping in and picking the ball up and moving his team around. We had the early chance when Clarke was put through 1v1, after a touch he looked to lift over Agar who read the situation well and stood tall. Liskeard opened the scoring when a long ball wasn't dealt with, as the ball dropped to T.Hansford he settled to lift over Westall from 20 yards. Our errors were soon compounded when Westall played to White under pressure, he could only hook the ball 15 yards directly into the path of Rob White who struck excellently first time to nestle home. Frustrating but as last week, we didn't feel like we were out of the game. A goal soon came after 35 when a corner from Warren was met by Clarke and Agar, who had the last touch... Clarke claimed, Agar didn't. Remainder of the half stayed pretty even and an enjoyable game to watch from the sidelines. We hit things hard after the break and within 3 minutes, Robbins picked up the ball and played to Clarke who took a touch before drilling across the box to an onrusing J.White. 2-2. Buoyed by the goal, this lifted the group and the additions of Babb and Walters, for his debut, caused constant problems with their pace and direct running. Babb soon got reward for his excellent start, another corner was headed to the 18 yard line where Babb struck on the volley to make it 3-2, 3 was soon 4 when another corner was lashed home by Lewis for his 2nd is less than a week. Chambers was soon on for his own debut and settled to the game well but the tireless Mills caused problems all evening and rightly picked up his man of the match. The only thing that was missing was a goal but it goes to show that the raw stats aren't everything. Another really impressive comeback from the group. Wouldn't want to make a habit of it but I'm sure with Stevo back on Saturday we'll start better... Always a pleasure to have Baz Bottrill as the man in the middle. It's nice to have a communicator and someone that can admit to a mistake when it happens. Apologies to Lee and the team for the food situation post game, not something we'd want at Torpoint but thanks to Lee for being so understanding. In their skipper they have a proper footballer who should be playing in the SWPL next season, hugely impressed.

    RESULT WEDNESDAY 17TH APRIL

Reds 0 FXSU 9 Reds started really well, but couldn't get the goal we deserved in the first 15/20 minutes. Students quality started to show up front and scored 3 goals in a 5 minute spell which set the tone...one of which the best free-kick I have ever seen from about 40 yards out. Onto Sunday with the short hop to Callington!

  48. Falmouth Town took another step towards a possible league title with a convincing win against Ilfracombe Town, avenging their defeat at the beginning of the season in the reverse fixture, in front of a modest crowd of 318. Maybe the Town faithful were saving themselves for the massive away game in 2 days time against title-rivals Helston Athletic. Falmouth gave new signing Andy Elcock his first start in place of Jack Webber, and also opted for Cam Hutchison in midfield in place of Jared Sims. Otherwise, the starting line-up remained unchanged. Falmouth got into the game early and it was after just two minutes that the first chance was created. Luke Barner was released down the right and drove into the area. However he was unable to pull the ball back to the oncoming Oscar Massey and instead passed it across the goal, the defender cleared the ball only to see it hit Massey’s shin and roll harmlessly out of play. Falmouth continued to dominate and after 14 minutes they forced a corner from the left. Oscar Massey delivered and found Bradley Leivers unopposed on the edge of the 6 yard box. He duly dispatched the chance past visiting keeper Olly Saunders and Falmouth were one up. A few minutes later and after typical pressure exerted on the Ilfracombe defence from Rubin Wilson, Barner ran on to a loose ball down the right and beat the keeper with his shot, only to see it hit the post and rebound to safety. There were no further goals in the half as Falmouth, although not threatened by Ilfracombe, were unable to create any chances of note with a few of the players not being quite on their game. The second half continued in much the same vein until 11 minutes in. Massey breaking down the left and delivering a great ball into the 6 yard box for his strike partner Wilson, but just as Wilson shaped to shoot, he lost his footing and the chance was gone. Four minutes later and Falmouth were able to add to their lead. Tom Annear was on corner duty this time on the right-hand side, and whipped a trademark effort to the edge of the 6-yard box, finding Cam Hutchison to add to his impressive tally this season with a glancing header. 17 minutes into the half, from another Annear corner, the ball fell at the feet of James Ward at the far post, who hit a powerful shot which just grazed the top of the cross bar. Falmouth were really in the ascendancy now and with the Helston game approaching, they had the luxury of being able to substitute some of their players. Hutchison and Wilson were the first to be replaced followed shortly by Andreas Calleja-Stayne, Luke Barner and Oscar Massey. However, this had little effect on the play as the Falmouth continued to dominate. A third goal was duly scored on 72 minutes when James Swan managed to get to the bye-line down the right and square the ball to Oscar Massey. He dispatched it past the keeper from just outside of the 6-yard box to keep up his goal-scoring record for Falmouth, since his switch from Barnstaple Town late last year. The final goal was scored by substitute Luke Brabyn in the 85th minute after some great approach play from Bradley Leivers and Jack Webber. The latter with a flick over the head of the visitors right-back followed by a pull-back to Brabyn who hit it first time past Saunders. So a comfortable victory for Falmouth, but much of the F-Troops attention was taken by the events at Mill Road where in-form Barnstaple Town were hosting Helston Athletic. Amidst great delight from the Town Fans, the news came through that Helston were trailing 2-0 at half-time. However, within 5 minutes of the restart it was 2-1 and minutes later Helston equalised, only for Barnstaple to regain the lead soon after. It remained at 3-2 until the 85th minute when Helston drew level again. Going into the game on Thursday evening at Kellaway Park, Falmouth lead Helston by 3 points but with an inferior goal difference and with Helston having a game in-hand. Nothing other than a Falmouth win will keep Falmouth’s title challenge in their own hands so it will be a massive game, which will have a major say on who will win the Toolstation Western League this season. Goal Scorers: Bradley Leivers 14’ Cam Hutchison 60’ Oscar Massey 72’ Luke Brabyn 80’ Line Ups: Falmouth Town: Morgan Coxhead, James Swan, James Ward, Tom Annear, Bradley Leivers, Luke Barner, Andreas Calleja-Stayne, Andrew Elcock, Cameron Hutchison, Oscar Massey, Rubin Wilson. 50. St day 3-0 Redruth well after a good point for Redruth on Saturday against mousehole, an absolute shambles with injuries and poor commitment from certain people left us with 10 players an hour shy of kick off.. 2nd team playing tomorrow so not keen to help out. In steps our lino to fulfill an 11, shoutout to the 11 who put in a shift and kept an unbeaten st day side to only 3-0, shocking game to watch for the neutral, but Atleast we went out and played and didn’t shy away or get humiliated.. credit to st day did what they had to do.
